I've seen several Toy Federation business walk through videos and this was the best one yet. Good questions. Ryan seemed very comfortable with you and really opened up. Great video!!

With how it's all grown, it's crazy that I used to go to Ryan's house back when he just had a website, and his basement was his warehouse. He has a PROFOUND autograph collection - and we share a fascination with WWII. Man, I was such a nuisance to him and his family with taking such a ridiculous amount of time with picking out which items I'm gonna get...and he was over-the-top gracious with me being a burden while his family is upstairs ready to eat dinner. I only live 30 minutes away, but have only been to his current store once, because I had a bad car accident years ago (had a mild stroke), and didn't have collision insurance. If I still had a car, you bet your sweet ass I'd be milling around his store, basking in its glory on a weekly. It's like a toy museum...but everything is for sale. Ryan is *_genuinely_* a really good guy.
Ryan's passion, despite the hardship and doubters (especially from family), he is motivated to live what he loves. I hope to one day travel to Toy Federation, meet him, buy something from the backroom. That back room is crazy, but he has a vision that he sees to be great; inventory is a great problem to have as a seller, it's the avenues to take to sell them is difficult with limited time and money. Great interview
I don't give a shit whatsoever about toys and I absolutely loved watching this. Fascinating inside look into a fascinating business. Thanks Caleb and Toy Federation guy.
One of the big things I really appreciate about this man is the fact that he is honest and fair with his customers. There's so many people here on RUclips (and everywhere else for that matter) that take advantage of people and give them pennies on the dollar for their old toys, video games, comics, etc.... then brag about how they got a "deal of a lifetime". The world needs more honest people. 👍
My personal experiences with buying, selling, and trading with Ryan back in the day when his inventory was in his basement...he's absolutely very fair. There's no pretense or hidden agendas. A collector first, then a businessman. He's the real deal.
First time viewer of this channel and I have to say that the host/interviewer was very prepared, engaged and asked some great questions. I enjoyed that he picked up and featured some different toys. It is a toy shop after all and I’m in awe of the amount and variety of products he sells.
I run a toy booth and several online shops. All toys, for many years now. Getting inventory is HARD once you become successful. Ramping up was easy, growing past a certain spot is hard because people buy more than you can supply. This guy has mastered that by being in a spot people can find, which I envy. Also this store is beautifully displayed, something I try to do myself personally and people do comment on it. I'd love to open a shop myself, geared more towards toys for girls and women, a market that does exist by gets largely ignored because male collectors tend to be more plentiful. IMO. Owing the building is key as well as retail experience.
@@ChaseHenderson-kn2jr women change what they spend money on as they grow older but many of them never get rid of their toys to begin with and save them for their children and grandchildren rather than sell them. That inventory also does not justify the costs and shelf space.
I operated a booth a few months ago with more inventory gear to females- the guys buying "boy" toys were frugal, the woman went all in, the face on the females had excitement cause I reminded them of their childhood. And for reference, I sold them Jem dolls, Spice Girl Dolls, NKOTB dolls Polly Pocket and She-ra
My family went on vacation to Maggie Valley, NC. Since I found Ryan’s channel on RUclips. I had to make a trip to Greer, SC. From the moment I entered Toy Federation, I was transported back to my childhood. Ryan and his team are super nice and very knowledgeable about their product. I honestly could’ve spent my entire bank account on the vintage Star Wars, Transformers, and so much more. I would definitely make a trip to the Toy Federation and put it on your bucket list. Can’t wait to go back.
Yes indeed! It's a shame that I only live half an hour from his store, but not having a car anymore makes it virtually impossible for me to make it out there. I've only been to his current store once, but if I have the means, you bet I'd be going there every week. Even if you leave with not buying something, the experience alone is well worth the time and gas money. And here I am pointing out an hour round trips worth of gas money, but ppl travel a day or two to make it there.
Awesome video and my mind is blown with just how much inventory he has. Plus how much vintage toys are displayed from my childhood that I had forgotten about. Thank you I will checkout your whatnot shows and ebay store
Excellent video!!! I visited the store this past summer, and honestly, the owner and whole crew are really nice people. Super fair prices and also had the chance to make an offer which other stores don't accept offers at all. I know some people have criticized them due to the low prices they pay to the customers that go to the store to sell them vintage figures, but that's how the business works around a Toy/collectibles store. People think those businesses should pay them what they might seem on eBay or Toy shows.
This was an amazing video to be a part of shooting. Except for the many times I almost broke my neck tripping over something in the backroom while trying to hold the camera and marvel at everything 😅
These videos are so great. I'm a big fan of the Toy Federation youtube channel because I learn so much about both collecting and reselling. And Ryan's very right when he says the competition for new products is so fierce now, because all of the brands and manufacturers sell their products online now, and many times for *under* wholesale price. So if I'm a professional retailer and pay rent, business taxes, etc and buy products wholesale, how am I supposed to compete with an online retailer that's selling the product for less than wholesale? People talk shit about "resellers" and think everything is selling a $1 item for a massive profit. If everything I sold was bought wholesale or for market price, I'd lose money every day of the week.
This is ridiculous. I love the diverse mindset of shop owners and am glad to see he hired a couple people to sell on Ebay. I'm of the mindset of having as little backstock/unlisted inventory as possible so this would be an absolute nightmare. On the flipside, an absolute goldmine if it he can operate those backrooms down to one or two and run an Ebay business in the back, shop in the front. Best of luck and nice interview!
As a card shop owner I would like to thank you Phoenix Resale for putting up these kinds of videos... What an excellent interview. And tour. I went there for the first time this year traveling through. And they were kind and more than fair in their trade with me and I picked up a few grails.
Toy Federation needs to expand online it looks like, probably by a factor of 4 or 5. Two full time workers should easily 4x 25k on that 90 day total with that amount of easily accessible, relatively quick shipping and listing inventory
You say you need more options . You could always do booths in antique malls and flea markets . Why not ? Unless you weren’t making enough sales - but , at least from my experience , it has been 100 times better than expected . I’m one of the only Xbox specialists out there . My advice would be to do your thing . Stick with whatever that is and expand with 100 buck booths . The market is infinite if you know how to do it & all you have to do is restock every week or so . The special number is 13% . That’s the normal 10% plus the probable 3% card fee . If whatever you’re doing is doing less than 13% then you’re doing something wrong man . Anything more than that 13% is worth doing .
He’s 100% correct, it doesn’t matter where you are, toy people find you. I search in depth for trading card shops, or any shops that have vintage Pokémon cards. Would’ve never found the places if I didn’t dig for them.
Probably the best walkthrough/ interview of toy federation on the web period! Great job man!

