If I won the Lottery I wouldn't want to blow the money on a bunch of expensive stuff such as mansions, private jets, exotic cars etc. I know it is easier said than done but would love to see if I could do it!
I was able to save a lot of money in 3 years. I landed a 3 year consulting gig paying over $100K a year. I reside in the mid-west where there is a lower cost of living. I lived with my Mother ( I paid her rent). During this time I also paid off my $15K student loans and $18K Jeep. You will buy more furniture to fill up the empty space, and more cars to fill up the garage. And the expenses only grow as the house ages. A mansion is a money pit. Your line of thinking is how lottery winners go broke. They don’t look at the long-term costs, overestimate how much money they truly have, and buy more house than they really need.

1st rule. Get yourself a trust/financial management team. Have the majority in an interest/dividend account for living off of. Live within the capital gains you get. 2nd rule. Relocate a residence that doesn't pay capital gains tax. Bahamas, Neveda, etc. Secondary residence is where ever you want to live. 3rd. Be comfortable being able to say no to friends and family.
I once won $50 on a scratch off. So I took that money to the casino & won at the casino $2650. That makes me the best since I improved my win by 53 times the winnings.
I love listening to these people's stories of how or what they did with the money they won. This is remarkable! It reminds me of the parable mentioned in Matthew 25 about the "Parable of the Talents." The three men were given, one with one talent, the second with two talents and the third with five talents. At the end, the master came home from this trip and called upon them to see what they did with the money. The one with one talent went and buried his and gave back to the master 1 talents, but the second and the third guys invested theirs and double the amount they had. The master congratulated the last two guys and took the one talent from the first guy and divided among that last two man. When I watched and listened to these people that they used part of their winning to help someone or invested to something that they're passioned about; it really touched me. I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.

Plus it just seems like he did it the right way. He waited to purchase his very nice home and has taken up his passion of downhill mountain biking which looks awesome and intimitdating. I would definitely invest about 10 million of my lottery winnings into my 4 fund portfolio (total stock, total international, total u.s bonds and total s&p 500).
I got to meet a millionaire lottery winner a few years ago going to a jazz fest in California. My friend introduced me to her cousin and his wife, which we went to his house and rode with to the Festival together. We hung out with them the whole time along with some other friends. At the end, we all when to dinner together, to my surprise he paid for everyone at the table of 8. Later, my friend told me about his winnings. The both of them were very beautiful people. He recently passed away from an illness that he had in his 70s. He lived a full blessed life.

Just a note UK Lottery winners don't pay taxes on winnings however the way the payouts are structured means you'll only get 100% of the winnings over a period of time ( 10-20 years ) however you can take a 80% lump sum if you want too which the majority of people do.

I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.

Cool stories. I'm always happy to see people use their money wisely. The world needs more investors. I've always thought if I ever hit it rich. I'd buy raw land and develop it with low income mini homes so everyone can afford them. Just takes a well, septic and a way to make your own electric. That way people don't need to worry about high energy bills. Maybe I'd do a grid tie in system so each property got a little money each month from the electric company. It would be a win win
Making it out at a young age is quite difficult. I started a side hustle at 17, saved up and made some good investments. l'm 28,live on my own and having a good life for myself. Big ups to you and everyone out there trying
