Trick I use instead of digging a dedicated hole for the 2 star, is I use a silver mine pit. Then I just make it deep enough and trim the edges so they cannot get out. When I jump in the pit the wolves follow, then just have to keep enough stamina to jump out, or walk around defending until I can build enough.
Idea for pen building: stone stairs that face inward. The wolves can't get out, but any badguys that aggro will walk into the pen to get destroyed. Keeps all the loot in one place too.
I know this is an older video but hopefully this will help someone. I failed to start the taming process during the night on my 2 star. I stayed within sight of him for an entire day and he didn't despawn. Even when he was calm during the day he would not start tamomg until the next night but ultimately did tame.
I use the pit method. But instead of pushing them in, build a wood walk way over the pit. lead them out onto it, jump off and quickly destroy the walk way. They fall right in.
I have about 30 wolves that roam free around my base. When I'm in the base they kill and eat everything that spawns (necks, boar, deer etc), so they have a lot of pups. The pups have populated the 3 biomes I have near my base (meadow, mountain and forest), and I leave them to roam, except if I need to repopulate my pack after raids. I just go for a run around the 3 biomes and collect enough wolves to replenish the ones at home. When I can be bothered I do a run around my base and collect all the kill spoils. I never run out of raw meat, skin, eyes etc. Of course this was before the new wolf raids. Now I have rebuilt my walls, lol.
Pits are the easiest and safest measure if you build a 3 or 4 (depends on size of pit) long 2x2 floor panel kind of Plank (like a pirate ship, walking the plank) from one edge out over the pit. Lead a wolf out onto it, jump across to safety and quickly hotkey your hammer and unbuild part of the section so the wolf falls in. I usually put a ladder pre built in the pit in case I fall in so I can run up and jump out as yes it does get hectic occasionally. Lots of useful things in this video!
If you have a dug pit you can jump in and they will follow you in without pushing them in. May have to jump out and in a time or two to keep agro, either that or just harpoon them and haul them into the pit. great guide.
@@quicksandriggs I never found sitting in the pit to work very well but jumping up close to them so they try to attack and dropping back in gets them to slip off and fall in especially if the pit isn't too deep
0:10 just minding my own business... " if I forgot something say it in the comments" 2 star wolf's only spawn in the dark 2 star wolf's will only try to escape from you if it's nearly daytime 1'2' and 0 star wolf's like to eat Necktails,Deermeat, boarmeat, lox meat
Nope, roofing the wolf pen shouldn’t cause any issues. Not sure how long the roofing will protect from drakes, but the taming and breeding process should operate normally.
@@quicksandriggs Thanks. Added a wood floor with core wood supports on top of an old silver mine adjacent to a sunken-grave turned base. I'm topping with paving stones for durability. Just caught 4 no-stars from a wild hunt event. We'll see. Another tip: while waiting to tame, sneak around the walls, and up your sneak skill.
Also, sneaking into a wall in comfort, too about 3 minutes to level from sneak 37 to 38, and used about 420 stamina (my full bar was ~150)/ Too bad 'Q' doesn't let you auto sneak. you need to keep the 'w' key down.
Actually, the safest way to catch a wolf is to make a 1*1 floor up on a tree with 45' stairs to go up. Make a hole below the tree and cover it with 2*2 floor. When you have aggro-ed the wolf, just climb the sfairs and wait until the wolf step on the 2*2 floor. Once that happened, destroy the 2*2floor using hammer and voila.. You have captured a wolf.
Nothing should tame while it is aggressive/frightened but it becoming agitated simply pauses the tame process and once it calms down, it should continue where it left off (provided it still has food)
Can a 2 star wolf spawn on any mountain biome, reguardless off altitude? I have a home on a low mountain biome (no silver vains) and have never seen a star(ed) wolf there. So, is it just random chance? I've come across 1 and 2 stars on much higher mountains...I just wasn't interested in building a home there.
I can't give you a guaranteed answer on that, but in my experience, yes. It seems to me there is maybe a 2% chance of any wolf spawn being a 2 star (approximately) and based on my own experience and what I've read, that spawn can happen in any mountain biome that wolves spawn.
Dumb question; I just started playing and caught a 0 star wolf, so I have to feed it while I'm in game every 10 minutes? And will it die of starvation if I'm logged out for a long time?
It will not die (from starvation) it being fed just allows it to become tamed and reproduce once tamed. And it will only tame or reproduce while you are in the area. You can throw multiple pieces of food on the ground and it will eat them once it’s hungry, so you don’t have to come back to it every 10min.
I was exploring when I came across a wolf the hard way. I had just spotted a burial chamber and I was trying to find the second boss' map location and all of a sudden I was dead lol. It didn't make any noise and I just saw it running over my dead body. I was only on day 45 on my first playthrough
You don't miss anything, you say all we must know about taming wolves. Good jod ;)
I'm glad I got it all!

The devs decided they needed to even the playing field against your wolves!

Harpoons a good idea! I sat in a pit a couple times for awhile and they never came down to me...Maybe I'm just unlucky! :P

2 star wolf's only spawn in the dark

It takes 30 minutes to tame a wolf
I'd recommend yoosing iron armor for taiming a wolf
Ok I don't know every thing about Wolfs so I typed everything I know at least I think

Yeah. They have to be in render distance. About 150 meters

Does the meat need to be cooked??
Raw meat. It’s been awhile since I did the research for this, but I’m almost certain they will not eat cooked meat of any kind.
How do you give a wolf a command?
I don't believe you can, outside of follow.
Three mountain biomes, & i havent seen a wolf yet. Plenty of hypothermia deaths though.
