@@DarkPanda1 Hey bud, I currently play Tarkov on optimized settings and get between 50 and 80 fps, depends on the map. Even when on 50 tho, the game is very smooth and I cant notice any difference. Gsync works very well with that. Then there is RDR2 with everything on High or above that and get around 80fps consistently. On war thunder I get 'infinite" fps but even a potato can run that game i guess. I also play DCS which is flight sim and kinda badly optimized. There with high settings on most things I get between 50 and 100+ fps, really depends on the map and whats rendered. I dont think you will be able to run the latest titles on max settings or anything like that. Higher resolutions like the one this laptop has as native means the gpu will struggle a bit compared to a 1080p screen. Having said that I wouldnt go back to 1080p no way. If you optimize your game settings I think you will be ok. I personally am very pleased with how the 4060 performs so far. P.S. If you do end up purchasing this laptop, make sure to undervolt the CPU. There is a couple of options you have to enable on the bios, which isnt a big deal and then you can use a program called XTU. You can find info online on how to do it, its real easy.The CPU by default is overclocked, draws a lot of power and heats up, while the GPU never goes above 80 C .
i just bought this laptop and noticed the same problem with cpu hitting 90-100C. i noticed that the cpu seems to remain stuck in turbo boost , i went to edit power plan - maximum processor state plugged in 99%. i ve tested apex legends, starfield, cs go and cs2 and the cpu is now at 65-70C max
Aside from the power plan, do you think the amd cpu itself is to blame. I’m about to buy this laptop soon and seeing your comment makes me wonder about getting the 5i intel version instead.

Can you help me, I got the same problem. Three wecks I got my Lenovo Legion 5i pro. In Valorant the temps are 90-96 celcius. What have you done to get better temps ?
@@imagine-007 Apparently 95 - 100 is normal for this generation processors. Also Valorant is CPU intensive game. So it is expected to be that hot. I contacted lenovo and couple of other specialists they assured it’s normal. When it’s crossing 105 then immediately contact the service center. But if it bothers you too much try setting maximum cpu utilization to 99%. Which will keep your temperature 65-75. But slight performance difference will be there but you can’t really notice it. The setting will be found in control panel -> hardware -> power options -> change plan settings-> advance power settings -> processor power management.

Picked it up for 1300 with the sale and student discount! I'm coming from an Asus g15. Miss the trackpad and Windows hello, but the legion is far superior in almost every other way.
It outperforms alot of the i7's and then the mobile performance is much better as well. But again it comes down to the manufacturers. Lenovo seems to be the best at optimizing their configurations
The Legion series has improved considerably over the past few years; reminds me of me of the hay-day of Alienware before Dell bought them out, but I still feel they tend to really get slow and sluggish a few years in without the periodic OS reinstall :/
I bought it for $891 certified refurbished 2 year warranty. For the price I can’t complain since its performance is still decent/good for most games in 2024.
i lliterally had to buy the speakers for the legion 7 pro and put them in my legion 5 pro (2023 7745hx 4070), the posts were in a different spot but i used a sonic knife to flush cut them, and epoxied the post in the new spot and put the legion 7 pro speakers in, it is night and day different, usable now.
Great job testing the Cpu (as usual). Pity about the botched paste job (which seems like the norm these days.. I thought Legion had Honeywell Ptm 7950, crazy how they can bungle that..). Good job shouting out @1:17:00 AATU (Amd Apu Tuning Utility) for undervolting. Would love to see a repaste and then testing between stock and with undervolt.
Thanks for this super detailed review! I was wondering, you said that the temps were bad during the Cinebench multicore test. You mentioned it would be a good idea to return it or repaste it. Was it bad because the temps reach 100 immediately? Or was it bad because the temps were uneven amongst cores? Why was it sad that throttling happened... isn't it supposed to happen at 100c (Tjmax)? i think it's safe to say. NO RTX at QHD or NO QHD with RTX ON (everything ultra) with an 8GB VRAM laptop video card on modern games. that's it. you want all the bells and whistles get the 4080 laptop. simple choice. NVIDIA and AMD knows this too, they're in the graphics business. or get a desktop.
Just got my beast Legion pro 5 amd 7 7745HX and an RTX4070. I also have a #5 core that goes straight up to 100c vs #0 81.6 , #1 91.7, #2 85.6, #3 97.9, #3 86.8, #5 100, #6 85.4 , #7 98.2.. Hi, after a few months how do you feel about your purchase? I'm planning to buy the same model as you and I wanted to know if the temperatures are a big problem. I have read that you can undervolt the CPU but I can't find much information about it.
I haven't tried undervolting it yet and from what I've heard it cannot be on laptop. As for my experience with it, it's manageable just make sure to buy a good cooling pad. I've been using it purely for gaming, the high temperature is also depends on the game you are playing. Overall I'm happy with it.
i repasted my cpu with NT-H1 and K5 pro, was WAY worse, i found out that they use ptm 7950, ordered that and upsiren ultra pro, and its WAY better than the NT-H1 and k5 pro, it is about what it was brand new maybe a little better. It still hits 100c almost immediately when doing cinebench r23, but never does when doing anything practical, not even close. Previously had a zephyrus g15 (ga503) and this cooling is FAR superior to that laptop. The legion 7 pro does have a huge vapor chamber and is supposed to be far better, however i wouldnt know from first hand knowledge

