Using a slab technique and throwing is not cheating. It's being creative to make a piece efficiently and also takes additional skill to combine hand building and throwing. Beautiful plate.
Thanks Michele. I had a small part in a bigger picture- it's the viewers who have stepped up. I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to have supported a fellow potter and to have inspired people to give just a little to a like minded person ❤️
You have GOT to show us a photograph of Leslie's totem! Please, please, please!! Or as my children would say, please, thank you, we love you! They could always get their way with that one.
I most certainly will post a picture when Lesley's totem is finished. My hubby and I usually help her to put them together so may take my camera and show it I situation. Thanks for begging so nicely 😆😆
I love your kiln openings! You have such nice things to say about other's work! Your positivity is so friendly. I would pop in and have tea with you if Inwasn't in the USA (Decatur, Illinois)! Love you! I love both handbuilding and wheel throwing! I have always dipped, so the brush on is a learning experience for me! (LOL-that's cheating! LOL)
Hiya and thanks for watching. I'd so love to have a cup of tea with my viewers- that'd be so lovely. Maybe I'll do a virtual one- now that's an idea 💡 🤔. I'm so pleased you love the channel. Your kind words are very much appreciated 😊
Enjoying watching this new video! I'm finding it fun to hear other potter's showing their kiln openings and saying they've had a "sneaky peak like Sarah"! I know immediately who they are talking about! Continued good fortunes- thanks for sharing!!
OOooooh! The hedgehog is so cute! And your plates are beautiful. Interesting about the pinholes related to running hot. I have made a habit of including cone packs in every load. If something goes wrong, it's too late to stick them in after. And it's saved my load more than once, because the kiln didn't shut off when it was supposed to or it underfired as the elements were wearing out. To me, it's cheap insurance and makes diagnosing problems easier.
Thanks for watching Pat. The cones are definitely useful although the controllers on my kilns do most of the work for me. Hubby thinks it's probably the pyrometer which hasn't been changed before. More investigation to do but getting there. 😁
Some of the mayco glazes are pretty awesome - I'd recommend Lime Shower, it comes out interesting, just need to make sure you scoop enough chips out when applying - pretty bulletproof.
OMG, while watching your video and hear you talk about me I screamed out to my husband: "my pottery sister is calling me crazy!" Well.....he agrees ith you lol. Nothing makes me happier than to see somebody take something from my videos and make it their own. That piece is so good! I love the combination of a stencil and sgraffito and the sgraffity through the color blocking is beautiful! Funny thing...I am working on a large vase with also the combination of stencils and sgraffito at the moment. Well, that is I hope to finish it after this Christmas madness. Thanks for the mention my lovely pottery sis! And Sissy says hello to Cissy! Your students made some awesome pieces again, in love with that hedgehog, how cute is that? And can't wait to see that animal totem finished someday. Sending you virtual hugs from Bonaire. 🥰😘🤪
Enjoyed another kiln opening always inspiring. Like the plates they are beautiful . Like your sweater as well here in Florida it's way to hot . Thank for sharing looking forward to more vidoes. Still very new to making pottery. Just got a whisper wheel vl and practicing a lot. Happy Holidays to you and yours
Hello Neila and thanks for watching. How exciting to get your first wheel. I hope you have many chill out sessions throwing with clay. Thanks so much for your kind words. Much appreciated 🙏 ☺️
I purchased some Mayco Jungle Gems (after asking your advice recently) the other day and have glazed my latest pieces with them. I can't wait to see them out of the kiln!
I love your plates, and the slab technique with the wheel is definitely NOT cheating. There are no rules to pottery! Lovely pieces made by your students. Also, I love your jumper. 😍
The reason you use a triangular or three point stilt, is one from simple geometry, (which we could consider to be technical.) Three points define a plane. If you tried to use four points, you could have some major wobbles!
Thanks so much Sally. It's really so much easier than centering and spreading the clay from a ball. Cuts out a lot of the muscle power needed! Thanks for tuning in again 😊
You may not need to replace your elements! Your kiln temperature may just need to be offset. If you add a bit of a hold to the end you may have less pinholes. I’d suggest using witness cones on each shelf for your next several bisque and glaze firings to get a better idea of what’s going on in the kiln. I can’t imagine needing new elements after such few firings. Vacuum the kiln out as well. I had a few chunks of things on my elements and it interfered with the firings. You can test each element by using a multimeter to check the resistance. That will tell you if you need to change them or not. I bought new elements and come to find out I didn’t need to! I spent so much money on them but at least I have them for when I do need new ones! In no way is anything cheating! It didn’t matter how we get something made, we are using our two hands to do it and that’s not cheating. I think it’s hilarious that you are gifting your sister her own pot!!!! Hahahaha! Love that glaze combo. Can’t wait to try it.
Thanks so much Michele. I do vacuum the kiln each time before loading. I'll get hubby to check with a multimeter - great idea 💡. Thanks for the advice. Always so helpful to get comments from you. 😁
@@thepotterycorner I am so glad to hear that! I try to help as much as I can. I had to learn most everything before the internet and on my own so I really do try and give advice so others can learn from my mistakes instead of their own.
Sorry for the late reply. You can use glass beads but if you mix the type and colour they may not have the same coefficient when fired so test them first! Hope that helps. Greetings from a cold cold and snowy Norway 🇳🇴 😀
@@thepotterycorner thank you and I think I'm going to experiment with them. I found them at my dollar store and thought they should work. I also found glass gravel so going to try that as well. Greeting from a rainy slushy Niagara falls Canada.

Thanks so much. I think the same about combining the two but there are many throwing purists! Thanks for watching again 🙂
Of course it’s not cheating! It’s genius. Love ya Sarah Amos. Another fabulous video. Xxxx

You should definitely do a top 10 glazes video 🙏
Yes - definitely. On the list- but I'll need to get some stock in first as supplies will run out! 😆

I’d love to see Leslie’s totem when it is complete!
Absolutely. It's going to be a great piece. Thanks for watching 😊
I think it’s a brilliant idea to combine slab and wheel to make plates….I would think 🤔 reducing s-cracks too!😊
Hi Janette and thanks for watching. I haven't had any problems with S cracks using this method. So much easier to throw 😊

Yep I know exactly what you mean as I struggle to make plates on the wheel. I’m thinking of buying a GR Pottery form to make plates.

@@thepotterycorner oooh. Look forward to. Hope Mayco respond. Oh and that your elements have a few more firings yet x
it is not cheating to put your slab on the wheel, it is just an alternate way to achieve your plate.
