Great video and really detailed. I'm starting to work on a two-handed backhand at the kitchen line, but didn't think about it for blocking like this. Dropping the paddle is so important, and many players struggle to do this on their backhand. Glad you were so specific in your instructions. Thanks!
I really like this video. I have been looking for this type of video to help with resets in the transition zone. Perfect drill for improving my game. Thanks. Nice Job.
Hey, Jordan: I'm a much better pb player and coach for having found you and (your lovely wife!) Katrina's RUclips videos a few short years ago. Yes, I'm still watching them with great interest, and I refer my pb friends and colleagues (at least the ones I LIKE!) to do the same. Of recent, I've been meeting with our local and very fast growing (!!) PB Club of over 700 members about the drilling and strategy sessions that we'll be teaching this summer. Your name and videos have come up a few times, and we're happy to have them available to add to our "resource" list. Many thanks for sharing your time, energy, effort and expertise with us!
@@BrionesPickleball We're about an hour north of The Mile High City of Denver ... in the high elevation of Loveland Colorado. We've got the snow off of the courts and we're BRINGING it!
Great pointing out of these shots for additional arsenals. These are my favorite returns when it comes to defending fast/smashed down returns . Stability on the legs, stability on your two handed grip to create a solid wall to dig-block the ground ball to push forward motion, timing and reading of ball's speed to utilize its momentum to bounce off of your paddle with control...normally use to defend and to reset. In addition to that, an optional shot that would save you in this position would be inbetween the legs trick shot with one hand grip, quick swing around the leg if ball bounces slightly passing between your legs...are for the advance players.
Tried this a bit when warming up before play today. I noticed that when up at the NVZ my shots with the 2 hands crossed the net, on average, lower than when hitting with one hand. Definitely going to explore this more. Thanks as always.
I just added this to my game and I'm excited about it. I know it's supposed to be for defending put-away shots but actually it's really helping me at the net.
Blocking/resetting with 2 hands is something I am working on especially on the low ball between the legs or at the feet. I use both the 2 handed and 1 handed backhand for both drives and dinks so that helps but I also find that the 2 handed shot helps to train the off hand and has made a difference when I have to use the off hand by itself.
Excellent video and just what I needed. I am coming off a shoulder injury that has taken 5 months to heal, and trying to incorporate assist from my left hand and softer shots. Thank you for your videos - always the best!
Thanks Jordan, I have been working on using two hands but come game time I go back to what seems easier. I had surgery on my right wrist years ago and it does not bend backwards. At about 2 minutes into the video, if I don’t have stability with one hand spin the paddle and use both hands. Just thought that was funny. Thanks again for the videos.
Great video; I’ve been using this technique for about 3 months after watching Riley Newman. It really helps when I first start a game and am nervous to stabilize my drop shots and not over hit them! It also helps deaden my blocks at the NVZ, however It does shorten my reach and that is when using one hand is best. Thanks Katrina is getting very good.
Great video. How about a video on "shaping" or "targeting" your shots? What good mechanics are needed for better control in placing dinks, volleys, drops, and drives. Keep up the great work!
I have found that because so many of the hard smashes come with top spin, I will block rotating the top edge of my paddle angled closer to the net than the bottom edge. When I aim for the tape of the net, this technique reduces deadly pop-ups. There's just so many pop-ups one is capable of returning.
I'm a "choker" and I even tried placing my whole free hand on the face of the paddle. Did this hitting my machine drillng me at close range. Just for kicks really, never used it in a game.
I wouldn’t suggest the whole hand, although if you try it, grab it with your left hand and maybe just try a couple of fingers on the paddle face instead.
Great video. I am right handed. If a ball comes and I am not able to hit it with my backhand I change hands and hit with my left hand. I did it in a game today and it worked. Have you ever tried it. Thanks for the video. Ben
That may be an option at times, although I don’t recommend switching hands routinely. For playing defense, two hands is better than one most of the time.
Awesome video!. Great rationale, progress and then technique(for returner and feeder) You mention stability and a wide stance so is it correct that you are guiding more with your arms than lifting with your legs? And therefore how does this differ from say a drop or regular dink?
Hey Ian, actually I’m lifting more from my shoulders, and my legs are pretty stable and not doing much. Having a wide solid base helps with the stability and getting low!
Has anyone struggled with shoulder/neck pain after incorporating 2 handed backhands/2 handed forehands? I’m right handed & it’s my left that has pain. I looooove driving with 2 hands, but it is probably the culprit. I stretch etc but any tips would be appreciated. Maybe I’m overextending orrrr…? Thanks!
Probably. I’ve never heard of pain due to a two hander. Most likely your stroke is very inefficient, and you are very tense and tight when you swing. You should feel very loose and relaxed.
Thank you very much for posting and your (and your wife's) time. Dinking wise, I use both hands so can't use two, but I will try using the two hands for blocking. Thank you again. And congrats on going over 11K subscribers.
Jordan. Top hand, bottom hand responsibilities is a baseball hitting terminology. With 2 hands when you want to power thru a ball and turn on it the bottom hand "pulls" the ball.
Thank you for talking about people who have a choke grip. A lot of videos don’t talk about those players and how to adjust for it
👍🏻

