I also recommend BBC Orchestra Discover by Spitfire, which is free as well.
    -
Also ProjectSAM's "The Free Orchestra" (if you own the full version of Kontakt, which is not free).
    -
PS. If you're using FL Studio, make sure to enable "align tick lengths" in the Audio Settings, otherwise the SINE player might give problems.

I downloaded both Layers and Labs. I got The Free Orchestra (now working with Kontact 6 player) and downloaded Komplete Start for free. I also ordered Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra, which is free if you fill out a questionnaire. There is a two week delay and it hasn't yet arrived. I've been listening to a lot of paid orchestral plug-in demos and the ones I like best so far are Orchestral Tools Metropolis Ark 1, Ark 2, and Junkie Brass. These sound really good. They will go on sale eventually and I will pick them up. In the meantime I can hone my skills with the freebies. DSK Music was how I started off orchestral composition, although I come from a background working with sundry ethnic, "world instruments", and that's exactly where DSK excels. Middle Eastern/South Asian, East Asian, African, European, American, and Island instruments. They tend to be more supplementary these days in my projects, but they definitely are well-crafted for freebies. Highly worth checking out. Incidentally, they also have things like moogs, synths/leads and electronic instruments, and more experimental stuff for those who really get into the experimental nitty-gritty with their sounds. There are textures, pads and sound design stuff. Great developer!

In all seriousness, your content is fantastic. I’m transitioning from Finale (which is a notation software) to Ableton and the learning curve has been really steep for me. I studied classical music in college but I never actually took a class in the production side of things, and knowing what an orchestra sounds like up-close (considering I’ve played with one before) has left me dissatisfied with the stock instruments. Even though this is chord-based, I’m still really glad I found this video bc it led me to your content. You have some solid stuff on here, dude, and I think you have a really good ear for orchestrating the melodies floating around in your head. A good sense of humor too! Definitely got a sub from me!

Really glad i found your video, ive been trying to write an Ennio Morricone style piece infused with rock. Normally for the music i tend to make i use synth string or mellotron sounds as they work for the style but this needed actual string sounds. I am amazed at how good this sounds for a free instrument. Only played around with it a bit and already enjoying it, just sounds so great. Will stay tuned to watch videos on how to make authentic orchestral sounds :)

Layers sound really awesome. I'm just learning how to use it and I'm having some difficulties coming to terms with the fact that it's all chord-based. As a guitarist and keyboardist, I'm very stuck in my ways and it feels weird to not lay out the actual chords myself, but it is a clever concept and it sounds so great I'm gonna keep at it. Also, I love the way you sway with the music as it's playing. That adds an extra _layer_ to the video. ;)
