Thanks for this great tips. I'm do it much simpler by accident. When I'm put 2 stars wolf into the pit, there's another wolf tag along. Best and most detailed tutorial ever! 👍 Especially the part about despawning and the actual IRL time needed to tame a two star is extremely helpful (am playing solo so will have to be very well prepared)
This video has aged like wine, it still works perfectly. I followed his tutorial while he was in the trap I made on the ground, I managed to take him to a nearby hut to breed at the night. Now I just need to have my two puppies and take them to the base. However, I can say that I didn't have to wait 2 hours near the wolf, I just left food and continued playing normally, and coming back using a portal periodically to see how the process was going. It didn't despawn at any point so the method is still viable. I just love this game. Thank you a lot, have my like
So does the original 2 star wolf still despawn at daytime? I've heard that u can go about playing & come back periodically to check on the tame via portal, does that for sure work? Does the wolf also tame during the day now? And lastly can u sleep to pass time on the tame? My thought was to make a temp house with a bed right beside the tame. Excellent video. You have good, clear speach and pacing along with a lot of detailed info. Many tubers start talking really fast, rushing when they feel they are making too long of a vid. I prefer the detail and the lack of speed talking! Just last night, we encountered our first 2 star. I had a tamed 1 star run off into the mountains when I told him to follow. Incredibly frustrating task. In 6 hours of hunting I've only seen one 2 star wolf when its pack ambushed and killed me at the crack of dawn and then despawned.
@@splitsec6760 I just tested it out after I got my two puppies. Went to sleep with the original tamed starred wolf nearby, and when I woke up he was still there.
Very nicely explained an helpful video. I don't see it as a bug though that the 2-star wolf you tame runs away during daytime. Makes sense that only those bred in captivity do not have instinct that makes the original one return to it's old habits (ruleset). I actually love it that this dynamic is in the game. They only need to make it more immersive than it just despawning.
I did things a little differently, and perhaps a little more difficult, but it does make the taming part of the process _significantly_ easier. What I do is I cut into the side of the mountain rate into the neighbouring biome at the foot of the mountain, so that it's a sheer Cliff, with three sides being Rocky terrain, and the bottom being roughly ground level. I then raise the terrain to make a u-shape. From there, I put up stone walls and Foundation inside the U-shape, will leaving the very bottom bare, and building a stone wall on the open side, leaving a 1-2 gap for me to run through (but they can't), plus a 2x2 feeding hole 2 blocks up. At the top of the Trap, I add a wooden gangplank (like a pirate ship, Arr...), and I run on to it with the Wolves chasing me on it. From there, I use my building Hammer to break the end, and we all fall in the hole of the same time. Even if I die, if I have a bed on the other side of the wall, I can respawn and start taming. What I often do is have a fully enclosed room on the other side of the Trap, complete with fireplace, bed, chests, anything I need in the event I screw up any to bail my corpse out. Of course, this is far more time-consuming to set up, and it leaves you with only one trap to put your wolf in, but what it takes up in time for set up, saves you from getting killed during the night while waiting to tame the wolf in question. Not to mention it protects the wolf from getting damaged from other creatures, such as stone golems. That being said, considering I've only had luck with one stars, and I want to go further away from Spawn to see if I have better luck, I may use your approach instead. Thank you!
thanks so much for the video it was very informational and your pleasant to listen to you are not screaming in my ears and talking 100 miles an hour like everything is panic mode like so many youtubers do these days, i cannot even tollerate watching half of them bc of that lol. thanks for being chill lady :)
I wish I had found this video before trial and error on my part. I too realized its easier to dig a pit and they cant break it. I build a small shack nearby to sit it out and I just go AFK. I also covered my pit with planks just in case something would attack or the night spawn would despawn. I was not sure if daylight caused the despawn or just the time. I did not realize it was me being nearby that prevented the spawn. I left both my wolves I found in the pit until I had two spawns and that was pure luck. I went to bed and woke up with a few wolves. Ran them to my village. Now if I can just get them to shut up a bit. Great video!
You could use the harpoon to get the wolf into the house during the day. Also you could start with the 2 star wolf and once it is in the pit just lure another no star wolf during the day into the same pit and breed them in the pit once both are tamed.
Thought that too. I dug two separate pits and tamed them apart, then got the no star into the two star pit, built a roof for drake protection and bred my pups in there.
