  • What is a Hedgewitch and how do you practice as a Hedgewitch? Here I discuss one of the many interpretations of who a Hedgewitch was and what a Hedgewitch did. I say many, because a Hedgewitch was uniquely her own wild self, she was whatever she wanted to be... a Greenwitch, a Kitchenwitch, a Weatherwitch, but whatever skills she learned she undoubtedly learned from the Old Wise One of Nature.

    Rae Beth's Hedgewitch was one of the first books I read about witchcraft and paganism. I've tried being involved in organised pagan groups but it hasn't really worked for me. Returning to hedgewitchery allows me to discard the layers of faff and distraction that can build so that I can focus again on my own connection with the land.

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  3 года назад +1

      Haha, I like that. I've never been part of an organised group, just small social gatherings. Something about an "organisation" has put me off I think. Rae Beth's books are excellent imho, even reading them creates magic!

    It was very nice hearing your thoughts on Hedge witchery I enjoyed it, and your respect for Shamanism, too many people tend to mix up Animism, and shamanism and have lowered shamanism a true folk religion of Manchu-Tungus peoples and made it into a "label" to be stamped on all animistic religions and disregard other peoples culture/religions.

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  3 года назад +1

      This is true and you're right to define animism and shamanism as different terms. While many things are animistic, shamanism is used to talk about people who never even call themselves a shaman, like the curandaros/ Western culture likes things in black and white.

    16:11 I have a small house with a small iron wood stove right in the center. In America we call it a Cape Cod style home. You can really feel how the stove is the spiritual heart of the home.

      sounds lovely. The living fire is always a sacred place. Such a shame that most homes don't have them.

    My dad always had a horse shoe above the door. Nice to see yours above the hearth.

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  3 года назад +2

      Yes, lucky horsehoes :) The one above my hearth is for my Hob to sit on, it's inverted so he can have a seat .

    • @ericduffield524
      @ericduffield524 3 года назад

      Please explain: In America, we do tack horseshoes above the front door. But, we put the upright so "good things" don't flow out. What is a "Hob"? Thanks for the video.

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  3 года назад +2

       @Eric Duffield A Hob is a Hobgoblin in Yorkshire, also known as Brownies in Scotland. different names different places.. it's the house elf, and yes, although normally you keep the horseshoe upright tradition says your brownie sits on the pothook, or if you don't have one you hang a horseshoe upside down for him to sit on.

      thank you..oh yeah... sadly I was never sent promised contract from Wolfenhowle press, though she was pretty quick to offer one in the first place, so it would seem that fell through, and then Covid happened and things got delayed.. thought about self publishing, but that also is on a back burner. Something I will try to get sorted or possibly publish as an ebook x
