I wouldn't want that much scrutiny as I value my privacy, but it might be a good idea to consult a security firm about the best way to live anonymously and safely. I think the biggest problem for winners is they seem to have a hard time keeping quiet about their new wealth.
This story is EXACTLY why lotto winners should be allowed to remain anonymous. It's a travesty and danger that they are often required to be publicly named.
As hard as it would be to delay your claim to any massive lottery payout. You almost have to and always remain anonymous! It will help keep the vultures away!
In my country, people who are getting money, even if it is a much smaller sum than that, never tell their names, and the Lottery is obliged to keep them anonymous. Sure, some foolish people want to brag, but that will come to bite them in a form of all sorts of slightly immoral people who will do everything to grab some money out of those people.
the graham thorn kidnapping case comes to mind back in 1966 i think .the parents won the lottery and there child was kidnapped and held for ransom .the little boy was 8 years old but unfortunately the perpetrator murdered him ..since that time all winners can remain anonymous if they wish to protect their privacy .if i was her i would have changed my name and left the country

Yes, I agree, but no one can make a winner appear on TV. Lottery officials in many states may have the right to name winners publicly, but I can't imagine anyone has the right to force a winner to show their face on TV.
Get a new unlisted number, move to a guard gated community, hire a lawyer, don’t trust ANYONE and don’t pick up any phone calls from anyone unless you know them very well. And use the word NO or at least say I’ll think about it. Practice those phrases. I can’t imagine the stress that comes with this but that’s the best I got.
If you win the lottery, keep your mouth shut and do not accept your prize publicly. Don't tell anyone for a while and until you have all of your legal and financial planning worked out. Put your signed ticket in a safety deposit box. After a while, hire a tax attorney, an investment advisor and a CPA. Then, go quietly on your way. Don't do anything extravagant. Simply be cool, sane and quiet and it might work out.
I agree. However, get legal advice before signing the ticket as it might be possible to set up a trust or LLC to claim the money and you'd want to have the trust be the winner. One lady in Florida this past year won a lot of money and followed the lottery's advice to sign the ticket but later realized she'd be publicized and didn't want that. She wanted a trust she was setting up to receive the money in its name to preserve her anonymity. Lottery officials wouldn't allow the trust to receive the money since she'd signed her ticket. 😩
If I won I wouldn't tell a soul, I'd hire a Lawyer, probably get a Legal name change.......cut all my current ph#'s and Emails........and disappear for awhile.
@@scotmandel6699 You can mostly disappear before claiming your win by getting legal representation and financial advice and moving out of your home and neighborhood and changing phone numbers, etc. In other words, preparation is essential as is avoiding telling people and no, do not let anyone fool you into going on TV. Covid masks might be useful at lottery headquarters. Go straight to your financial institution and put money in your blind trust. Then leave town.
The lottery winners show why most people will always be more broke than others. The first thing they go blow loads of money on drop in value right away and gives no return.
NEVER GO PUBLIC !! SIGN THE TICKET, PUT IN A SAFE DEPOSIT BOX, GET A TAX LAWYER, ACCOUNTANT, FINANCIAL ADVISOR, SET UP A TRUST, BANK ACCOUNTS, REAL ESTATE AGENT. PRIORITIZE, DIVERSIFY, PROTECT.
Seeking professional advice isn’t always good either. Some of those professionals actually prey on lottery winners. You don’t need professionals to manage your money all you need is some brains and research skills to do it yourself.

