So i was doing some testing. You can actually start the primary and secondary combos another way. No need for block, jump, or crouch. Just start with 1 single primary swing. Then go into the combo with Block + Primary, then secondary and dodge spam (for big bigga boom combo) just like you would normally do for the combos. It means you can run at enemies and initiate attacks without having to block or jump first.
I wrote a C# program that intercepts keystrokes and performs specific key combos on time. I mapped the Q key to perform a forward roll, and the Z key to a left roll. I'll have to map these key combos to my program. To note: My dexterity is bad due to neurological issues, so I have to do this to play games in general.
Very cool video! There are some trickier secondary combos with the knife as well - if you wait a bit before holding down the power attack button, you get a six-hit combo that does 1,1,1,3,3,3, similar to the sword's secondary power combo with an extra hit. There's also a super-efficient four-hit combo with three triple damage hits (1,3,3,3) but I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it reliably. Since you're skilled enough to pull off the jump power combo (which I'm horrible at) I bet you could do those just fine.
The latter I've never even heard of!! That's wild, do you have some sort of link to a tutorial or something? Great stuff, I appreciate the input :D every time I think I've learned them all, I hear of something else that's possible, haha.

This is so awesome! I’ve gotten to the Mistlands and never known this existed, I’ll need to try it out. I wish you had something to diagram what mouse buttons/keys you’re clicking when, but how you worded it will probably make more sense when I do it myself!
Glad I was able to help!! Once you've practiced them a bit, I would definitely suggest figuring out the best times to use them, and against what enemies. Some enemies have difficult attacks patterns to pull these off on, while others can be difficult to simply because their attacks are quick. Often it can be good to try and get off some form of combo after you bait out an attack. Regardless, these are really cool and can be a definite boon to your journey. :) Onward, to the Mistlands, Viking! Skål!

Some stuff i learned while trying this out: 1. if you hold block, primary attack, and secondary attack and the hold w and spam dodge, you do an extra 2 triple damage swings that can be chained together (sword only). 2. with most weapons, if you hold primary and secondary attack at the same time while having almost no stamina, you continuously do an attack that deals no damage and you have complete movement control during. 3. My friend can do an animation cancel that lets him do triple damage sword swings faster than the knife can attack, but wont tell me how. Edit: he told me how, you need to bind dance to something, then spam whatever you bound dance to while tapping sword secondary attack, and with good timing, you can swing very fast
Thank you, this is awesome :) I appreciate you sharing. There are so many absolutely wacky things you can do between attacks and movement abilities in this game.
Amazing video, but a very important piece is missing. In a solo world these are friggin hard to pull off and can easily lead to death especially if there are more than one enemy which is true most of the time. On the other hand if you play coop these combos are overwhelming when someone else has the aggro of mobs. Thanks for the cool breakdown of every combo!
Glad you enjoyed, and I totally get where you're coming from. The intent was to share the combos and have people practice them for themselves, but these absolutely are not for every situation. They're almost always worth using when melee-ing bosses, and some enemies you can stagger quicker with these. I guess I decided to leave it up to the player to realize when they're worth using or not, as I wouldn't have been able to cover every conceiveable instance as to when they are or aren't worth using. I really appreciate the feedback!!
Yea, there are alternative 1-2 hit methods as well, which is what i use. And you get even more when combining with a parry (epecially knife). Knife+shield animation canceling attack is godly early game. So this video is missing a lot of alternative uses, but i guess if you get the core concept (which will be difficult from this too fast paced spam-rant video), you can figure out other alternatives.
Video was well structured thorough and well paced. Your complaints are your own. With a little practice I was able to implement all the combos he laid out here. This vid is top tier valheim instruction.
Damn that's pretty cool, I've mastered it quick. Skoll and Hati is pretty insane with the secondary power combo. Almost like a Elden Ring power stance combo.
Now try using staff to parry, switch to skill and hati (though once in mistlands, skoll and hati isn't as good as other elemental damage weapons) for extra big hit animation cancel combo. it's insane damage.
I used these with my solo run using knives. That’s where I got the most practice, but I really only did the jump combo consistently. I need to try the other ones
I think the jump combo and block jump combos are the best overall since they can be used while moving around. The stationary combos without jumping are slower but probably good to use with a shield.
I'm glad to see a more in-depth guide to these techniques. I keep trying to find more interesting mechanics in Valheim, and this was my biggest find. It's a shame the new dual-axes in the Ashlands work so poorly with this combo, though I highly recommend using the dual knives from Mistlands with it. You can get some ridiculous damage numbers if you get the timing right.

