    Realize you don't have to take the alternator off

      True, but only 2 bolts and a connector and you have so much more room to work with! Come on Scotty!!

      @@EuroSpecMTL Yes while you are in there might as well do the water pump, thermostat, and replace the belt. Job complete :) Yeah

      I asked my Mechanic if I had a bad water pump, & he said he couldn't tell .
      Just press a small dowel to the housing & listen.

    I just did mine today. Start to finish was 4.5 hours. If I did it again, I could do it in 3 hours. Tips: remove alternator, some say you don't have to but it helps angles plus I couldn't get the water pump out with it in place and even swiveling it. Completely removed it. Remove the plastic shroud underneath, three 10 mm bolts and about five clips (push pull tabs). Buy a magnetic 10mm socket.
    The bolts are all 10 mm for the pump.
    Consider removing the motor mount and jacking up the Motor. I'd try it next time because fighting the frame rail was a total nightmare.
    Buy denso brand only. It's twice the price but ten times the quality.

    Thank you so much, my water pump blew in my college parking lot 3 hours ago and luckly this car is simple and my rachet set in the trunk could do this. Of course getting to a parts store is a different issue but this video was great

      Maybe rattling is coming from the belt tensioner?

      @hodgeez I think the aisin which is the company who made the part for toyota needs no gasket .
      The duralast and trq come with gaskets and tell you to use them .
      They used one in the TRQ video

    How did you find the water pump was bad? What was the mileage of this car? Toyota corolla water pump failure is hard to believe.
    Also, sijce you replacing pump, better to replace thermostat, belt etc to avoid future repairs on the same area.

    • @CarsYouCanFix
      @CarsYouCanFix  27 дней назад

      The water pump was leaking from the pulley area. Had to use a mirror to see the leak.

    • @janisb5522
      @janisb5522 27 дней назад

      @CarsYouCanFix very interesting to know it had leak in pulley area. What year the car and how many miles it clocked? If they didn't maintain it well by frequent coolant replacement, it could damage the pulley bearing as the coolant property will change over time

    • @CarsYouCanFix
      @CarsYouCanFix  27 дней назад

      This was an 06 model, not sure the exact mileage but was over 100k. I have a feeling the vehicle was not getting routine coolant service. When looking for the leak you have to position your mirror to look behind the pulley, a little tough but doable with a small mirror.