Perhaps not. But the death threats, privacy Invasion and family and friends all looking for handouts surely hold some significance in her situation
Constant identity theft threats are pretty serious
The Family Tree turns into a Forrest every time. First thing you buy is a chain saw, a loud one.
Damn, I missed a little TX Lottery $38mil by 1 number but won $2500. Guess that's the closest I'll ever come
How long ago was it?
My mom was same, missed 44mil by 1 digit 1 number. 5000$ .. I've not played .. it sickens to be that close. 😊
You not suppose to stay in the same environment when you get that much money, move to rich neighborhoods where they understand that amounts of money. You can't possibly stay the same .
This video is nothing what it states.
Anytime anyone win the lottery it should never be televised or put on social media. Never.
It’s so sad she had to go through all this. I believe that winners shouldn’t have to show their face and give their full names, and in some states you don’t have to. It’s also sad that so many people were scammers, some of her family and friends turned on her, and some people fell for the scams and lost money. Thankfully her local police were supportive of her. I wish she had gotten her own security detail, but I guess that would’ve brought on more attention. Thankfully she moved and she still have some family and friends on her side. God bless her.
You can stay anonymous in some states
She could have established a trust, then have a trustee claim the prize in the name of the trust.
Before she claimed the prize, she should have hired an estate planning attorney.
Amazingly, Massachusetts is one of those anonymous states so she could have done exactly that.
They don't!!! She chose to show her face!!! California is the only State that doesn't allow anonymous claim
@@rockon8174 Not showing your face and anonymous claim are two different things. in her circumstance she had to reveal at least her name.
The first thing to do if you win the lottery, is call a lawyer that specializes in hiding lottery winnings in a blind trust. You never want your name getting out there.
Some states don't allow a winner to claim in a trust. Which is BS! Revealed identity puts that person at risk.
@@daphne1079 100% correct. I understand there are some legal cases pending that may allow people to remain anonymous, but as it stands today, many winner's names will be revealed, putting them at risk from scammers. And some people foolishly want to be on TV and become celebrities and famous because they're so excited. At the very least, winners should refuse to appear on TV.... and move [and change phone numbers, plus all addresses and social media accounts] before claiming their wins. At the least, they will be able obtain a new home through a trust they set up after winning, making it hard for scammers to locate them.
The winner should have the right to privacy. Giving out her information only put her in the life of danger.
This is a good reason why lottery winners should be able to remain anonymous in every state the lottery is held.
A shame that you cant stay anonimous like in europe.... its really ruining lives
The irony of spending all that money over the years gambling and then you finally are rich but then you realize that money doesn’t make you happy, it’s just a distraction.😂
a few winners have been murdered because they didnt want to share their winning with particular family members .in australia you can remain anonymous if you want too
@@melissasmess2773 yea money is just a distraction
If you win the lottery jackpot the first person you should call is an attorney. The money can be claimed through an anonymous Trust absolving you from public scrutiny.
💯
Well it's usually obvious you've come into money by your changing ways it's just a question of how much you've come into that you could probably keep a secret.
@@marklittler784 depends how modestly you live. Most genuinely wealthy people in the United States live very frugally and don't spend their money on lavish things. You'd never know they were wealthy by looking at them.
@@diamondstar1200so true. How come ppl leave Warren Buffett alone or Brad Pitt? And these millionaires or billionaires don't have these problems.
Which attorney is the question? One from out of town small town probably... preferably one that is 65+
Hardly a downward spiral!, seems she handled the situation well and kept her dignity.
ALWAYS stay HIDDEN,, Form a TRUST then a Blind trust to hold the original Trust,, 99% hidden
10 States strictly prohibit the winner the ability to collect as part of any type of trust or LLC. Public identity has to be made. The 10 states are...CA, ID, IA, KY, NM, NC, OR, SD, DC, WI.
@@bicd3244good then I live in VA.
If I won a lump sum of that amount, I would hire a financial advisor, claim anonymously, lay low for 4 months and then escape my current residence, put all my stuff in storage, slowly fade away from social media, give my boss a one-month notice because I like her, get a new phone with a new number, keep the old one so I can see who the fakes are 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are crazy I would be gone on the next thing smoking out of my residence
you know cell phones can be tracked so why would u keep the old soon as u go to new location can be tracked due to old location id dumped the phone before even getting anew
It should be a law in every state that the winner's names are NOT revealed by the state lottery commissions. That the winner is not exposed in any way. It's obvious that each big money winner's lives are in danger. If I would have won 758 million dollars, I would have kept it quiet for a while getting ready to move to another location. Then collect the money and keep my mouth shut! I demand that all the states keep their winners away from the rest of the world! And, all of you reading this know that I am correct! By clicking thumbs up will assure me that I am right! Good luck if any of you win the big lottery!
How would we know if the lottery is legit if we don't know who the winners are?
I agree
No, you're ABSOLUTELY right!! When you win money like that, you have to be SLICK about how you go about living your life!!!!!!!!!! Especially with people!!!!!!!!
@@desertfish6821 Yeah, that's what I'm saying, so that's kind of IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!
@@desertfish6821 Independent auditors could still investigate the winners legitimacy.
The average rich person wouldn't fall for these things. Why do they think a lottery winner is any different?
If I win 700 million I'm hiring full time security

