Most awaited video. Please also make video on keyboard and palm rest temperature with thermogun
I just subscribed! Beau, you had a very long day of hard work to conduct your evaluation and we appreciate your hard work! I like how you turned down the lights some at the end of day recap. Thanks! I think all the Performance Modes showing on the top right of laptop screens were all in the testing software setup, right? Can you please advise which Vantage setting you used when running the different video and gaming tests? ie Balanced, Performance, Extreme Mode.
For this video test were done with performance for “max performance” of note, a 4060/4070 will lose less performance than a 4090 when you go from performance to balanced.
The 4090 really doesn’t like low wattage
Awesome video, would be cool to see a comparison with the asus zephyrus G16 2024 4070 and the white legion 7i you have. it’s the same price $2000.
Hi, thanks for this video. I found legion 7i and legion pro 5i with almost same specs 7i with i9 and pro 5i with i7. Which I don’t mind as these are laptops. Which one to pick for good performance in games? Whats TDP for each laptop ? Please let me know what do you think.
I dont know if you know what game I'm talking about, but do you now if the 7i white gaming laptop could run microsoft flight sim 2020 on ultra settings with a reasonable fps like 40-60?
in my country i can only find the legion i want with a ryzen 7 7840HS paired with a 4060 ( i wanted to get the one with a 4070) , should i go for the one with 4060? is there a big difference betwen the two cards in terms of performance? The only laptop i found with a 4070 is an TUF F15 .
How's their battery/ power consumption comparison?
my favourite tech channel rn
Hi, thanks for this great video. Can you explain which one has the loudest clickpad when you press it. i will use it in silent environment and a loud clicking pad is annoying.
7i (slim) is the loudest by far
At last someone took the effort to make this type of video. Great Job(seems like a lot of effort recording the video). Keep it up😊😊
Thanks. Yeah these ones aren’t easy to make and remain somewhat concise
@@TechGuyBeau Hey! Seems like I can't get any of these laptops in here(SriLanka), what can I do about that
Nice rundown! Have you experimented with undervolting the legion 7i CPU?
Not yet. I have a 5i (non pro) I might mess with a bit
Another amazing video, thank you for the great work mate!
Here in India, currently lenovo legion slim 5 gen 8 is 1345 usd, which on sale can come down to 1200 usd. And the customized loq gen 9 with 1440 screen 4060 is 1030 usd. (Both without adp, additional 36$ for adp) Which one would you recommend?
Can you compare the new slim 5 and 7i? The specs are very similar but with a large price difference
Thanks for your indepth Videos! Especially this one helped a lot. Just ordered the 7i.. Wish you all the best!
Good job man; thanks for all your time and effort! ❤
Great Video Man! Keep bringing us these types of videos.
I feel if Lenovo can somehow make a 14inch Lenovo 7/7i it’ll give other OEMs a run for their money since now ASUS, HP and MSI have now stepped up their game.
Could you please review the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 5 and compare it with the Lenovo Legion series as well, like last time?
>:)
I have this laptop in my office right now
Thanks 🙏.
I decided to go with 7i-slim (mostly for the looks). We will see, still waiting for it to arrive.
camera tricks- for showing difference in height, you could lay a pencil or ruler across the taller one and show the gap. OR if you have decent dexterity, you could double-wield and lay the pencil across using the ruler to get the exact measure
Kudos to your effort, everb the minute details, I am Geeting My Legion pro 5i i9 4070 modelz super excited
Thank You Beau, where's the 5 slim tho?
Thanks for such a detailed review, quite literally the only review that did a side by side comparison between %100 sRGB and %100 DCI-P3 laptop screen
A question though, were all the 3 models at max brightness during the display color comparison? and if so then did the Legion 7i looked more bright to your eyes as well? compared to the same 500 nits panel on Legion pro 7i, or it's just because of the camera angel?
Yes they were all at max brightness. It’s likely due to camera nonsense as you say. It can be very challenging to film a screen, let alone 3.
The 100% dcip3 is by far the best looking, and is equivalently bright to the 100% srgb 500nit
go for DCI-P3 it's much nicer
Great comparison. Just be a bit more louder in voice
Why on earth is the less expensive, less powerful, non "flag-ship" 7i laptop MORE premium feeling with a BETTER build (all metal, glass track pad, etc.) than the highest priced most powerful 7i Pro?! I do not understand these companies. Say I want the MOST powerful option & the MOST premium build - I can't have that....? I seriously have to choose between those 2 things? God almighty. Ok rant over I guess.
the 9i is the only way to get the premium-ness of the 7i with max power. But also it’s really expensive 😅
Quick question I just got mine is a 5i gen 9(2024) and I notice that some rgb leds don’t display the exact color that I select for example with the light blue some leds looks a bit greener. Also I notice that the laptop feel more hot between de Copilot key and the < key considering that I have the leds to the level 2 of brightness. Idk if all of this is normal.