Amazing In-depth wolf taming video guide! Couldn't have been easy to put all this info and footage together, thanks for all your time and hard work (and that of your friend also), moreover, your explanations were comprehensive and thorough. Thank you! ***EDIT*** - Finally did it, and thank you again! My original star wolf never despawned after taming, perhaps they fixed that bug since? Also i built a small hut with bed in that sweet zone near the pit so i could sleep the nights away (and still be taming the wolf) and speed the process up a bit, (thankfully) the wolf was still there each morning, a gamble, i know.
How have I not seen more of your channel? This is very clear and informative. I love you repeat the important stuff a few times so that forgetful or easily-distracted folks like me can still get the info. Thank you for this! (Also, it's nice to meet another gamer gal. o7)
I spent many frustrating hours burning through health potions and repairing wooden walls, begging the wolf to eat. If only I watched this first... could have knocked out some netflix smh
What if you make a little shack right next to the pit so you can sleep, would that cut down on the real world time investment? Or do they not make taming progress when you sleep?
@@lukec7525 Patch notes for update 0.148.6, dated March 23, 2021, state, “Night-spawning wolves should be easier to tame now (should stop trying to run away & despawn after starting to tame).”
@@seeshellgaming6883 What makes them different from your regular wolf? My (limited) experience of all the animals is that the more stars they have, the more you can harvest from them, but that doesn't seem to apply to wolves because they are pets / companions. What am I missing?
I got lucky finding my 2 star on the 4th night checking my wolf spawn locations. I'm excited now that I have 2 puppies with 2 stars. Thank you for your video 😘
With this I can help you. They spawn at day too, but not so easily. I catched 2 of them at night, tamed them. They do not disappear from the pen, because I put a workbench in there. The workbench keeps the boars as well as their food from despawning after the 3600 seconds real time pass. Real good source of meat for wolf breeding. You just have to make sure the pen or animal enclosure doesn't pass over the workbench's radius, not even the slightest bit.
We took over one of the mini stone castles in the snow as a mini outpost and wolves spawn really nearby, I might dig one of these pits nearby and just chill in there for a few nights. Great video thx
@@SpaceApe020 I guess it isn't quite the same your right, but it is only for the first wolf. once you get that one locked in you can mass produce 2 star wolves at base. I have a steam community post made showing how to do it, im trying to bring it to more people attention. I was able to do it solo so its possible
You should be able to leave a tombstone by the pit if needed and then come back to the 1 or 2 star. I have had this happen with a 2 star Fuhling that spawned at night, i logged for work and came back 8 hrs later and he was still guarding my corpse. Pretty sure the tombstone acts as a 'player' and keeps local spawns active.
@@Nikoli420 When you log off it saves the world, including the mobs nearby. The issue addressed in this video is that if you continued to play the game and went away from the area it would despawn. Logging off is not the same as continuing to play and moving away from the area - hope this helps.
Great info here. Been trying to find 2* wolves in the largest mountain range on the map where I just so happen to have my main base on the foothills. But no luck after hours of searching. I didn't know the likelyhood increases at night. I also didn't know they will despawn during the day.
that is actually what we thought as well at the time. it doesn't hurt since it only cost 10 wood. apparently though, the devs did say that they fixed the wolves despawning...
When taming a 2 star wolf at night I slept and came back to find nothing. They despawn when you sleep. But build the shack for safety, just don't place a bed/workbench/fire down so you dont trigger a raid.
@@skullwakkah6930 - the 1 and 2 star also seem to despawn if you are out of visual range for a short time. I had a normal wolf nearby and the tamed 2 star despawned in the short time it took me to bring the other over.
You don't want to build anything that will attract agro from anything wandering around. You've got to just stay in sneak, preferably in visual range of the wolf. Anything in the mountains can wreck a wood shack quickly and if you attract skelis or golems, the wolf will agro on them, preventing taming progress. Your best bet is to just stay in sneak, slightly off the taming pit where you can still see the wolf, but he's not getting alerted by you.
A very elaborated and efficient explanation, although I'm not sure the part of "How to get those Wolves off the Ship" was covered. Although, from what you mentioned regarding the wolves attacking enemies had they been taken through the narrow river, it sounds like they can either follow you off the ship or stand on it whilst it's being destroyed. Would love to know the answer.