@@deborahcurtis1385 that's ok with me

I wouldn't want that much scrutiny as I value my privacy, but it might be a good idea to consult a security firm about the best way to live anonymously and safely.
I think the biggest problem for winners is they seem to have a hard time keeping quiet about their new wealth.
This story is EXACTLY why lotto winners should be allowed to remain anonymous. It's a travesty and danger that they are often required to be publicly named.
I love how the winnings say 700mil, but in reality she took home less than half of that.
Duh she started off with 700 mil and after taxes is what she's left with ..
That's because she took lump sum. You get less. I would take in payments so I would get full amount.
Who cares she still rich asf

As hard as it would be to delay your claim to any massive lottery payout. You almost have to and always remain anonymous! It will help keep the vultures away!
This is why you should be able to claim a lottery prize anonymously.
When you have something that everyone wants it becomes incredibly difficult to Tell who your real friends are

If she squandered all that money on her own, that’s on her

I wish her all the best in her new found wealth and enjoy every bit of it in good spirit ❤
And that's good, but the U.S. does not SUBSCRIBE to those rules!!! Maybe one day, maybe NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Because in this country, seeing the names of the winners, MAKES IT LEGIT!!!!!!!!!!
@@kathyhellberg There are ALL TYPES of things or safeguards that you can do as a person individually and privately, that one can do to protect themselves against/from the VULTURES, who swarm around these people in the very beginning!!! @@honeybee8002 Seeing the names of the winners makes it legit? Sure, but who should, who MUST see the name of the winner? Few people that work in Lottery, and they are here obliged by law and documents to shut their mouths and don't say who is the winner. The whole of the USA has to see who is the winner? I doubt that.
So her rock bottom was moving into a house with a pool and hangin with her family? Bone-chilling. So glad I gave some precious time out of my life to watch this awe-inspiring cautionary tale.
The most important word to remember if you win the lottery is NO.
First rule: keep quiet. Then contact a good knowledgeable tax attorney. Remain quiet. If yours is a windfall of 💰 do good with it. Help those without food and shelter, anonymously.
Keep quiet.
Shhhh! You already said too much....
This is why you tell NO ONE! Not even the family. The only person that should know is her husband, her legal team, and her financial team. That's it!
One of the things you will never hear a sane person say: "This is too much money for me!"
I'm happy for her winning. ❤❤
Exposing lottery winners should be illegal.
most basic advice for lottery winners ?
1. hire bodyguards
2. hire financial experts
then boom problems would never be your burden anymore
Would be better if they didn't show the winners faces
@@chariseh9524 well it has laws in different states most states requires lottery winners to show their faces but some would allow them to hide their identity

Let me be the first to say Congratulations 🎊 👏👏👏
This is exactly why I haven’t cashed in my winning ticket yet. I still have some time, but need to set up LLC etc.
Better to set up a trust. Hire a financial team, lawyers, accountants.
In the US, there should be a law where the winner should remain anonymous. I
That way no one knows on TV who the person is
Yes, I agree, but no one can make a winner appear on TV.
Congrats to her winning, but I'm also sad for her.

@@rayray8137 collect you money and disappear. I always wanted to explore Hawii.

It's dangerous anywhere to win a jackpot..
I think you can set up a trust. Hire a legal and financial advisor. Keep the money in the trust. Pay yourself an allowance.
Let's put in on the ballot it would easily win
This is why it should be up to the winner to stay anonymous and your name should not go out to news media's or anyone.