Great video. What makes the 7i to be based on the 2023 slim? It has new housing, new cooling, port locations different, etc. Maybe size same. I would agree it replaced the 7i slim in the lineup. I had a white laptop years ago (gloss screen), and it was very annoying to constantly see the keyboard reflection on the screen. I did not see any reflection, in the 7i on the video. Appreciate your comments.
7i slim = 7i. Same laptop just updated for the new gen
Difference are: dual sodimm this year. Some ports moved to the sides from the back. Otherwise it’s the same laptop
very detail, thank you very much
I recently ordered my Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 9 Intel (16") with RTX™ 4090, and I'm very impressed with its performance so far.
However, I've noticed an issue with the keyboard temperature:
While using the laptop for work (coding and design) and gaming ("Lies of P", "Hellblade"), the keyboard become warm, and during gaming Specifically, the area near the power button and the lower section before the touchpad gets particularly hot . As a result, I've had to use a controller instead of the keyboard.
I tried to change Thermal Mode but wasn't useful
Is this normal for this model, or could my laptop be defective? Should I consider returning it?
Thank you for the reviews. It helped me to decide which one to buy.
its normal to get warm, try tilting the back up a bit by putting something under the laptop( without blocking the air vents) or get a stand/coolingpad.
undervolting cpu is also a good thing to do to reduce temps.
@mugetsu9393 I'm already using the coolingpad, but I'm going to try undervolting. Thank you for your suggestion.
How is it working now? Did you solve the heating issue on this?
I've heard from other channels that Legion 7i is always warm even in silent mods while light surfing / RUclips, is that true?
And is there any way maybe to undervolt it to enhance battery power / temperature, is it really possible to make it 36-37 for light use?
ive recently just got my legion 7i gen 9,
i do notice that the laptop when just surfing/watching high quality youtube videos on google chrome, the fans will start to get louder and the finger print scanner/power button area will get q hot. (not hot enough where i have to take my finger off of it instantly but it feels pretty hot, maybe because its a metal material rather than plastic)
and for battery temps, with no apps open just idling it will sit ard 30-32 degrees.
If i play diablo 4 or any other games it gets to 37-38 (max so far) degrees after like 30 mins of use onwards. But starting off itll be around 35-36 degrees
Battery life i have not rly tested but unplugged it went from 100 to 70 within like 30-40 mins which im guessing roughly the battery life wld be 2 hrs ish.
(watched youtube)
Without a blanket over ur legs to put your laptop on, i do feel like it’s too hot to use ur laptop directly on your skin due to the heat.
But other than that, i think the laptop is the perfect laptop to get for anyth be it work wise, gaming, designing ( keep in mind u can reduce the refresh rate, quality from 3.2k to 1600p, all these factors to improve battery life/heat at the cost for performance )
and personally i feel that the laptop does an amazing job to control its temperature very well as i did not experience any throttling fps lag issues so far yet. ( maybe in the future? will update )
@@JasonSetiawan-rj8lj thank very much my friend this is very helpful, I am always working from my lap, on my 14 m1 max macbook pro, so I think that beauty is not for so, but it looks so great, and great machine overall... I will stick more to something more cool, light and battery efficient
I noticed when comparing the thickness of my Legion Slim 7 gen 8 to a Legion pro 7 that it does not look like the slim is much thinner because it has very tall feet. If you flip them around you can see a dramatic thickness difference.
So even though the 7 PRO is named 7 PRO but it is less premium compared to the 7 slim??? What the hell Lenovo
-no fingerprint scanner
-plastic keyboard
-no sd card slot
Also vapor chamber is only for the 4080 and 4090 version :/
Do you think Lenovo will launch AMD based Slim i7 or a newer Slim 5 14.5 this year?
I believe they will wait for the all new AMD chips to drop in the late summer or fall
Does the i9 throttle? I wondered if you’d say the i7 14700HK is better for the 7i?
Yes, badly
Thanks I hope you can get your hands on the 9i pro 2024 and compare it to 7i pro 2024
I have a 2023 9i pro, which is identical to 2024. I have a review of it coming too
One of the best reviews of the Legion line. I was considering the Pro 5i, but I think I will spend a little more money and get the Pro 7i, i9, RTX 4080.
