I came back not knowing that the hobby has changed drastically and, I've join many different online groups but in most groups the conversations mainly surround money hardly nothing about the aesthetics of the cards or the players. if I've heard it once I heard it a thousand times. show me the money or "should I hold or sell it?. So good to see someone who appreciates vintage so much! The classic vintage cards will never lose their value, but only the occasional one of the modern hype cards will hold their current value over time. Great video with such a knowledgeable shop owner.
I do have to admit, I really loved the tour of the store. I am in Southern California, but your knowledge on cards, both of you guys, is impeccable. Really appreciated the video.
keeping in mind that i am 72, i think vintage baseball cards are much better than modern cards. when you have a vintage dimaggio, mantle, mays, musial, or williams card, you have something special.

My son and I after seeing a Michigan hockey game looked for a card store before leaving town. BAM!! Hit a home run with this place. I have always wished set building would come back. I have been building Topps sets since 1978. It just brings back the memories of watching the games back in the day
Amen brother!! I was a baseball junkie as a kid and just about every guy in a 69 topps set, for example, I knew all about 'em. There are just as many memories from common players as the big stars. Set building requires patience and as we all know, that is in short supply.

At 13:50 - how do we get back...? You promote the camaraderie of Trading. I'll give you an example: back in the late 70's, early 80's I used to trade regularly with Jerry Jarsma here in Parchment, Michigan. One session I traded him a '57 Mantle for a Kellogg's set. Some time later he found out the Kellogg's set was worth more so we traded back: no big deal. We both were BIG into Baseball Cards. He sold all his before the market dropped so he had a very good sense of timing to sell, or not to sell. 90% of my cards were stolen when I took them to Shipshewana, Indiana to trade with a BIG collector who had a booth there at that time.

I collect modern and vintage . Little bit of everything. One thing that’s interesting about vintage baseball. Most guys I talk to at card shows don’t even watch baseball anymore. I find that extremely common. The younger generation is really into sports cards , but they seem to just collect the stars . In my collection, I have random role players I like watching in the NBA. Mostly because I can pick up $5 autos and rookies , but when you ask somebody who their NBA team is they show you cards of the stars, they don’t even acknowledge the role players. When I follow a team I get to know a little bit about everybody. I think that’s a big difference between now and back then. To the modern collectors why would I want to collect a set when I don’t even know half the players.
I appreciate the fact that you made this video because I miss these old time card shops that carry old inventory. And your comments during this video opened my eyes as to what modern day collectors are. They're not really collectors they're flippers. And they're chasers looking for that adrenaline rush of pulling a premium card and everything else in the box is trash. What a waste. Breakers have ruined the sports card industry. Obviously if you're a breaker you think it's great because you're selling an illegal gambling / lottery. For the life of me I hope some of these state and federal government agencies wake up to the the fact that breaking is a form of illegal gambling. I'm not talking about ripping I'm talking about breaking. And selling spots in a break. One thing I didn't hear you guys talked about in your tour was the PSA set registry. That keeps set collecting alive. I have many of the top hockey sets on the PSA set registry between 1969 and 1980. As well as some top non-sports cards from the 60s. I want to come visit this shop. I was really shocked and surprised that you didn't know who Alex Delvecchio was! The other thing at the beginning of your video you asked "what do you sell the most of baseball football or basketball?". You didn't even mention hockey !!! Vintage hockey is one of the best things to collect because not only is it scarce like all vintage but it's even more scarce than baseball cuz it was only produced in about 25% of the volume of baseball cards. In a way listening to you talk about the hobby from your perspective made me sad because it really doesn't seem like it's about collecting and set building anymore. It's more like the adrenaline rush of a kaboom. At some point I see this market crashing like it did like it did starting in 88. Overall I did enjoy your video so thank you.
you have to think about it this way the older people have the money... so right now the vintage stuff is worth a premium.... in 30 years what we are collecting now will be worth the premium and the current vintage stuff will have come down a little.... you see this in the vintage/collector cars....
The dual PSA 5's remind me of the slogan in coin collecting world, "Buy the coin, not the holder!" ☆ It be cool to have a low mint state (ms63) common date Morgan silver dollar to do coin flips with!
@mojo_sports With the "Sheldon Grading Scale" consisting of 1-70 there's some room to find an under graded gem like cards; but is pretty difficult as the big 2-3 companies (PSA parent company PCGS is #1 NGC is 2 and ANACS is 3) are very technical (each different coin has certain high points that wear down easier). A cool thing is a star secondary grade usually signifies stellar eye appeal! A rare combo is a plus and a star after say a ms65+☆ Toned coins are awesome too!

Chris's Cards in Salem NH is older. Been going there since the mid 80s
you have to think about it this way the older people have the money... so right now the vintage stuff is worth a premium.... in 30 years what we are collecting now will be worth the premium and the current vintage stuff will have come down a little.... you see this in the vintage/collector cars....
This shop needs security. They have millions in inventory. Nice cards.
Castle Comics in Penticton BC used to be Bob's Comics back in the early 80s. I think they still sell sports cards.
I wish I had a card shop like this in my city.
its a classic
There's just a better feeling holding an old vintage rookie you've always seen compared to any new card.
I feel like you can find some hidden gems in a shop like this.
The dual PSA 5's remind me of the slogan in coin collecting world, "Buy the coin, not the holder!" ☆ It be cool to have a low mint state (ms63) common date Morgan silver dollar to do coin flips with!
That is a really good point. I like the coin refrence
