Great update!
Thanks so much, Stefan.
THANKS...LIKE AND SUBSCRIBED...FROM CARACAS VENEZUELA
Hello Caracas! Thanks for joining us, Napoleon.
I purchased Optics this past September. And I'd like to have Optics 2022. Is there any upgrade pricing available to me? This video is well done and clearly helpful in learning a somewhat complex product. Thanks.
If you purchased within the last year OR have a subscription, the update is free. Download and install Optics 2022 and your license will work.
Nice to hear the familiar tones of Mary Poplin narrating this!
Always true. We should feed all her old tutorials into an AI voice generating machine. I'll see if we can secure her digital rights. 😁
What amazing software
Thanks!
Waiting for 25% off and I'm sold!
Your wish has been granted. Spring sale is happening now!
@@BorisFXco And already purchased! Thank you Boris FX
I love Optics! But is there a way to only get the fx layer that it generates and not the fx layers baked on to the original image? I'd like to have things liek glows, lens flares, particles etc. on separate black layers in PS for better compositing.
We've got you! All of those things can do that. S_UltraGlow and turn Composite > Source Opacity to 0. Boom, glow only! S_Lensflare should be Combine > Flare Only. Boom, flare only! Particle Illusion will be Composite > Composite Style > Alpha + Apply Mode. Set Apply Mode to None. Boom, particles only!
We understand that Photoshop users like to do compositing in Photoshop, so we have those workflows available for you.
@@BorisFXco Ah I was looking in the wrong areas, thanks for that! I'll be doing a positive review video of the plugin very soon!
That's great. Please let us know when you do. We love hearing what people think about Optics.
@@BorisFXco will do thanks. Can I drag and rearrange filters? Or apply a filter to the filter result of the one below it? Also can the standalone export video files of animations for particles?
Lots of questions! Here we go. 1) Yes. Just drag them around in the filter list and you can change the stacking order. They apply from the bottom up. If you hover your cursor over any gray area, it will turn into a hand. This means you can drag and rearrange.
2) Yes. Filters stack, so the filters above will combine with the ones below. As I mentioned above, there are some ways to only see certain effects. This means that only the filters above will be visible.
3) Yes! Go into Particle Illusion from Optics and hit the Render button at the bottom right of the viewer. It will render a video right out from there.
When you add another layer and click on particle illusion, beginning at the 5:40 mark you can't see the red circle in the center of the effect that allows you to move the position of the effect but it then appears at the 5:44 mark. I followed along and that circle that allows you to position the effect never appears on my optics 2022. The only time it ever appears is if I start again from photoshop and then go to optics 2022 and select the effect in particle illusion without the mask. As soon as I mask, the option to move the effect can't be done via the red circle icon because it's not there but in your tutorial, it's there. It doesn't matter if I invert the mask or not, the red circle is no longer an option to move the effect. Is there something wrong in my options 2022?
In the top right hand corner of the viewer there is a button that looks like a crosshair. Click on that and you'll see the controls pop up for you. It's just to the left of the Histogram button. Another thing to remember, if you have the mask selected, you'll see the mask controls. If you select the main effect thumbnail you will be able to move the PI controls. All of these are contextual based on the effect you have active.
@@BorisFXco Thanks for that. It was driving me nuts
I've lost the fx plugin during the past week and I don't remember how to install it into Photoshop as a plugin. Is there a video to explain how I do this? Thank you
Easiest way is to uninstall and reinstall Optics. You don't have to deactivate. On the re-install, you should see the Photoshop option in the installation list.
@@BorisFXco Thank you very much.
You are amazing. Sorry i can't afford single software.
If you just want to use it for 14 days, we do have a free trial version available. And if you need it for any month after that, it's $9. If you just enjoy it for the free 14 days though, then I'll still count that as a win for us all.
@@BorisFXco thanku . Appreciate
How can I export these into my photoshop project without having them over a layer?
In the Particle Illusion effect parameters, Set Composite Style to Alpha+Apply Mode and Apply Mode to None. That will give you just the particles and an alpha channel, which you can use in your Photoshop project.
If the alpha isn't look 100% right for you, check out this quick tip : borisfx.com/videos/optics-quick-tip-photoshop-shift-fix-alpha-compositing/
Can you edit videos
Not in Optics, but most of the Optics filters are found either in the Sapphire or Continuum set of video plugins, which work in most popular video editors.