Should be good yeah
I just returned a legion 5 pro 2023 because of backlight bleed. Maybe in your future videos you might consider testing back light bleed in total darkness? To check the quality of the panel?
I actually do, you might have a defect. Panel to panel variance is also a thing that makes bleed testing tough to represent a whole stock.
If it’s bothering you exchange.
@@TechGuyBeau i got it thanks :)
Beau i have a mostly dark setup, but given how every reviewer in the world is going on about how good the white looks I think its an opportunity missed if I dont get the Legion 7i in white, my question is, will the white laptop look out of place and gamery in professional settings in your opinion? like work or meetings
It definitely doesn’t have a gamer vibe. It does stand out, but in a clean way
@@TechGuyBeau If you see this I have a further question, will you be reviewing the ASUS G16 2024? I want to know if the $1K+ for a 4080 version with its super thin chassis and OLED screen is worth it over the Legion 7i or Yoga pro 9i
My legion (slim) 7 with the 3.2k screen is a BEAST. I tried everything and it runs amazingly smooth, and from a person who came from 60hz, the 165hz is more than enough. And if you want to, you can downscale to 1600p without a big noticeable loss. I was scared of this but it doesn't seem to be an issue at all. Especially when you've had a 1080p before this one :)) if you want the premium quality but still good performance, go for the 7. I've seen the 5 pro in person, but the 7 is something else. I can't recommend it more!
Where did you get the 3.2k screen? Was it white? I can't seem to find it on the website.
@@alexkincaid5617 now available from Lenovo website
You have to build your own to get the white @@alexkincaid5617
Great Comparision
I got the Legion Pro 5i with i9 14900Hx and RTX 4070 with 32Gb memory/ram and 2TB SSD, with the 240Hz 500nit 100%DCPI-3 for 2100$ is it a good decision or a bad one ? Mind you I'm not a fully dedicated gamer and wanted it for programming more than gaming, gaming was like a side thing in free time, or else I'd definitely get the Pro 7i
Get the legion 7i, and go for the 4070 and dont get 4070 on 7i pro because 4070 is nowhere near as powerful as 4080 and 4090, but if you wanna go for 4080 7i for 2200 or somwhere around that on bnhphoto or lenovo themselves ask the lenovo sales rep for a discount.
Hey, fantastic comparison video! I have the Legion 7i and while on paper it is great, but it performs very poorly in battery mode, even when web browsing I encounter stuttering and high latency to every input... It might have something to do with it not finding any updates for drivers ect. in vantage. Lenovo support is zero help. Perhaps ppl should consider this before buying. Maybe you have an idea on how to fix this ? : )
That’s typically how Intel performs unfortunately. They are great on power but not great on battery like AMD
@@TechGuyBeau OK, maybe I just have to accept that, but I think it can't be right that a 2.5 k laptop is incapable of webbrowsing smoothly in battery mode
Is it safe to say that the best core i7 with RTX 4060 laptop currently in the market js Legion 5i Pro?
Best value and raw performance probably
Literally the video I wanted to see. I have both the white 7i 4070 and the 7 pro 4090 on order. Will try them out and decide which one to keep! Ty for this video!
how about you go to a store and test them out there instead of ordering two products and returning it. What good does that do other than waste?
@@neruul Allows them to test it under their own circumstances and explore with their own freedom and time.
For example, my laptop's wifi card worked fine in US where I bought it, but when I moved to where I am, it had some issues. Which I fixed over months of tweaking settings.
But it's still an example of what could go wrong.
Many things you experience under your own testing on your own time.
@@FluffScripts I get that, the fact that you can buy something and return it, is a modern blessing. But ordering multiple items and returning almost all but one is misuse and waste.
Still eagerly waiting for the g14 review 👀👀
I cant wait much longer 🙈
Haha, yeah it’s the next laptop review coming down the pipeline don’t worry
I just bought 7i gen 9 from the official website, hopefully it could be delivered with no issues!
I just got mine. Amazing device, Amazing software and design. In love with it
What about its weight and battery life
@@bla2coolkid what about battery life and temperature is it always warm?
Hiiii, today i got my 7i and i love it. And... yes its warm, not too much but the problem is the battery life, about 3hrs in 165hz and 3k resolution and 4 hrs in 60hz@@Promikes
@@dipaniiii1117 :(
Legion 7i and Legion 7i Pro... if they would make the outside of the 7i Pro like 7i White... that would be perfect (at the moment) what would be possible.