Summary: 1) Set up portal near mountain biome, but outside of it. 2) Find where the Wolves spawn 3) Dig deep pits that can trap Wolves but you can still sprint out of 4) Find a 0 star Wolf in the day, drop it in the pit, feed it raw meat, crouch and stay in the area until it is tamed, then move Wolf to near the portal 5) Find a 2 star Wolf at night, tame it, don't leave the area as it will despawn the wolf, 4 days in total 6) Wait 1 more night, and move the Wolf at night to the portal, breed it with 0 star Wolf to get 2 star Wolf that will not despawn The Night Time 2 star Wolf will run off into the distance to despawn during the day, no matter what you do, so keep it trapped in the pit until night time, and only move it during night time 7) Move the 2 2star Wolves onto a Longship to transport them. Portals do not work
back in the day in ARK official servers, it would take upwards of 12 hours IRL to tame a larger dino and it was genuinely painful. Do not recommend btw
Great video and great info! I suggest you write a script for these videos to avoid repeating yourself too much. The whole star wolves spawn better at night thing was said like 10 separate times during the video

If you build a house and go to sleep, that counts as a fulls day cycle. Saving you a lot of time.
you sure the wolf wont disappear when you wake up?
wanted to be sure before i tried and dont wanna lose my 2 star tame because i went to bed LOL
@@splitsec6760 you don’t lose it, at least I didn’t. Just make sure you stay close enough.
@@splitsec6760 I just tested it out after I got my two puppies. Went to sleep with the original tamed starred wolf nearby, and when I woke up he was still there.
@@pomkee thanks for confirming
@@splitsec6760 no problem! I saw your comment and figured I’d give it a try once I already had my puppies to be safe lol
They only need to make it more immersive than it just despawning.
yeah probably not a bug but when this came out genuinly thought it was. but yeah love the process and very complicated. those wolves are worth it.
Its easier to sneak around animals you're taming by staying downwind from them. (The arrow in the bottom left of mini-map shows wind direction).
never knew this, super important info
@@thewhitemask Wind has no bearing on aggro, this myth has been debunked
Thank you!
Tip: If you parry the wolf for a few moments you can push it into the trap so you don't have to risk dying. Happy Afterlife!
thanks so much for the video it was very informational and your pleasant to listen to you are not screaming in my ears and talking 100 miles an hour like everything is panic mode like so many youtubers do these days, i cannot even tollerate watching half of them bc of that lol. thanks for being chill lady :)
thank you. lol
Very comprehensive, detailed vid. Thank you for the great info!
thank you for your support.
Great video!
thank you for your support and good luck
AMAZING very helpful video! Can't wait until I get a 2 star wolf army.
Excellent video. Excellent narration. Great job guys.
dam i wish I had more time to session this game with you guys. Work and juggling two other games is brutal haha. That base is looking epic.
Lifes crap mate haha game is so epic tho, more so in the late game
no worries oldskool. Thanks a lot man
"Travel it with ship"
Very helpful video! Thanks for making it!
You could use the harpoon to get the wolf into the house during the day.
Also you could start with the 2 star wolf and once it is in the pit just lure another no star wolf during the day into the same pit and breed them in the pit once both are tamed.
Ah, good tip with the pit breed!
Won't the tamed Wolf kill the second one?
Wow...a solid guide no fuckin around just facts. Thanks!
no fuckin around? lol - just repeating the same info a gazillion times, just in case you forgot after 10 seconds xD.
How have I not seen more of your channel? This is very clear and informative. I love you repeat the important stuff a few times so that forgetful or easily-distracted folks like me can still get the info. Thank you for this!
(Also, it's nice to meet another gamer gal. o7)
heck yeah. I appreciate your support.
I spent many frustrating hours burning through health potions and repairing wooden walls, begging the wolf to eat. If only I watched this first... could have knocked out some netflix smh
i was expecting copper and i found Black Metal! this video is amazing! thank you sooo much!
What if you make a little shack right next to the pit so you can sleep, would that cut down on the real world time investment? Or do they not make taming progress when you sleep?
This is smart, if someone ends up testing this let us know.
The information you provided in this video is unbelievably amazing thank you!
thank you for your support
Mannn, the abyssal harpoon would help you a ton in this situation!
hmm, has this been tested yet? Game science says its needed
@@jessicaskelton3958 I actually just tested this an hour ago. You can 100% harpoon wolves, which can come in handy big time :)
@@dallas5361 Does it help with the despawn issue?
@@jessicaskelton3958 i wouldn't take the risk of running out of stamina and losing it given how long it takes to tame them..
I hope they don't add in-breeding problems and Prion Diseases to the game
EXCELLENT content. good tips on the two star thing, I wasn't aware of the night time limitations or the despawning. THANKS.
