  • Is the cheaper Cupra Leon hot hatch a better bet than the Audi S3 or VW Golf GTI? It shares plenty with both, but could surprise you with its price and model range.
That's because, unlike the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3/S3 model ranges, the Cupra Leon hatchback has the choice of a few different tunes of turbo-petrol engines, but also scores a more eco-friendly option in the form of the Cupra Leon VZe plug-in hybrid.
Is that part-petrol, part-electric car the way to go? Or should you choose either the base model Cupra Leon V, or mid-range Cupra Leon VZ? Or the full-fat, VW Golf R rivalling Cupra Leon VZx?
The prices seem right, the equipment is legit, and the ownership promise is on par with rivals from Europe. So is there a catch?
In this review, Tung Nguyen sums up the Cupra Leon range and helps you find out which one - if any - would be right for you.

There’s a station wagon version sold in New Zealand, and of course Europe. That makes 228kW and 400Nm (same as the Formentor 310), and AWD.
A PHEV is also available (I saw one the other day).

Have you been made aware of the CUPRA Authorised Service Partners in Australia? Assuming they will be using Volkswagen for service? Or will AUDI / ŠKODA be used also perhaps? Any insight in relation to this?

I know Cupra/Seat is a halfway point between Skoda & VW in some markets but seriously when it looks this good who cares about the badge when the platform is very similar.
I personally think the VZx & VZe would be great, only improvement I could think of would be AWD / comparable to Golf R

I have the Formentor (228kW), it's better than Skoda and VW in terms of quality and feel - and drives better and faster too, looks better. Different animal, although the platform is the same. Best part - it's way cheaper too where I live!

Ah, the Leon. Magnet to police in Spain, specially the MK2. Youngsters popular car, police always like to stop. Yellow Leon = you will make lot of police friends.😅Cupras use to be tuned in Seat sport division in Spain ... I think WV don´t like they tuned to be a bit better that a golf GTI

Interesting car but I can't get over the design of the Leon. The base car looks somewhat imbetween a Mazda 3 series and a Ford Fiesta; somewhat nondescript. But then several metallic bronze coloured accents have been added to the wheels and interior that do catch the eye but seem to be over the top for such a plain design of a car. I don't love it or hate it. It is just a meh. The engine options are the most interesting options imo.

Hmmm Tung don't you think non car people who go shopping for one of these
should know that they're little more than a SEAT with a trim and perhaps a power upgrade.
SEAT is a failed make in Australia..It can't be that hard to say the parent company is SEAT and they're having another crack at the Australian market.

SEAT was sold in Australia around 25 years ago. They’re quite different now and the average buyer that looks at one won’t be making that comparison

@@brianbellomo9389 That's a conclusion on your part.I got the feeling that Cupra said ..''sure, you can have a car for a review as long as you don't mention SEAT.''
They have pulled out of our market once before..they might again with Cupra.

I think you'll find a lot of prospective GTI and Octavia RS buyers will go this way with the price savings plus tangible benefits compared to the GTI - like physical steering wheel buttons.

Everything works perfectly fine for me. Only thing I noticed is that if I press the options on the touchscreen too fast after I start the engine it will lag for a few sec. After that it works fine again.

Seat used to be a cheap vw branch, but they have come a long way since then. Seat makes perfectly fine cars these days, and of 2018 cupra is a separate more upmarket brand. But of course it's too expensive, like all other new cars

  • @tutiefruitie7730
    @tutiefruitie7730 Год назад +1

Yeah right! Paying $60,00 to $70,000 plus for an unknown car brand with fake exhaust sounds coming from the car speakers and new in the market. That’s a risk people shouldn’t take considering the world economy right now.
It’s like dressing up a donkey in horse skin. Underneath the skin still is a bloody donkey.
    It’s a bloody SEAT!

I've got a Formentor VZ3 and any Škoda, Audi or VW dealership is servicing it without any issues. Except the body, it's just a slightly bigger top spec Audi S3.
