12:08 That husband priced those cards back in 1991 using Becket...LOL...today they can be used to start a fire.....lol. You have to find the Erik & Lyle The Menedez Brothers Mark Jackson was randomly in the brothers card listed on Ebay...It is a hilarious custom made card. I cant believe there are 1400 sold comps on that card. 1990 Hoops was my peak of the Junk Wax era and it blows me away that a sealed box still goes for $40 which is what they charged back in 1990 for an entire box...too funny.
I wonder if Marc Jackson sits around his apartment saying, “sure glad those Menendez brothers are on my card or else that card would be worth 5 cents”……
Great video!.......You are so right about prices at flea markets.......Usually cheap or way over priced......What state & city are you guys in?.....Could not tell by the video?......Great job!
@PickingandPunchingCard your a reseller admit that much you probably jumped in the hobby in 2020 probably asks what's your 10 best cards probably says I pay half comps I need to resell
First lot was a no brainer at $500 there was enough volume there to resell if that’s what you do..eBay,what not, local auction houses. I definitely would of bought it but again I’m a hoarder I would of pulled what I wanted the rest would of been donated to local police dept & fire dept to hand out to kids.
He wanted $700. If I was going to resell it (it’s what I do), I would have needed it up be a lot less than that. It would have been a ton of work. I like the idea of donating it to the local police dept/fire company to pass out to kids. I need to look into that.
Kids want players they know, not retired players they never watched or follow. I am pretty sure the Police and fire dept will throw those cards out. Some people donate these trash cards to get a tax write off.
@@JohnSmith-nj4zq actually my police department & fire department doesn’t throw them out they actually hand them out to kids when they are on calls or just in the neighborhoods. They even call me when they are low so I can take more down to them. I also take cards to children hospital here in Vegas and the kids love them.

It was all or nothing. I never went through that box. I wish I had. I would of made him an offer on the stuff. Congrats on your pickup!
I had dozens of the Mark Jackson cards that I sold recently. Also, one of the Menendez brothers came through my joint and cried when he was forced to remove his hair piece.
My biggest honey holes for late 90s sealed wax used to be mom and pop online card stores. I was finding lots of deals around 7 years ago on 1997-00 sealed wax. Those avenues have long dried up by now. In 2017 I remember 1997-98 ex 2001 sealed boxes for $500 via Ebay...I think the most recent sale was $6k for that box. Crazy what that market has done.
Thanks for the shoutout Rod and for mentioning me to Dave - I did buy the plaque from him and it's displayed in the collection. I agree some of that pricing was outrageous on the cards.
A couple boxes with a bunch of cards that's not just junk id buy just to have fun sorting and looking up the values $2-$5 cards add up really really fast. Another thing I do is I will buy lots like that and then mix auto's patches relics ect ect and people will eat them up. I have made a lot of money off sports and Pokemon the last couple years all I have left now is a big football collection small Baseball lot big Hockey collection and a bunch of mixed Basketball sets where some are complete and some are missing a couple cards. Once those are gone I am out unless I find stuff super cheap I will spend more of my time on vintage toys collectables and retro video games.
I’m a bargain box guy all day long. You can really do well if you are willing to put the time in. I wish I would have be able to get a couple of those boxes to go through. It would have been a lot of fun to go through. I’m a big toy and retro video game guy myself.
That’s a great question. It really comes down to the vendors and what they have that day. Typically I find that you can get best deals from people who aren’t card dealers. The ones who buy out stuff at garage sales, storage units, or house clean outs. You just have to be consistently going. It’s a numerous game.
@@PickingandPunchingCards Ok. Let's say u go to 10 flea markets at random, not knowing anything about the vendors or if they're card dealers, etc. Then, how many flea markets have cards that are more or less a bargain, vs fair price, vs high price?
I see people all the time that have stuff “priced to keep”. Especially in the wild. Everyone thinks they can retire off a box of 1990 Donruss. Hell I think we all thought we would retire on cards. Didn’t work out that way. Overprinting killed the hobby. Same thing is happening now. The market is getting over saturated. Nom game used relics. Sticker autos. Just another bubble waiting to burst. That last guy with the duke snider Kelloggs card had some decent stuff. I would have tried to offer $100 just to see where hes at lol.....no way i would pay even $20 for a mantle without coa. Pete rose....his auto is worth about 20 so id pay 10 lol
So my story is this. I still think about it often. I graduated high school in 1988. In one of my classes, one of my class mates had brought in a cigar box of old baseball cards his grandpa had had since he was a little kid. An he had passed them down to my class mate which was his grandson. However he wasn't into baseball card collecting. So he brought them into one of my other class mates to give to him. So i told him collected baseball ball cards to. So he says well, if i knew you collected them i would have brought them in an given them to you. 😂 So i asked him if i could look at them before he gave them to my other class mate. An he said yea go ahead. The first card i looked at was a 1952 andy pafko rookie an the second card was a mickey mantel an then the third card was jackie robinson. There was about a 100 cards in the box. I didn't get to look at them all but most of the ones i did look at were all 1952 topps cards. An they were in pristine condition. Like they just been opened out of the pack an put in the cigar box an put away. Still to this day i wonder what became of them. What they are worth today is amazing if graded between 6-10. The best i can remember about them i believe they would have graded at least a 5-7. So that my story.
Could you imagine what his parents thought if they knew it was valuable and found out later on they he just gave them away 🤯. I wonder if the kid who gave them away thinks about it often….
