Glock Upgrade: Micro RONI SBR/Carbine Conversion Kit - Desktop Review

In this video I go over a desktop review of the Micro Roni SBR conversion kit for the Glock 17. This kit also works with the Glock 22 and Glock 31. I will be taking this thing to the range here soon so be sure to check back for the range test on this carbine.

Originally I purchased the Roni G2 Pistol Carbine Conversion system and was not thrilled by this. So I sent it back at purchase the Micro Roni instead. Difference was night and day. The Roni G2 felt that it was flimsy for lack of a better word. The Micro Roni feels like a much more solid system. Great job CAA on the redesign.
To sum it up, I wanted to make my Glock 17 into a SBR and the Micro Roni allowed me to do just that.

Note: I did submit for and received my ATF SBR Tax Stamp for this firearm given that its barrel length is less than 16" and it values under a NFA classification. Please note that until you have received this stamp approved by the ATF, you should not place your pistol into the Micro Roni SBR conversion kit. I am not a lawyer so I would defer you to check with local and state laws to ensure you can own this weapon.

Glock is truly an OP pistol
So technically you could open carry your glock without a ccl in Indiana since it's considered a sbr because you're allowed to open carry a rifle without a license in Indiana lol

Since the Glock is such a "small part" of the complete unit, it could/should have been made for the G34, or even G17L, for better ballistics.

Thanks for watching. These won't run with an extended TB. You would need to file a Form 1 and get your tax stamp approved before putting Glock in device and that process goes thru NFA branch of ATF.

I feel like this would benefit most with 10mm and .45ACP glocks, because you get extra power without much more recoil.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm trying to learn more: why do this? What's the benefit of an sbr over a pistol (other than improved stability via having a stock to brace against your shoulder)? It LOOKS like a bunch plastic, like fairings or body kits for a car...they don't do much for performance. Educate me please?
The ONLY real benefit of an SBR over a pistol is that a SBR has a stock which gives you a more stable shooting platform as your body absorbs more recoil than your arms can. Secondary benefits include ease of mounting and using optics, and ability to use the foregrip to have a more stable platform for shooting.
On the other hand, a carbine conversion or a carbine with the same mag type as your pistol gives you the advantages of more power from the round (due to more powder being burnt before the bullet exits the barrel), also gains improved range and potentially improved accuracy from a longer barrel. SOME carbine conversion kits include ATF statement that while the frame is attached to the conversion kit it is a rifle, but when detached it is a pistol with no need for registration changes. Thus so long as the barrel of the conversion kit is not cut shorter than 16".

I dont like the friction lock/hold on the spare because any tactical expert may just pull the extra mag and use it against you which is not safe in a closed environment or any close quarters combat

but where? There is no room really, also no point in the slide because you can swap slides all day as long as barrel length isn't changing. I got a Fab stock fits the gen 3. Cool if you can ignore a slide snapping like 2 inches from your eyeballs.
Slide was done on top by front sight (Did this since slide has SN as does frame). Frame was done under trigger guard. One option is to find a place that does laser engraving and do this on the frame.
Bottom of trigger guard crossed my mind, as did the Glock Co spot on top sides. Glad to know it can be done. Thanks again for info.

What makes it a SBR? You haven’t changed the barrel length. You haven’t changed the frame. You haven’t modified the Glock in any way. What you have done is added an accessory to your Glock. Is it because this Micro Roni uses a shoulder brace verses an arm brace? Very curious because I’m looking a purchasing one shortly.

You register this as an SBR, yet you have the pistol brace rear end on it? Seems like you're selling yourself short if you don't get the actual stock. And technically it is not an SBR with that on there.

Once the handgun is put into the Roni conversion kit, and I have my SBR tax stamp, am I able to remove the handgun from the kit and carry it as a CCW or does it have to forever remain in the kit as an SBR?
Thanks for watching. My understanding is once you register the pistol as a Class III firearm it will forever be a Class III firearm and not something you'd want to carry. Looks like a normal Glock but registered as something completely differnet.

Does anyone know the reason why the hand gun has to be registered as a rifle just because it being put in carbine enclosure? Why can't the gun just be treated as a hand gun when it's removed from enclosure and a rifle when it's in it? And WY do you need permission to remove it from state? It wouldn't be much of a difference if a person purchased a carbine rifle . Is there a reason for this ?
NFA. Once pistol is in carbine and barrel length is less than 16" the firearm (Glock in this case) must have a Form 1 submitted for a SBR tax stamp.
Is there a reason one would mod their Glock over getting an actual SBR?
is it some kind of ATF rule? Or is it like just cheaper than getting an actual rifle?
Or is it a continuation of like Mauser C-96 pistol carbines?