I just picked this laptop up from microcenter for 1300. I upgraded the ram to 32gb and saw the stuttering in cyberpunk greatly deminished or out right disappear meanwhile its using 15GB of ram. I would love to see a video where you test this out with the legion or another laptop with 16GB of ram and 8GB of vram
@@jjphresh7058 battery life is alright but nothing special, and no crazy temps around 85 on the CPU and 65 on the GPU when running timespy but I have not used it outside on a sunny day yet but the screen is good backlight bleed is minimal

@@ashkaflammer4720 for gaming, this laptop heats up easily & often. However, in counterstrike it still works fine even when the fans are going loud & heated up. Even with a cooling fan underneath it's still hot.
Recently received my unit which is also 7745HX and 4060 Legion 5 pro 2023. It also heats up to 100 degrees instantly during Cinebench test. Other 7745HX legion 5 pro reviews i've seen on RUclips such as Tech Guy Beau and couple other chinese reviews all runs the CPU hot at around 90+ degrees.. I don't think it's just your unit .. wonder what's the next step to take

It is constantly running at Max clock speed even though it might not be required while gaming. I have the Intel version with the same specs but it only gets hot for a few seconds when required then stabilizes around 75 degrees, no fps difference though.
The worst rgb lighting in well respected brands. Total mediocrity from lenovo, we get budget series laptops miles better. They would want you to upgrade Legion 7 series for that competent vibrant colors lol
Liquid metal is a negative, it eats away at most metals over time. Also you can't repaste a botched liquid metal job, which would suck if the computer would die past warranty. If not having a metal chassis means better specs, then I whole heartedly support it.
The TPD OF RTX 4070 IS 140w so why the GPU here use jus 100w in all games tested and fro the CPU temp 95 is so hot. I noticed that Lenovo legion Whit Intel CPU doesn't have this issue.
I am choosing between this one and the other one with RTX 3070 + Ryzen 7 5800H (2021). This laptop does not perform as I expected because there is 110-120W while the old 2021 version has 140W RTX 3070 (+ it's way colder). What would you recommend for the best gaming performance? @@beatdahustle4060 and 3070 have similar gaming performance. If you do cpu heavy tasks go for the this. If u want cooler + better battery life go for 5800h.

