I saw someone painting with a sponge in the art class I went to 20 yrs ago, and have used a sponge ever since. I think it gives a lovely soft, realistic look to the leaves. I could never paint it any other way. This tree is fabulous.

I am starting to paint a piece with a tree and not happy with the foliage, I can’t wait to practice this technique on some scrap paper and implement it into my just started painting. I love the results you get using the cobalt blue for the skies and also the shades of green you mix. They are different from what I have been using, I can’t wait to try that as well. I enjoy your tutorials, and always feel there is so much more to learn. Btw…. I also use a twig for fine lines.
