As Austrian I approve! If you are in Vienna make sure to have Sachertorte in cafe Sacher just beside the opera. If you want to taste an authentic hearty meal and can fit it somehow into the itinerary please visit the Schweizerhaus restaurant (with beer garden) in the middle of the Prater (the fun park, tube station: Praterstern). I'd have tons more tips but that would get too long for this comment. Can't wait to see the wrap up of this trip!
Very nice. Duo-chrome. Those two colors COMPLIMENT each other very well. They must be basically directly across each other on the color wheel because you achieved some very neutral darks there. Cool and warm choices and all the grays in between. Plus the benefit of a limited palette which ensures you don't have a chaotic color scheme. The reflections make it look more like a body of water so that was nice.
Those are the most captivating mountains I've seen yet in watercolor. I've avoided painting mountains since I stopped using oils. I was procrastinating a painting of Mt. Rainer for my best friend, but your painting inspired me to get started. ❤️
🎶 The weather outside here is frightful 🌨❄, but in your painting it's so delightful...🎶...the perfect antidote to a cold and snowy blustery day! Your painting is beautiful Thanks for taking me away! 😊
Just beautiful! I live in Georgia, USA and know I’ll never visit all these wonderful places you take us to see! This castle in Austria is breathtaking. I love the mountains in the background. Thank you for taking us on a world tour!
Hi Paul thank you so much for this watercolour Wednesday. I'm suffereing with my back this week. I look like Quasimodo going round the place all week in agony, 😅 so this painting really cheered me up this evening. It's gorgeous and with only two colours. Amazing. Pleased do more of these because the idea of mixing colours and learning how and what to mix really appeals to me. There is so much in this painting it's hard to believe you only used two colours throughout all of it, only for the fact I'd seen you use only two colours with my own two eyes. And the painting is actually better than the reference photo too. It's much prettier. The blue in the mountains behind the castle warms it up and makes it look so fresh and beautiful. You can almost breathe in that mountain air. Looking forward to next Watercolour Wednesday. God bless you Paul and Margo. Susan 🎉❤ 🙏
@ArtbyPaulClark Thank you Paul for both the help and get well wishes. They're very much appreciated. I hope my back is better but there has been a an element of humour in the pain. I saw 80 and 90 Yr olds zip past me in the street while I was trying to do my shopping and left me miles behind. And my cab driver just fell about laughing when he saw me trying to get into the car. About 5 attempts after, I finally managed to get in, and I was in fits laughing as well. What it must have looked like!😅😅😅He knows what its like cos his back isn't great either. So he had great patience with me. Just as well because it took me as long to get out of the cab again when I got home! 😅😅So there is a bright side to everything. I'm made of tough stuff so hopefully I'll be ok again soon. Thanks Paul take care. God bless. Susan 🙏😄
Good morning! What a lovely place to visit! I wish I could come. But I’ll have to keep my traveling vicariously through you. lol This tutorial is so helpful! Only two colors! Amazing what you can do with just two colors. Thank you for sharing. I pray you and Margot have a lovely day. 🙏🏻🏰 I don’t mind the singing. Lately my husband has been singing. He’s recently retired. It’s lovely to see him happy and less stressed. ❤ singing is joyful even if it’s out of tune. 😊 Looking forward to many more tunes from you.
Stunning , absolutely Stunning Paul. It was really interesting how the house shadow colors paled once you put the grey on the trees. Your choice of cobalt to be the main color was right. It made the painting more mystical. Looks fairly easy as not much to focus on. We all should be able to have a go at it. Loved all the details and your trees are always spectacular. Shadows to create magic 😍 Just an amazing painting once again Paul. Austria is one of my favourite destinations. Have been there a few times. Took the Sound Of Music tour as well... Kitzbuhl and Innisfall ( house of Swarovski ), Hallstatt are stunning too. Next time you go check them out. Thankyou very much for these lovely tutorials. All the best to you and Margo 💞 Edilweiss 🎉 Till next time 💞🙏💯
Simply stunning!!! As I watched, the painting became more beautiful... thank you Paul!!! Loved a bit of the Austrian folk music!!!😂🎉❤ ... also the Edelweiss moment😊 I sneaked a peak at the Austria trip... wow what an incredible trip!!! With love from a California Gramma ❤️
Hello Paul, I'm one of your many appreciative fans; I treat myself to your tutorials. When I share the results with friends, the reactions are, "Wow! Wait, you did that?!? That's insane!", etc. I feel like an imposter because all I did was follow your directions. How much is really me, and how much is you?