Great follow-up video to the other one I just watched (retreating). Wow, thanks. And great job Katrina!!
😎

Thanks !
Yes! I’m having a time returning those, so today will try using two hands. You present techniques thoughtfully and easy to understand. Thank you.
Thanks Lori !

Yes, tweener is an option, but this is still better!

Awesome Randy!

Very good video. Btw, do you have a video on two-handed putaways or speed ups near the kitchen line?
Also a video on a two handed drive of course.
That will come soon…

That’s a good one Gregory! Maybe in a future video.

Your videos are very good. Well, excellent actually.
Thanks!
I picked this up naturally. Love the control. Less pop ups. Better resets.
Awesome!
Great video. Detailed and relevant. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Sue!
Yep, I need to practice this. P.S. Katrina is really has great control too. Ah ha, yes the 2 handed dig. Gotta try that.
She does!!
Another great tip. Thank you!
Thanks Jack !
Is the lifting reset motion (for both 1hand and 2 handed resets) in the arm/shoulder or in the legs?
Both, mainly from the shoulder
Love it! If added two handed counter attack, it will cover everything we need to have for two handed shots
That’s a future video😊

I would've like to see you add the two hand backhand slice and show it's technique. Or is it best to adapt and change to one hand for the slice?
Yes, I don’t recommend the 2 handed slice. It’s easier with one hand.
Great video. I am right handed. If a ball comes and I am not able to hit it with my backhand I change hands and hit with my left hand. I did it in a game today and it worked. Have you ever tried it. Thanks for the video. Ben

Excellent as always 👌
Thanks!
Great video, I have been considering this for quite some time. I'll give it a shot! Also, do you mind letting me know what net this is? Thanks!
C&D pickleball nets!
It looks like you are using a long handled Engage paddle. What about a mid to short length handle?
It’s preference. I do enjoy both
Which paddle are you using? Can this technique also be used with standard paddle handle length?
Yes. I use the encore MX 6.0.
Great tips
Thanks

@@BrionesPickleball That’s likely true. I’ll try again with fluidity & use my body more. Thanks for all of your useful tips!
Do you use this for reset volleys when transitioning or just half volleys?
I use it for both at times. Try it out and see what feels good to you!
Thank you very much for posting and your (and your wife's) time. Dinking wise, I use both hands so can't use two, but I will try using the two hands for blocking. Thank you again. And congrats on going over 11K subscribers.
Thanks David!
Good progression.
Thanks!
Hmm? I'm 🤔 thinking?
Top hand pushes the ball. Bottom hand pulls the ball thru the hitting zone.
Top hand Pushing/lifting through, yes. With my bottom hand, I’m guiding and lifting. Not pulling.
Jordan. Top hand, bottom hand responsibilities is a baseball hitting terminology. With 2 hands when you want to power thru a ball and turn on it the bottom hand "pulls" the ball.
What kind of shoes are you wearing?
Wilson’s rush
Let's go!

Defending on that 5th shot looks like a volleyball block, or dig, with the hands together.
Yes!
This is my hardest skill to master and I am still not able to 😢 for the last 3 months.
Keep working on it !
You mention an eastern grip but never show it. So I don’t know what it is.
Continental is on the left, eastern is in the middle.

👍👍👍
😊
I wish you would stop constantly twirling your paddle when you’re not using it. It’s visually annoying!
Lol