I guess marketing and diversity is the reason why they dont combine the best of both into 1.
So i hope for the Legion 7 Pro Gen 9, gets 100% alu, Ryzen 16core, 64gb ram, rtx 5080/5090. Preferable original aluminium color or white. No aluminium results in no buy.
"Once you accept the worse part of a laptop, you accept everything and never get what you want."
Very good video🤘
I have one question for lenovo : why you don’t have thunderbolt good speakers and also fingerprint scanner 😢
Look at the Legion 7i it has all
Finally, wait is over....
editing this video took so long. i had waaaay too much footage to go through and throw out most 😅
Worthy ! @@TechGuyBeau
What's the difference between the i7 and i9 on the Legion 7i in terms of performance and is it worth it?
Nope. Get the i7
Please compare the blacks and color level of the 3.2k display of the legion 7i with a good oled display laptop
I have a Thinkbook 16p I’m reviewing with that screen. And sure I can compare to an OLED. Keep an eye out for my “Thinkbook 16p 2024” video when it drops
How long before it's live ?
You should do some asmr videos. Same tech content, just whispering. You have a relaxing voice already. Hope this isn’t too weird
bruh
When the review of the new Thinkpad t14 gen 5
I’m between a 7i and 5i pro, both share almost the same specs; Intel core i9, windows 11, RTX 4070 8GB, 32GB RAM, WQXGA display.
The 5i pro has 2 TB instead of 1 7i that has just one; 5i pro $1835 US vs $1746 7i.
I’m still wondering which one should I buy
I would personally pick the legion 7i as the extra performance of the CPU of the legion Pro 5i(due it being thicker) is not worth having over the better build quality of the legion 7i (Keep in mind that the 7i does not have ethernet port and the extra two usb that the pro 5i has)
@@buhariauwalu3670I know!!!
I just want to know how much is that extra cpu performance… if the difference isn’t significant, I’ll pick the 7i even though it has 1tb, if needed more then I’ll go for 2 tb portable ssd
@@moracontrerassaulemiliano6284 expect a 10% to 15% difference in CPU performance when comparing benchmark scores
I'm in the same dilemma. What is the update? What did you end up buying?
Slim 5 and normal 5?
GOAT of legion reviewer
Does the 7i run hot? I'm torn between the 7i and the G16, but I heard that the 7i gets much hotter?
The 7i is much cooler than the g16. If the g16 runs “cooler” it’s because it has massively nerfed performance
Legions have best in class cooling
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks man!
@@TechGuyBeau I have one more question, and I would be very happy if you can help me.
Tomorrow, I am buying either the Lenovo Yoga 9i or the Lenovo legion 7i. Both cost the same in my country. What do you think?
Thanks man really appreciated!
So the white laptop have the metallic bottom lid?
Are you sure???
The Legion 7i are all metal
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks!
My only confusion is the CPU processors. Surely the i9 offers a better performance than i7 no matter what laptop its in?
No, i9 will often run too hot and throttle anyways. You don’t always want the most powerful cpu, they are extremely hot. As you can see the “weaker” i7 is beating the “more powerful” i9 due to heat and power profiles alone.
Which is better in ur opinion legion pro 5i or legion 7i
Obviously 7i pro is a upgrade because have a more powerful Gpu even if the Cpu is the same. If u have the money fo for it, but if u can pay to much a 5i pro 13900hx rtx 4070 for 1329 usd is a good option
What's the battery life for 7i?
intel 14th Gen aren’t good for battery overall. It at least it has a big battery. If you need to have good battery go AMD
what should I choose between 16p and 3.2k? I like to play games more as same as watching movies, 3d modelling , .....(I'm a student)
1600p and 3.2? I’d definitely go 3.2k for general pro use. It’s more demanding for gaming but you can use a bit more dlss
@@TechGuyBeau what if I pull down to 1600p from 3.2k while only on gaming? is it ok to buy 3.2k with 4060?
just use 3.2k andb add more dlss. It will look better than non integer scaling

Legion models are notorious for stuttering during games. Not a single mention of it?
No they aren’t, I have tested many legions and don’t encounter this issue. You might be alluding to nvidia issues.
Ty. But i came for the noise level comparison. Which is not here 😢😮
Oh sorry, here is the data:
7i pro - 56 dB in performance
7i Slim - 53 dB in performance
5i Pro - 51 dB in performance
In terms of the pitch non of them area really annoying at all, although the 7i slim is slightly pitchier than the thicker models. I think the modified fan design has improved turbulence and reduced noise