Подсветку можно выключить, а под ножки что-нибудь подложить или заказать у токаря повыше.. 🙂 Или просто взять топовый Сони с быстрой VA матрицей и продвинутым постпроцессингом. Т.к. олед тоже начнет напрягать, когда у вас эмблема первого канала со временем перестанет сходить с экрана.. 🙂
when you order you can build your own config, where you can choose for e.g the display as well, and 240hz 500nits is available for 30usd extra which is a no brainer in my opinion. But when doing a review why cant you be more accurate omg, bro you spending quite a big money just for reviewing and yet missing out on key details and than bragging about lenovo being cheap :D u.i: In Europe/UK 7945HX also available as an option :)

You have to set ALL of the settings (ie make a full profile for it to save the profile)

B&H has a pretty good deal on the 5i 13700hx/4060 right now with 32gb RAM and the 240hz, 500 nit screen for $1269 US.

I just picked this laptop up from microcenter for 1300. I upgraded the ram to 32gb and saw the stuttering in cyberpunk greatly deminished or out right disappear meanwhile its using 15GB of ram. I would love to see a video where you test this out with the legion or another laptop with 16GB of ram and 8GB of vram

@@jjphresh7058 battery life is alright but nothing special, and no crazy temps around 85 on the CPU and 65 on the GPU when running timespy but I have not used it outside on a sunny day yet but the screen is good backlight bleed is minimal

@@ashkaflammer4720 for gaming, this laptop heats up easily & often. However, in counterstrike it still works fine even when the fans are going loud & heated up. Even with a cooling fan underneath it's still hot.
Recently received my unit which is also 7745HX and 4060 Legion 5 pro 2023.
It also heats up to 100 degrees instantly during Cinebench test. Other 7745HX legion 5 pro reviews i've seen on RUclips such as Tech Guy Beau and couple other chinese reviews all runs the CPU hot at around 90+ degrees.. I don't think it's just your unit .. wonder what's the next step to take
Return it , get an Intel processor and make sure you don’t purchase an AMD CPU every again

@@duffel87 why u against amd just so i can understand? I use both CPUs intel on my desktop pc and amd on laptop for power efficiency I like both brands, Jarrod's laptop also intel had bad thermals on his review.
@@duffel87Funny, because that's the exact issue I've had with Intel CPUs...
It is constantly running at Max clock speed even though it might not be required while gaming. I have the Intel version with the same specs but it only gets hot for a few seconds when required then stabilizes around 75 degrees, no fps difference though.

The worst rgb lighting in well respected brands. Total mediocrity from lenovo, we get budget series laptops miles better. They would want you to upgrade Legion 7 series for that competent vibrant colors lol
They made the biggest mistake (they didn't use liquid metal and made the body plastic), which will greatly affect their market share.
Liquid metal is a negative, it eats away at most metals over time. Also you can't repaste a botched liquid metal job, which would suck if the computer would die past warranty. If not having a metal chassis means better specs, then I whole heartedly support it.
how much is the 3060,or 3070 one?
The TPD OF RTX 4070 IS 140w so why the GPU here use jus 100w in all games tested and fro the CPU temp 95 is so hot. I noticed that Lenovo legion Whit Intel CPU doesn't have this issue.

I am choosing between this one and the other one with RTX 3070 + Ryzen 7 5800H (2021). This laptop does not perform as I expected because there is 110-120W while the old 2021 version has 140W RTX 3070 (+ it's way colder). What would you recommend for the best gaming performance? Both have the same price in my region.
@@beatdahustle4060 and 3070 have similar gaming performance. If you do cpu heavy tasks go for the this. If u want cooler + better battery life go for 5800h.

Или просто взять топовый Сони с быстрой VA матрицей и продвинутым постпроцессингом. Т.к. олед тоже начнет напрягать, когда у вас эмблема первого канала со временем перестанет сходить с экрана.. 🙂

when you order you can build your own config, where you can choose for e.g the display as well, and 240hz 500nits is available for 30usd extra which is a no brainer in my opinion. But when doing a review why cant you be more accurate omg, bro you spending quite a big money just for reviewing and yet missing out on key details and than bragging about lenovo being cheap :D