What an excellent interview. And tour. I went there for the first time this year traveling through. And they were kind and more than fair in their trade with me and I picked up a few grails.
This was amazing , enjoyed every minute of it!
Awesome video, great questions. This was a very inspirational video. Well done.
Great vid, and Phoenix always asks the questions I'm thinking in the back of my head.
it like how your asking the good questions ! i like the deep dive into stores.
Love his channel. Great idea to get a inside look. Interesting.
One of the best toy stores out there. I always find some of the best stuff there! 🔥
Caleb. you're intelligent. you're a great interviewer! thank you. God bless you brother!
Said it before but saying it again, love the evolution of this channel

this is such an exceptional video, thank you spanky and caleb
I really like Ryan he seems very humble and a chill guy! Loved this video! Just subbed to the toy federation 🔥
Damn this man loves his job, you can sense the good vibes he sends, could be a motivational speaker, easy
It's cool seeing all the Street Sharks hype lately. I remember finding those and Biker Mice from Mars at the local mini mall and loving them
Really enjoyed this , love behind the scenes
This video was soooo good! Love Ryan and Toy Federation. ❤
I don't collect but this seems like the sort of place you need to stop by and visit if you're in the area.
Great store, owner, and video. Easy watch. Love these videos.
I started watching the video because of my love for toys but stayed because how interesting the guys perception about business 👏👏
Toy Federation needs to expand online it looks like, probably by a factor of 4 or 5. Two full time workers should easily 4x 25k on that 90 day total with that amount of easily accessible, relatively quick shipping and listing inventory
They do, but only some things. He doesn’t believe in shipping most of his items and wants inventory for local people.
You’ve got a real knack for these interviews. Keep it up!
"I'm buying, even I don't have money, but I'll figure it out". That's my motto too in tcg business.
I can't imagine having the product knowledge across an entire toy store like that. I kinda know diecast and am just getting into tech decks lol
only one on the floor dups in the back is the best idea, fomo is a money maker
Ryan dropping jewels 🔥
As a store owner myself , I love how certain people are so smart and full of information .
“Nobody needs what I have” crazy way to put it
He’s 100% correct, it doesn’t matter where you are, toy people find you. I search in depth for trading card shops, or any shops that have vintage Pokémon cards. Would’ve never found the places if I didn’t dig for them.
