      It is NVIDIAs price politics. They push you to buy the more expensive options. I have an older Legion 5 with the AMD 4600h and RTX 2060 refresh (115W not 90W). And the 4060 was not an option for a new laptop. The 25% performance difference is just sad (I am not a big fan of DLSS or FG, just looks ugly no matter what anybody says). It may make sense to buy the 4070 with the around 50% performance bump. But the price is not there and the VRAM is just too small for 1440p or higher. Too expensive in comparison with the 4060. Than there is the 4080, which is literally 75% faster than the 4060 and around 43% faster than the 4070. And the 4080 is on average 8% slower than the 4090. So the obvious push by NVIDIA in the higher mid or high tier, is the 4080. If you buy a laptop for work and gaming, and buy one every 4-5 years, the investment makes sense. If you buy only to play games, it makes no sense...if you don´t ooze money. Laptops got expensive in the last two years. And the performance gap between mid and higher tier is big performance and price wise. I bought the Legion 950€ back in 2021 which was a steal. Bought the G16 with the i9 13980HX and 4080 a week ago for 2459€. Expensive, but it is a beast for my work, no need for a desktop. And rips thru games like butter without DLSS and FG. Maybe it is better to wait for the next gen Intel, AMD or NVIDIA offerings. But I don´t think NVIDIA will change it´s price politics, if they are not pushed to the wall by competition on the market.

    Thank you for mentioning that the speakers are bad. They have so little base but they are really loud. The best base I've heard so far is from Asus laptops, I've heard base from the Asus TUF series and they are very good and the TUF series are the cheaper laptops from Asus. Lenovo should really put high quality speakers with good base in their PRO series laptops. The Harman Kardon speakers in the PRO 7 are very good tho, better than what I've heard from Asus TUF series, kinda sad they didn't put Harman Kardon speakers in the PRO 5 series :(

      The 14 inch Transcend from HP has a lower watt GPU so 16 inches Legion pro 5i has 140w power consumption for games to perform much better, but the transcend has an OLED pannel if that's something you're into you can go for it, as a programmer i wanted 32GB ram so I decided to go with Legion pro 5i and just a bigger 240 Hz screen overall good for gaming whilst being able to look at my code without squinting my eyes.

I am loving using the Quest 3 for Immersed and am looking forward to the day I actually get a play though of Cyberpunk 2077 using a VR mod - but there are so many games these days pushing the boundaries for just the flat screen, let alone the overhead for VR mod gaming. I am hoping the frame generation of the 4000 series will help on the mod side even if it does not have support for regular PCVR games, but the best of those were created for previous generation hardware anyways

      If I were to ask what is the most demanding PCVR experience you play? I used to run into thermal throttling issues on a laptop running Elite Dangerous, although these days I am really looking at the modded titles - and I am especially looking forward to a play of Cyberpunk 2077 (mind you, more than playing the game is just exploring Night City in VR)

      I have got also a rtx 4070 and it draws 136ish watts in Cyberpunk on 1200p with ray tracing ultra, no dlss and no frame generation on. So in very gpu-bounded scenarios it can boost up to nearly 140 watts. Asus rog strix g16 with i7 13650hx here. • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  3 месяца назад +7

      I talk about this in the full livestream, but I will try to answer in more detail here. Typically, a 4070 laptop won't pull the full 140W. To encourage more GPU wattage, you need a GPU bound scenario where the GPU is being used 100% (no cpu/memory bottlenecking). Also, you likely won't see much additional performance beyond the 110-115W range. To encourage more performance and wattage utilization, I'd recommend running the laptop in the max performance fan profiles with highest possible power limits being raised. Then you also want to add a GPU overclock of 150-250 core / 200-400 memory. With the additional clockspeed, it might pull slightly higher wattage.
      The reason you don't really need to go beyond 115W is that the GPU just doesn't have that many cuda cores and typically reaching near peak performance at 115W. Adding additional power does not add much additional performance. But it will add more power if you also overclock it so the additional wattage can contribute to something meaningful, rather than just being meaningless heat.
      That said, you likely can run the overclock even at 115W and just be more power efficient with high performance. This will vary by silicon lottery though, as some will not be as stable with their power efficiency.

    hyee, i like to games but have a limited budget🤣 , and i cant decide between rog strix g16 i9 14900HX 4060 and legion pro 5i i9 14900HX 4070, rog using 1920 x 1200 and legion using 2560 x 1600, but i see a lot of comment on review videos saying that 4070 cant handle well 2560 x1200 screen? so what do u think?
    sorry for my bad english🥲

      Both are great. I like legion a tad bit more.

      You could always just get the Legion, and downscale the resolution from 2560 x 1200 to 1980 x 1200 for certain games or globally in display settings

    DDR5 4800 is just worst. I wish LPCAMM must become standard.

      LPCAMM2 has its own issues. From what I have heard is that if you buy a 16GB version, you cannot add another 16GB; you have to buy a 32GB module which screws in to replace the 16GB module. That defeats the purpose of upgradeable RAM. With RAM now being one of the least likely components to break before 10 years, you do not have to worry about RAM breaking. So soldered RAM is the way forward; Intel, Apple and even AMD understand this now. LPCAMM will have faster RAM than the current non-soldered RAM but will likely trail behind the much cheaper soldered. Maybe LPCAMM will be for high-end laptops and desktops? Too expensive for no real advantage so I am not sure we will see these in many laptops in the medium term.