Ohhh my goodness this looks spectacular! The trip too! I love 💕 how you managed to make the light blue of the shadows on the castle look so white when you popped in the darker greys with the trees & smaller buildings. I wasn’t expecting that to happen at first when you put it (light blue castle shadows). I was thinking just leave the white of the paper. Ahhh-ha moment of using the local color for the shading. I’m excited for this tutorial to try & Margot’s Saturday challenge since learning how to achieve this now! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, the process & especially your humor 😊! Always brings joy & a smile to start my Wednesday mornings! Enjoy your day & rest of the week Paul & Margot! 💕
This 2 color exercise was a heck of a lot of fun! Did my own idea about it while trying different ways of expressing “the same old thing”. Thanks for an enjoyable afternoon!
Good afternoon, dear Paul! 2 colours and Magic has happened again! Thank you for sharing your skills in such a lovely funny way! Well done! Greetings from Moldova. Lilia P.S. still waiting for your painting of Moldovan vineyards 😇🍇
Wow, I watch a few watercolour artists but your work, talent, is incredible. I am learning so much, not that I can get anywhere near your finished work, practice makes better 😊 I look forward to every new video you post. Thank you for such amazing inspiration. ❤.
Enjoy the trip to Austria! Your pronunciation of Schloss Ort is spot on! I have no doubt you will enjoy the local beer and wine and don’t forget to try the cakes and pastries! The painting is great as always and reminds me of our last visit there when an opera singer was practicing with the windows open 😂
Absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for your videos!!! Please, make a video about colours - how you choose colours, in what cases you use warm or cold colours, etc! Thank you again!!!
Greetings Paul from down under. Wow absolutely stunning!!! What a wonderful challenge you have given us. This is well out of my comfort zone but youve inspired me to "have a go". Thoroughly enjoyed watching today's tutorial, many thanks. 😊
Thank you Paul for that awesome tutorial. I loved that it was such a complex scene with a clear wow effect once finished but with only two colours so it really helped me focus on my brush strokes skills and wet on wet reflection in water! I greatly enjoyed it Thank you so much
I got in a bit late today, but still managed to get my fix. absolutely love this picture hopefully i will have a go and make it look reasonable. I have to say i love the way you do these lessons, I have seen loads of painters on here but i only follow three now, one other man in this country, { who i know that you Know,} and a lady in America. The reason i follow you is because you do these pictures in a way that people can follow how to do a reasonable picture. loads do them at 900 miles a minute so are not teaching anyone. Thank you so much.
I have been following you for a while and painting along with you. It is not comparable but I learn a lot from it. Sometimes I even make them twice to understand how it works. Besides learning, I enjoy it a lot. Thanks for the easy to follow tutorials and your humor. :) An inquisitive/studious amateur from the Netherlands.
Paul, your art is sublime and your instruction is unparalleled. These are matched only by your always on--point sartorial choices. No one makes a t-shirt fashion statement quite so perfectly as you do. Happy Christmas to you.
Good one, thanks Paul, enjoyed being transported. Lovely painting, so interesting using just 2 colours, will have a go when I feel brave lol. From not so sunny and blinking cold Spain
As someone who learnt how to work with watercolour from your videos, I just bought a bunch of “advanced” colours recently, and will attempt to make this as my first painting with my “grown up” supplies! This is just beautiful 😍
Absolutely beautiful Paul. It takes me back to my trip to Austria last April 2023. Also stayed in the Austria Trend hotel. Went on lovely cruise on river Danube. Ps. Salzburg is beautiful, watch out for the local artists selling their stunning works in the square. I was in my element , loved every minute of my 10 day trip , you will too.
