I knew the first two methods, but never thought I could capture screens of specific apps, neither recording the screen. Thanks a lot, it's very helpful!
Wonderful David!!! For one week now I thought how to film content of my website to add to my next RUclips video. Now I discovered it! You are my hero! I'll practice right away 😍
David I love how you get in depth with the classes I'm new to the whole OS X ecosystem and I've been watching your videos for about a week now! I just want to know what can I do with a MacBook Air? And what I mean is, with Windows I used to download stuff off the web all the time, I'm just not so familiar with the capabilities of Safari and how to properly download and install software from 3rd party sites. Please help. There are a slew of questions I have revolving on this topic. Email me if you wish.
Thanks for a very helpful class. I recently made a slideshow using Photos with both photo and video content. When transferred to I Tunes and a USB drive to show on a smart TV the slideshow works but the video is slow and jumpy and it loses the sound. Any suggestions or is there a specific class on this? Thanks.
Thanks David - very useful video. One point, if I may. Method 3 - the soundtrack says hit command+shift+4 - the text under the video says '3' - NOT '4'
I can't thank you enough for this David, you just made my week with the video recording, quick question though, would it be possible to just record a fraction of the screen instead of the entire thing on QuickTime? Or crop it afterwards?
Found the way to get audio on Quicktime screen recording. When the Quicktime box appears, toggle the white triangle on the right hand side of the box and select 'Built-in microphone'. Violà!
Which OS are you running? When I open Quicktime it wants me to select a file on my hard drive--then when I go to my QT menu and select File/ New Movie Recording (which is different than what yours says) it opens up a window facing ME and ready to record/ I am on El Capitan on iMac and my QT is 10.4--so what's up?
Bless you David A Cox....I have been struggling trying to learn my MacBookPro for nearly the last year and NO Mac is NOT intuitive as all the support folks at Apple keep trying to tell me.....PC's are intuitive. I still don't really like my Mac as I constantly have compatibility issues with it and don't like being so frequently asked for my Apple ID. But Bless you for making this whole Apple experience much better.
+bnpbaku Glad we've been able to help! What compatibility issues have you had? And when are you being asked for your Apple ID? Regarding being intuitive, that's really based mostly on your previous experience. I used PCs for most of my life and only switched to Mac in the last 6-7 years and now I find PCs awkward and difficult. It's all based on what your experience has been and what you have to unlearn.
I did that Quick Time, Screen Recording, there was no sound. I tried New Movie Recording, but could not get it to work. It records sounds in the room and the start was not usable and no stop button, in the menu bar. What do you think? • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
+trainroomgary Sorry you're having trouble with it. Try these keyboard shortcuts to make it easier on you. support.apple.com/kb/PH5883?locale=en_US I've used it many times and it works well.
Sir , I'm in massive need to maintenance of Macbook battery , is plugging in harmful al the time ??! Should i charge and recharge every time ?? And of coarse all Apple product .. Help please , i trust you .
+his kingdom As far as I know. It's not a question of the age of Mac, but rather the version of the OS. I know this has been the same for many versions over the last 6-7 years or more. Can't say prior to that off hand.
Oh - I have come across a problem with method 4. I can capture a screen VIDEO recording OK - but there is no AUDIO. Any ideas? 'New Movie Recording' from the file menu simply uses the internal camera. What am I doing wrong? Using iMac OS 10.9.5
To maximise your PRODUCTIVITY I use: COMMAND + CONTROL + SHIFT + 4 this will save it directly in the CLIPBOARD without creating a file! Perfect for Word, Evernote, etc.

Great tips & trick video! Any chance you are planning to do video to reduce the size of "Other" storage in Mac HD (and what they consist of)?
We did a class on that this past year. I'll have to look to see what the name was but you can find it here on our channel.
Thanks, very useful info.

***** nvm, it's watermarked. thanks
+Cittykat Does Gaming You can also use Quicktime if you want something simple that you already have on your Mac.
Mark Collier Quicktime doesn't record my Macbook's audio that is playing.
Thank you very much, I really needed that :-D again thanks

Is there a way to review the screen capture history on a mac?
Do these methods work on all Macs (young and old)?

To maximise your PRODUCTIVITY I use:
COMMAND + CONTROL + SHIFT + 4
this will save it directly in the CLIPBOARD without creating a file!
Perfect for Word, Evernote, etc.
I don't have a cmd button for my keyboard. I need help
There also is the short cut Command + Shift +4 then Space bar to capture a whole window of an application
+jehousley
he also says that in the video^^
+Leon Krug No, he mentions Command + Shift + 3 and not 4. There are 5 ways, not 4
jehousley just watch the fucking video. At about 1:20 he explains just what you said he did not talk about. cmd+shift+4+space bar.
How do you see the screenshots?
same can't find it
On your desktop
The old "grab" app still works also, minus the video.
I think you mean command + shift + 4 in the info above.
