Paul, I really, really appreciate what you give us here. There is an emotional component to all this, as well as teaching. When I was teaching pigs to sing- I mean people, teaching people to sing- I found that humor was a great, relaxing ingredient; my teachers and coaches always had that quality. Thanks again for helping me through this bizarre time.

I began drawing in graphite painting years ago. I felt like I "could breathe again for the first time." Then something happened and of course, my art was sidelined. Only recently have I learned what caused the issue. I found your videos over the past 2 weeks and have learned so much that would have made my journey far more enjoyable and much easier......... Your techniques give wings to my work and I love them.I've tried some of them. The minimal number of brushes, colors and options are truly helpful, and provide for a meaningful, engaging and successful result. Thank you, so much. Of course I have purchased your book and can't wait for it to arrive. Last wednesday I learned that I have NPH Hydrocephalus and will require brain surgery at the end of this week. Thanks to your upbeat approach and teaching skills, I now that I will be able to paint again and I have something to look forward to when I get home............PS. The book's going with me to keep my spirits high. Again. Bright Blessings and many thanks. Your RUclips channel reached me in Washington state, on the upper west coast of the USA. Hi Laurie, just wondering how you have got on with this as I appear to be having the same problem. I’ve doctored the end of a no.5 brush, tried using different thicknesses of paint, and just seem to score within the painted area (the tree trunk). Outside of the painted area I just seem to have a tiny feint trace of a twig! Paul makes it look so easy...

@@ritacurrie9842 Hi Rita, I didn't have too much luck with the sharpened end of my brush, but I've found other methods that work. I find that using the tip of a palette knife instead of the sharpened end of my brush is a little more successful. Mostly, though, I use a rigger brush or a very small round (like a #2). Happy painting!

First your marvelous work with skies, then this terrific treatment of trees! Again, it's excellent-as is your relaxed, articulate delivery. Sharpening the non-bristle end of the brush to do branches is pure genious and simplicity rolled into one. My only regret is the light-speed of the evergreen segment, where you also dropped any discussion of colors/washes. NOBODY would have grown bored with a real-time treatment of evergreens!

Thanks for that Chris - very helpful 👍. I'm going to do a 'Painting Tree's Volume 2 - so will definitely look into evergreens in more detail. Thanks for the great compliments!

Really enjoyed your video - the humour is certainly appreciated. I purchased your book a couple of weeks ago (Watercolour: Tips and Techniques for the Beginner) and have been working through the lessons. I just finished the bridge picture today and am looking forward to doing the poppies tomorrow although after having watched this I may just practice some trees first. This is a great compliment to your book as there is nothing better than seeing your teacher in action!

After a few demos, I learned a lot, but I wasn’t really happy with myself. And then I started making the tutorials in an album, as you recommended. I still have trouble working with the brush tip, the paint may not be wet enough to pull out the branches. But it’s worth taking them through because I feel like I’ve painted the pictures nicer and easier after that. I really enjoy the videos and the painting. Thank you very much.

I only started watercolor painting at the beginning of lockdown though I’ve wanted to paint with watercolors since I was a child. “Better late than never”. What a blessing to find you, Paul, after all the watercolor videos I’ve been watching. I love the humor, professional tutorials, looseness, playfulness and excellent guidance you provide. Keep making tutorials!!! You’re a breath of fresh air!