The wolf ran off to get some cigarettes or something
After you tame the two star have the second player go bring the normal wolf to the hole
Until a deathsquito comes in and wipes your pack out like it’s nothing... I’m still salty
The father wolf didn't despawn, he just went out for a pack of cigs 😂
LMFAO!!! that is too good
The last patch fixed the bug on taming the two-star wolf. Maybe y’all could update this video.
How so? Please explain
@@lukec7525 Patch notes for update 0.148.6, dated March 23, 2021, state, “Night-spawning wolves should be easier to tame now (should stop trying to run away & despawn after starting to tame).”
True.
@@geektome4781 Thanks for mentioning it!
Thank you for the info. I'd be furious if I finally tamed one and then it despawned and didn't know about this
these two star wolves are huge omg
they are nice to have as well.
Any tips for doing the same thing for a 2 star boar?
Are they found at night too, and do they have the same bug?
With this I can help you. They spawn at day too, but not so easily. I catched 2 of them at night, tamed them. They do not disappear from the pen, because I put a workbench in there. The workbench keeps the boars as well as their food from despawning after the 3600 seconds real time pass. Real good source of meat for wolf breeding. You just have to make sure the pen or animal enclosure doesn't pass over the workbench's radius, not even the slightest bit.
What would a 1star and 2 star boar make?
@@Sean3D2Y They make either a 1 star or 2 star piglet.
@@birch98 ok. Thanks. Just bred them.
We took over one of the mini stone castles in the snow as a mini outpost and wolves spawn really nearby, I might dig one of these pits nearby and just chill in there for a few nights. Great video thx
nice! good luck with taming yourself a good level wolf
I hope the only night time taming is a bug to be fixed

This was a really helpful vid
Are the one-star wolfs bugged aswell?
Edit: Yes they are. De-spawn in daylight if you get to far away.
Only if you found it at night or all 1star wolves, even the ones you find in the day?
@@Ironbuket
That I'm not sure of.
I've only tamed at night.
@@bongfuhrer if you breed the wolf immediately after taming it the pup should keep the stars and not despawn
It takes so long tame a 1 star wolf, and it die from a fire pit in the house...like bruh
best wolftaming vid i found so far. cudos!
Hah my friend has Tamed a troll! It is only as tame as it can't see you though...
Will placing a workbench in the vicinity of the taming pit help against wolf dispawning? Cause normally workbenches prevent items despawning...
that is actually what we thought as well at the time. it doesn't hurt since it only cost 10 wood. apparently though, the devs did say that they fixed the wolves despawning...
This is why I’m happy there are console commands. I don’t have two hours to sit in a game to tame a wolf
Woaw that lil' wolf is so cuuuute I definitely want one too :) thanks for that clearly explained video!
no problem
when taming for 2 hours can u build a shack to sleep in and build a fire?
you need the night cycle to play out for as long as possible.. you cant sleep through the day, so it would be absolutely pointless to make a bed
Some very solid info there Wolf Whisperer!
I hope our video was Extremly helpfull... Never heard someone say that phrase before
well i hope it was
Also kinda funny that u say:" thats pretty much it" like if the whole process didn't take like 8 hours or so haha, still awesome vid very detailed
It was extremely helpful!
Would love to know the answer.
they literally just run off the ship.
and here I thought ARK breeding was a lot of work....
Great video though :)
thank you
Summary:
1) Set up portal near mountain biome, but outside of it.
2) Find where the Wolves spawn
3) Dig deep pits that can trap Wolves but you can still sprint out of
4) Find a 0 star Wolf in the day, drop it in the pit, feed it raw meat, crouch and stay in the area until it is tamed, then move Wolf to near the portal
5) Find a 2 star Wolf at night, tame it, don't leave the area as it will despawn the wolf, 4 days in total
6) Wait 1 more night, and move the Wolf at night to the portal, breed it with 0 star Wolf to get 2 star Wolf that will not despawn
The Night Time 2 star Wolf will run off into the distance to despawn during the day, no matter what you do, so keep it trapped in the pit until night time, and only move it during night time
7) Move the 2 2star Wolves onto a Longship to transport them. Portals do not work
5 min Video :D
Got two, came back a day, and they're both dead. :(
So sad to hear that.. Always have a couple safe in a roofed pit inside your base so that doesn't happen. I hope you have better luck next time

This was a great complete tutorial, thanks.
I just missed how you get wolves to follow you, but i assume you do that by just petting a tame wolf.
also 2 hours real time? omg
Some of the tames in ARK in the early days would be more than double that time. But it's still a lot of work.
back in the day in ARK official servers, it would take upwards of 12 hours IRL to tame a larger dino and it was genuinely painful. Do not recommend btw