Possibly my favourite piece that you've done - I love working with a limited palette, and this is an outstanding example. The distant mountains, despite appearing slightly understated during painting, really 'pop' and look touchable and the overall effect of atmosphere and depth is superb. Great choice to go with the reflections as well. 👍
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial, Paul! Back in my university years, my English teacher was a huge fan of "The Sound of Music" and we sang "Edelweiss" before each class, 4 mornings a week. A nice song, and a great movie. Memory unlocked :)
When i saw the picture my first reaction was-Daunting!? But, as usual, you just smashed it! A very pleasant relaxed few minutes for me! Thanks so much again,Paul.
Yay!! A new video!!! So beautiful!! Thank you for the instructions!!! I'm giving paintings as Christmas gifts to my children. Two completed (actually, one was chalk pastel) and three to go! I'll hopefully use techniques I have learned from your videos. My grandmother painted, and my mother painted as well, and many of us have their paintings on our walls. Feels good to continue the tradition. Thank you, Paul, again, for keeping us artists encouraged and inspired!!
Good early morning and Happy Watercolor Wednesday, you never cease to amaze ! This turned out phenomenal Paul , I can’t wait to give it a go ! I will have to settle for just painting Austria for now , someday will join you on a trip of a lifetime ! Cheers to you and Margot , thank you for all you do !!
Good morning Paul. Just tuning into youtube on this lovely morning and couldn't help admiring your painting. That gorgeous castle and those awesome seas and mountains!! How thrilling! I also admire how you used only two colors...this makes whole thing look dazzling. Thank you so much and I pray that you have an awesome christmas season...you and your family.🎄👍
Thanks Paul, for the wonderful tutorial. I brought memories of my visits to Austria. Beautiful Vienna and the small villages in the country side will forever remain in my heart. Best wishes on your upcoming workshop. I wish I could be there with you and Margo.
Just came across your video. Schloss Ort is in Gmunden on the Traunsee in Austria where I was born before my parents immigrated to Canada Post ww11. I have many pictures of that little beautiful castle in my photo albums from long ago. You have done a lovely job of rendering it. Thanks for the memories Paul!
Initially, I thought I had stumbled upon a youthful Christopher Plummer singing and strumming his guitar!!!😆 Joking aside, what a really beautiful painting! I thought your colour choice, gave a better appearance, more suitable to a cold country. The photo it was taken from looked a bit too aqua and it gave a warmer vibe. Your painting definitely brought out the Alpine beauty!! Loved it 👍
Hi Paul. Really enjoyed doing this painting and it was a great surprise to see it on RUclips. About 12 years ago, I bought a painting at an auction in Battle, East Sussex. It was called Gmunden by Henry John Yeend King, It is the same view. My son had it on his wall while he was studying at Oxford. It is now hanging in his own home. Strangely, it brings back memories of happy trips to Oxford and visits to the Turf Tavern. Happy New Year. David
Another wonderful tutorial. I hope next year I can catch up with some of these! I really appreciate them. The two colours are such a revelation and I will definitely try this. Thank you Paul.
❤gorgeous! Love the 2 color challenge. Can’t wait to give it a go. Can’t wait to travel to see all these fabulous places too! Thank you as always for the inspiration and wonderful tutorials. And fun videos too 🎼
Ohww..this is so good Paul. With only 2 colours. Thanks to you, i have stopped buying fancy name pigment now. I am learning to stick to 12 colours now.
Good morning Paul, from New Zealand. Wow. That is a stunning painting, and i feel you have taken us all to the next level. And with only 2 colours too. Wow , wow. Wow. I can't wait to give it a go. Thanks for all you do for us and sharing your amazing talent and your fantastic paintings
Hi Paul I am new and I love your videos, I learned so much. Thanks. PS: I am not new I am 65 and have been painting since July/24. Thanks again love MARLA MORAN

David
Cheers David ... I like the sound of the Turf Tavern!
