    I have been there, I bought a whole Wera long shank driver bit set just for a long torx. The way we justify these purchases is crazy but I do love that set.

    Very good video. This set is very useful. The zyklop wrench is a great tool. I use the 1/2 inch version.

    I just got this set, and it's awesome.
    The color coding doesn't do anything for this set though. I also don't like that they use different color schemes per type of bit/socket. An 8mm socket has a different color from an 8mm hex. It would be much more convenient if they used a larger and bolder font for the size marking than the dark grey etching on the light grey bit. They're very hard to read. Only the markings on the vinyl band on the sockets are easily readable.

    3m strip caulk is how you normally do this, put it in the socket. But magnetic sockets are great too

  • @ChePennyDK
    @ChePennyDK 2 месяца назад

    I just use a tiny strip off sandpaper, bend it over the top edge of the socket and then press the bolt in the socket for a tight fit, works like a charm.

    Definitely be able to break off some socket head cap screws with those holding types but yeah, leaves me with bad vibes for buttons and countersunks.

    I got the Koken nut-grip sets.
    Their BB’s are held in with 3 wraps of spring wire.
    But the best I have seen is a bit holder I have.
    It has a flat band of spring steel wrapped around the socket to hold the BB’s in.
    Where the band comes together it is a finger joint so the balls can’t escape.
    There’s no name on it. Probably a counterfeit of whoever holds the patent.

    Great video. I wonder if there is any difference in holding function with the sockets at different temperatures. Say at 20F and 120F (e.g. a socket in the sun during a summer afternoon). This would be important for field applications. I personally would have preferred to see metal retention clips.

    • @seano51
      @seano51 2 года назад +1

      Maybe you can get a couple of the Ko-ken holding sockets for a comparison.

    • @bzeug

  • @Micksoffthings

    I would probably made the hole in the metal bigger XD
    and it might help a bit to put electrical tape on the magnet to get it started

  • @simpleman2004
    @simpleman2004 2 года назад

    Take that super strong magnet and put it on the regular extension and it will hold the bolt in place while you start it, then after its started just pull the magnet off, lots easier than what you went through to pull the hold feature socket off. Just saying...

  • @troyladoux1953
    @troyladoux1953 2 года назад +3

    I think people have used tape to hold a nut. Also makes the socket grip tighter. Or use can use just a piece of paper. Just tried it with a piece of paper and it works great and I saved myself $170. Great video though. I'd show you the picture but can't through this medium.

    In a pinch, you can wrap a bolt head in tape, so it wedges in a socket.

    I was a bit disappointed with the heft, it feels thinner and providing less leverage than other 1/4 ratchets.
    I still haven’t put it to use, my tougher 8020 rig is arriving next week to replace the current.
    I’m kinda worried I should switch to the 3/8 ratchet, perhaps with 1/4th adapter. Not sure.

    • @patrickroza3073

      Heft, weight, and "thinness" doesn't have anything to do with torque.

    Is there an advantage of using socket versions of normal bits (Philips, slotted etc) over just normal bits? Or just for convenience when used with the ratchet? Thanks

    • @ian9toes
      @ian9toes Год назад

      Definitely an advantage, I have a similar made up kit for my dirtbike bumbag. With everything being 1/4 square, everything goes on the same rail, and can change from socket or Philips or torx bit all without any need of a bit driver adapter.

  • @twinwankel

    I don't know I would put out $150 for this set just because I wanted the holding function. You can try different ideas to get the bolt to stick to the socket. There are magnetic inserts you can put into the socket. I also have magnetic extensions that do the same. If you don't want magnets then you can just wrap some plumbers tape (teflon tape) around the bolt head and the socket will hold. Just seems incredibly wasteful to buy this unless you are starting out and don't have any 1/4in sets. Of course, in reality, no one starting out would put down this much money for a set like this.

    I was like, what the hell is he removing the bits for, every bit they sell is in there. Well it is nice to live in the metric world. The Wera bits, are all not good for high torque, even the ones without the holes, either use PBS or Stahlwille for that, but the holding function can often be extremely helpful.

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 2 года назад +4

    I just put a little duct tape on the edge of the bolt and a little to the socket, then teist the duct tape into a strand long enough to come out of the hole, one the bolt is in tight enough to stay , pull the tape off. You got zero hillbilly in you. You need more tools
