  • The Wera Bicycle 3/8” Drive Zyklop Ratchet Set is an interesting kit! I picked it up on Tool Of The Day at KC Tool awhile back and got it probably at a better price than even just the ratchet by itself which is what I really wanted. Wera really went all out on this one with the twist lock socket holders for everything and a very secure method of holding everything else as well. It’s turned out to be a lot handier as an actual set than I really first expected. Check it out at the links below and be sure to also check and see what is on tool of the day with KC tool. It changes every day!

    Impressive how much engineering is behind Wera's products. Every detail seems to be covered, even those one didn't think about it!

    I just got the sae 3/8” set and added a 10mm, 15mm, 17mm and 19mm into the set. I gotta say these ratchets remind me of snap on ratchets. Very quiet very nice. The wobble extension also locked if you push the socket down more. The set I have doesn’t have the twist off rail but I’ve also gotten the metric socket sets on the “wera socket belts” and they are amazing, you can bend them and stick them anywhere in your veto bags. Those soft socket rails are twist locks.

    You forgot to mention the Rapidaptor also has that movable sleeve on it that you can grab onto, and the extensions as well as sockets have knurling on them so you can use them by hand if you so desire. 😉

    Nice purchase MC! I do get a bit surprised at the inconsistency of Wera with these sets. I have a standard 3/8 Zyklop set, but it doesn't have the twist lock, but it does have the socket sizes neatly stitched in above each socket. My 3/8" drive deep sockets I purchased did come on a twist lock rail. The 1/2" drive Zyklop socket set does have twist lock holders for the socket.There never seems to be a pattern as to which of their tool sets has the twist lock and those that don't. Still great tools mind you.

    3/8 is a little big and hardcore for bicycle
    Because it allows you to force more torque to the bolts and bicycle bolts don't need that much torque. I think the 1/4 is a better size for bicycle maintenance

    • @francisfaustino
      @francisfaustino 2 года назад +1

      I agree with this. 3/8" is way too big for general bike maintenance especially since this kit doesn't come with any way to measure torque. I built an entire road bike from separate components using mostly a tiny 3.5" hex bit wrench. As far as I can remember, there are only 2 parts (at least on my bike) that uses a 10mm and an 8mm that would probably benefit from a 3/8". But for general bike maintenance, all of the fasteners that are 6mm and smaller are all only 4nm to 6nm torque.

      Well better overkill then under. Frame bearing bolts are big and some go from 30-40nm. Crank bolts can be even 50nm. Crank chinch chainrings 40nm

    I wonder if the twist n lock rails are available by themselves. If so, I will get a drawer load of them. That's ingenious.

    • @three-phase562
      @three-phase562 2 года назад +2

      Yes, you can buy the twist lock rails separately and populated with sockets. They are available as either a fabric base with a clip to hang them from a tool bag or magnetic base to clamp onto a metal cabinet etc. Available in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" drive with the holders in a straight line or in a shorter version with two sets of holders side by side.
      The link is to a UK shop, but gives you an idea what is available. Pretty pricey mind you!

    Most of those sockets are redundant on a bike these days. The highlight of the set is the 10 and 8mm hex sockets but any compitent mechanic will already have those.