It makes the weapon bulkier, less managable and slower to bring to bear without any significant increase in hitting power or range than the original weapon, seems superfluous and unecessary.
If you are looking for a SBR 9mm carbine this is a very efficient way to accomplish this. You have a reliable Glock base and end result an inexpensive 9mm carbine. Sure you can go the path of a Sig MPX or other like design but this might not be something that is affordable to all...this one could be.

The device makes the weapon more complex and bulkier without any increase in range or hitting power, in what situation would this setup be of any use?
There is another version that actually has a longer barrel that is fitted to the pistol, the Civilian Pistol Carbine Conversion by the same company that would be a better option as it would increse accuracy, range and hitting power, the Micro Roni seems to be a useless setup.
First, thanks again for watching. The design of the Micro Roni was to have a device that could be used in a CQB situation or protective detail. End of the day you have a Glock 17 with a shell creating a 4.5" 9mm Carbine. While the Micro Roni would make any pistol bulkier than without, this device does improve accuracy as I have had groupings on this at 25-50 yards that the pistol by itself did not. Yes, a 16" barrel will provide additional value but the aim of the Micro Roni was to create a CQB style weapon that would fall in same class (in regards to size) of the Scorpion EVO, Sig MPX or a KRISS Vector. Hope this answers your questions.
PTW, thanks for the answer but I think I will stick with my Browning 9mm Hi-Power and F90M as they are, or if I am required to do House clearing I will swap out the 508mm (20") barrel group of my F90M for the 360mm (14") CQB barrel group.

Because everyone wants a heavy slower to use handgun. Every 9mm or 45mm rifle I've shot was complete shit. theirs a reason he did add a clip of him shooting it.

+John Smith thanks for watching. Are you referring to getting pistol into RONI? If so there is a different model for each type of Glock Pistol (full size or compact). This one is for the Glock 17, 22 or 31 and there is another for Glock 19, 23, and 32. It's a tight fit and I am not sure of would accommodate a threaded barrel or not. Hope this answered your question.

R Dudley It actually allows your to fire more accurately. You have more area to grab and also by testing it in your shoulder, you’re able to deal with the recoil much better.

+Scotty Phipps thanks for watching. They make a RECON model of this. That has the hinged end cap and with a bit of fabrication you could make up a brace and not have to deal with NFA since would still be a pistol. Same principle of something like the Sig MPX pistol with Sig Brace.
Folding arm brace would be a sensible move.

Design of stock allows for shells to eject. CAA designed this well.

Thanks for watching. Yes, for this to be legal you need to file a Form 1 with the ATF to obtain a SBR Tax Stamp. This is needed under current NFA rules. Basically you have to give ATF $200.
Hey I did this to mine as well did you mark the receiver(handle)? and if so how?
Went to local place for engraving and did it on frame as well as slide (CYA).
With that glock being registered as a "rifle", are you still able to conceal carry the glock without the roni? What about driving with it loaded? Are there now restrictions?
Thanks for watching. Pistol is now registered as a Class 3 and I've been advised not to conceal carry this pistol. Since pistol now under NFA as a Class 3 there are restrictions that go with it. If something you are considering I would recommend getting a separate pistol.

It depends entirely on your state as each state has different laws. In many cases a carry permit is limited to pistols, and while the Glock started life as a pistol, once licensed as a SBR, it is a rifle and likely no longer qualifies.

Not on this design. There is another Micro Roni where the flash hider is wider and can accommodate (dependent on size/brand of suppressor)

Good review. What are your thoughts on adding a sound suppressor? Ive read that it won’t fir because of the Roni’s barrel shroud. Could you put a slightly longer barrel on it? Maybe 6” or so to give clearance for the suppressor?
Also, what is the overall length of the Micro Roni?
Thanks for watching. With this design I would be difficult to fit a suppressor. Away at the moment but I will double check if an easy modification can be done to accommodate so stay tuned for that. As for over all length...about 22” for the Glock 17 version.

Hey. Sorry for delay. Took a look and this version does not appear to accommodate a suppressor without any major modifications. There is one that comes with enhanced barrel shroud that looks like it would be more accommodating.
