      Thanks 🙏 Yeah, to date I’ve bought every gaming laptop I’ve ever covered, and about 95% of all laptops overall for review.
      I guess it’s a business investment, and it really does help me do things my own way. I don’t mind review units whatsoever but I think there needs to be a balance. Otherwise how can someone understand the importance of value? If everything was just sent to me and I was rolling in cash then I don’t think I’d appreciate the importance of good pricing

    Hi! I instantly like the video and the capabilities of this laptop love the performance and the display, i managed to get the 500nits but there has to be something wrong with my unit because set on quiet with best power saving mode and only on igpu 60 hz and full brightness i get around 2 hours without doing nothing and memory gets around 35-40 ussage, pawer drown 20-25 watt but that's weird in itself and battery saver active or not does absolutely nothing, like it doesn't have any battery saving capabilities

    Quick question. How to and with what we could add additional SSD on a p16s Gen2 ? Can we use the WWAN slot for this? Also can this board take a 5G fibocom module? What to choose. PCIe or NVMe cards for the WWAN slot?

    Thanks for the thorough breakdown I picked up this machine after watching your review! I ran cinebench and one of my cores is staying at 100 degrees C for the duration of the test. In regular use this core is usually between 10 - 20 degrees hotter than other cores. I understand it will get hot because of the stress test but I wonder if the thermal paste hasn't been done well on my unit. I used performance mode using cinebench and the fans kick up high. I watched your footage again and couldn't tell when you ran cinebench, did any of your cores stay on 100C for the period of the test? or just spike at the start ? I look forward to hearing from you, my exchange period is coming up and I am curious about your thoughts if this is normal behaviour for this model.

    Hello, very good review.
    I just bought slim 5 14" 32gb RAM, and its nice, however I do not see much of a difference between quiet and performance mode other than unacceptable fan noise in performace mode:) Actually I do not understand why in some game GPU is not pushed higher but staying around 40W in quiet mode, and after change to performace mode around 90W I have pretty same FPS - yeah that is strange.
    Anyway I do really like 14" form factor, because its just lighter and smaller, but I am thinking about slim 5 16" with rtx4070, I know there is not much of a difference at least on paper on YT test, just wanted to ask for Your opinion here.
    cheers

  • @robynrox
    @robynrox 2 месяца назад +4

    I have the 2023 version of the same with the RTX 4070 (weirdly it was the same price as the RTX 4060 when I bought it) and the 7840 processor. It has a black keyboard and a black surround that matches it in my case - might be a UK thing, not sure. I love the silent mode - it isn't silent and I do think quiet mode would be a better description, but it's good enough, and I really don't like fan noise - and it is excellent for gaming and worth the small sacrifice in FPS to use that silent mode. I'd call it mid-range rather than budget - it's a lot more expensive (almost double) than the Acer Nitro 5 I bought a couple of years ago which had an RTX 3070 inside it and an Intel chip - and I'm more than happy with it, both for gaming and for development work; I've also done a little video production with it and that went fine as well.

    You're videos are so informative, really helping me choose a laptop, it's fantastic! I'm torn between this Legion 5 Slim Gen 9 16" with a 240Hz screen, or the Legion 5 Slim Gen 8 14" OLED. I really like the idea of gaming on those quieter modes and performance configuring you showed in this video, is the gen 8 14" just as capable with this?
    I'm worried the gen 8 14" is inferior, but I'm being a sucker for the OLED 😂. And maybe the 240Hz screen is sufficient. Which would you go for, gen 9 16" or gen 8 14"?

    How does this compare to the the Yoga Pro 9i? For gaming (Mainly plugged into a 34 inch 1440p monitor) and as a daily work computer for Software developer. I’m really on the fence on what to get. I’ve been looking at G14/16 2024 models as I liked their new design but they seem a bit pricey for what you get. The G14 4070-model and the Yoga Pro 9i is about 3k usd in Sweden. • @mihirojha4475

      Legions are full fledged gaming laptops and have some of the best cooling systems you get on laptops. So a Legion should outperform the Yoga, as Yoga is meant to be a workstation laptop and is considerably lighter than this one. That's the thing with gaming laptops, most of the time you trade weight for cooling and therefore performance.... it's why Legion 7s are so heavy. Pick your poison:
      1. Yoga I believe has an OLED display, which is excellent for multimedia and gaming but if you're gonna work on it for long hours, it will be prone to burn in.
      2. Yoga will also probably have better speakers and a full metal build.
      3. Legion will have the better cooling and performance.
      Depending on what your needs are, pick any one.

      I’m in the USA. Bro I’ve been looking at laptops for WEEKS! I don’t have a pc yet but plan to build when cyber Monday comes around. After all my research in looking for an affordable $1300 range gaming laptop that also has decent battery life for me to be able to use in college I keep coming back to Lenovo slims. I’ve been stuck between this and the legion 5 slim OLED. The oled not having upgradable ram killed it for me but after I saw it apparently has flickering in hesitating to buy it now. It’s driving me insane that this model doesn’t have really any videos on RUclips talking about it except for you and 1 other channel I can find. This is currently on sale with the 350nit screen and 16gb ram for $1300 but the OLED 14 is going for $1250. I told I keep waiting I’m afraid the sale on this model will be gone. I’ve never had my own laptop before and I can’t understand the difference between a 500 nit and 350nit screen but honestly that’s what has been holding me back on this model lol. If you were to give your honest opinion on what I should buy with the Slim 5 OLED 14” and the Slim 5 16” gen 9 which would you pick for gaming, school work with priority’s of Heat, screen quality and especially battery life as your biggest concerns?

    Okay so sorry for pestering you with questions again and again lol, but can you check one thing for me? Coz last year no RTX 4050, 4060 or 4070 laptop reached the advertised 140W TGP, even the ones advertised with it. They all maxed out around 100W or so.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  2 месяца назад +1

      The 4070 CAN push those watts, but remember wattage sharing is between cpu and GPU. So in gaming it won’t get to 140
      Furthermore, there is quite literally no reason to push a 4070 to 140 watts. Once you hit 100 watts, adding more provides to benefits. I highly recommend not cross loading over 100/110 watts on the GPU as it’s putting watts in for no reason.
