I see some weird "sucker" auctions all the time on eBay. I mean some are so outright overpriced NOBODY would be able to afford them. I guess it's more of a gag listing but why does eBay allow? That beanie baby listing though feels like someone THINKS they have a rare one but they are just delusional.

I think it went like this; us UK folk had Action Force based on Action Man, then Palitoy released the second wave of GI Joe figures on those old style Action Force cards, then more Joes on rebranded GI Joe cards; Action Force: International Heroes. Then we went GI Joe: the Action Force. I think that's broadly correct.

Then after the initial Palitoy action force lines finished we were able to get the U.S. GI Joe stuff rebranded Action Force International Heroes from about 1985 onwards. Almost best of both worlds, but certainly no where near the level of GI Joe figs and vehicles that you got across the Atlantic!

Action Force was an interesting one because (as a Brit) I knew Action Man, but didn't realise that there was a link to AF. And then a few years later AF, which had been pretty generic WW2 / Cold War soldiers with that distinctive that cocked arm, suddenly started having cool ninjas and evil badguys with complex vehicles, and expanded pose-ability. I was an avid reader of Transformers UK comics at the time, and at some point there was a Marvel crossover where Action Force appeared as like the European arm of GI Joe which was my first intro to the "other" name outside of it being periodically mentioned in moves like The Boy Who Could Fly.

If people knew how to use and filter EBAY it could be great. Unfortunately people see something worth 20 bucks on there for BIN price of 50 or 60 and assume that is what its worth. On the flip side EBAY has hidden fees and percents that make it hard to make money. Nothing beats going in person to a shop and talking prices, in reality most mom and pop shops have the most realistic prices. Its a shame they have to compete with big box and online. Keep the Christmas tree up all year, it was the best holiday as a kid.

So a brief primer on Action Force.
Palitoy were the UK distributers for the 12" GI Joe which they rebranded as Action Man and was a big hit in the 70s. In the early 80s they noticed that sales of Action Man were declining while sales of Star Wars figures (which they were also UK distributers for) were going gangbusters. This was also around the time of the oil crisis when producing plastic products was becoming very expensive, and Palitoy had the idea of relaunching Action Man as a spin-off 3 3/4" line just like Star Wars. Across the pond, Hasbro had had exacty the same idea and I believe Action Force and GI Joe: RAH debuted within months of each other on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
Like RAH, Action Force initially tried to be quite a serious line with a focus on real military technology but soon went off in a completely different direction with aliens and world-spanning threats appearing. Also like RAH it launched a promotional tie-in comic. Unlike RAH, however, the figures were very simple 5poa affairs in the Star Wars style, where RAH went for a much more super-articulated feel. For a couple of years the two lines were completely independent, until Palitoy started bringing over some RAH figures and repainting them to fit the Action Force theme. I believe both Cobra Commander and Snake Eyes were included in Action Force but as completely different characters.
A few more years went by, and now Palitoy had been bought by Hasbro. Hasbro wanted to launch RAH in the UK properly, but Action Force was still a popular brand so they decided to stick with it. From this point on everything was now repackaged RAH product, with just the name on the box changed to Action Force. The 5poa figues were all completely retired, the Red Shadows who had been the main antagonists of Action Force previously were replaced by COBRA. The UK-produced Action Force comic was taken over by Marvel UK who mainly reprinted US RAH strips hastily edited to remove any reference to the GI Joe name (I believe there were some UK original comic stories, as there had been for Transformers). That continued for another couple of years (including an extraordinary dub of the animated movie, which had every reference to GI Joe removed as well as renaming Sgt Slaughter to Sgt Slammer) and finally Hasbro just decided it was easier if GI Joe was GI Joe in every region. To be honest, this was at a time when RAH was kind of dying off anyway so it made little difference but the last couple of years of the line were sold in the UK as GI Joe and the Action Force name disappeared. It stayed gone for around 30 years until Bobby Vala picked it up (the story I heard was that Hasbro had so little interest in the line that they had let the trademark lapse and so Vala swooped in).
A lot of UK kids now in their 40s and 50s have fond memories of Action Force, especially the early Palitoy produced stuff. And they still show up from time to time; I think one of the US GI Joe comics recently had a storyline where the Red Shadows were introduced as new villains.

Started noticing some of my higher end pops really start to drop in price and i wasn’t really collecting much anymore so id rather get my money out while i could. Idk if the hobby will ever die out like Beanie Babies but now the Pop game is all about signatures. Everyone wants to stand in line to pay crazy signature prices and then go try and sell to someone who wasn’t lucky enough to own specific pop and get it signed. There is a market for it cause the shop i sold my stuff to deals heavy in pops and they are always buying and moving these crazy priced pops. Big pass for me on that aspect. I knew it had head damage (the inside bottom of the head suffers from "GPS", or gold plastic syndrome, where the plastic is very brittle), but turned out the leg housing inside was busted. I’ll be bringing over a load of action force stuff to Joefest along with my buddy Stefan Brown who will have a full table. Happy to help educate you about the history, plenty of European joe fans heading over this year with AF knowledge

That Styracosaurus in the background is the MVP of this video! My favorite from when I was a kid all the way until my dog ate the two I had like ten years ago...