With all the weapons u can spam the primary attack until u run out of stamina. for example with the battle axe u can do the second swipe of the combo over and over until your out of stamina. Or u can do the same second hit combo into a double down over head for 2 hits of 3x damage combo ender!
Nice work, bro. Is cool, bad too risky,. If you a at swamps, around a potential mutch moor mobs and combo feld, you are a second death. I have a normal combo in with the Love. :D
Something worth noting and revisiting is the Krom and potentially other slower weapons if any came out in ashlands. Holding the attack buttons was never REALLY part of the equation and more to add simplicity. Attempting to do a regular power combo with the Krom while tapping to attack instead allows you to negate the slow windup of the first attack for a bit of extra DPS. effectively allowing you to do 2 fast hits into the third hit instead of having to restart the combo.
To be fair, I've probably not given Krom enough testing, as it's far from my favorite weapon type. I'll definitely give this a try! That does sound rather useful.
I found out that you dont need to start with blocking it can be also done in that way that you first attack and right at the end you hold attack and block to perform the hidden combo also in my opinion it is more forgiving than with the block. Just tested it on faster weapons it is easier to pull of and also when you do it this way you dont need to hold down block you can just click it and hold just the attack i have tested it
It blew my mind when I first learned about these, haha. They require just enough intentional precision that it would be difficult to learn how to do them yourself if you ever managed to accidentally pull one off!
Is there a practical use for these extended combos outside of boss fights? They're really good for damage output but I feel like they might take too long and I would just get hit before I could finish the combo.
It all depends on the weapon that you are using and the enemy you are fighting. They are best to use between enemy attacks. So let's say you're fighting a Seeker Soldier. Bait out his stomping attack, then sprint behind him, do a quick jump combo, and you'll do more damage than normal. Also in general, you are more likely to put a monster into stagger if you can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. I can't list out every situation where these are useful, but in general there are definite uses in the game for them other than bosses (although they absolutely shine on bosses).
@@PendragonTheNinja Cool, thanks. Great idea with the jump combo and the seeker soldier! I plan on trying that when I get to the Mistlands in my current playthrough! :)
Also I can see myself using these on the harder difficulties a lot. It's pretty common that even after a good parry, you still aren't doing enough damage due to the reduced damage output to kill them in that single parry. With these combos that would now be a lot more realistic. The problem is that sometimes, and especially on very hard, parry is often impossible when following standard progression since things do too much damage lol

nonsense, 90% of combo attacks will NOT work because mobs move, dodge and will strike back with combos, this is not a GOD MODE game where you can calmly beat mobs. Nobody needs combo attacks, they are impossible, everyone plays through Shield Parry! in the game it is enough to parry and deal damage in return! It's safer than dying trying to perform a combo.

nonsense, 90% of combo attacks will NOT work because mobs move, dodge and will
strike back with combos, this is not a GOD MODE game where you can calmly beat mobs. Nobody needs combo attacks, they are impossible, everyone plays through Shield Parry! in the game it is enough to parry and deal damage in return! It's safer than dying trying to perform a combo.
Wow can u speak any faster? U made that so hard to follow
Sorry to hear that, it was not my intention! I say this to help, the 0.75x speed option honestly might help a bit. 0.5 might be too slow, unsure.
Nah your pacing was perfect. Cheers for the video!@@PendragonTheNinja
