    I’ve been learning this beautiful stroke for 12 years and still struggle to maintain a good style over more than 50m. When I started I thought it’d be 12 months to master. It would probably have had, but only if I had hired a coach

    • @irenaanna
      @irenaanna  6 месяцев назад +3

      Good style for 50m is still impressive, keep it up! Having someone look at your stroke, even for one or two lessons, and correct it here and there definitely speeds things up.

      @@irenaanna The main point after many years of self-teaching was understanding that the chest press is mainly for getting the ideal position for the next power phase. Arms then push the upper body forward and slightly upward for the recovery. The hips must be up to reduce drag because arms recover over the water (unlike in breaststroke). I still have my personal goal to swim LC 100m under 2 minutes

    You could do some video about a breathing paterns, if you already haven't. Personally, I just can't breath every stroke, I lose momentum so fast. The less I breath, the faster I go. 😅

    • @irenaanna
      @irenaanna  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks, that's a good idea! And yes, if you watch the best swimmers race butterfly, they don't breathe at all for a 50m, for longer distances you need a lot of air though

Now she is doing the same thing just watching me as I can't teach it. Any pointers if I can send a vid

    Your elbows are dropping quite a bit, you got try to get them facing up like your going over a barrell. Also your head needs to go down more, like a weight so your hips go up. Lastly your bending your knees too much creating alot of drag in the water, kick more from hips and hip flexors.

    The fly was a lot easier 50 years ago when I was in my 20s.....

      The engineer side of my personality loves swimming because there is always some thing to work on. My favorite stroke is the over arm side stroke. I do like to be different. Only record was set in 1895 where a swimmer from the UK swam 100 yards in 1:02.5. Freestyle record at that time was 1:01.2. It was dropped from competition prior to the 1900 Olympics in favor of the much slower breast stroke. Breast stroke was more "gentlemanly" because there is less splashing. As far as I am concerned, it is faster than breast stroke, backstroke, and may be able to keep up with the fly. Long axis stroke, and I dropped the scissor kick in favor of the flutter kick, which took 3 seconds off of my 50 yard time in about 3 days. It, unfortunately has been forgotten. I will be doing a video, hopefully this year and will send it to you.

      Thank you for sharing, that's interesting history! I'm an engineer myself, so I can relate to the "always having something to work on" :)

      I never had any degrees in engineering, but engineers, "if it ain't broke, take it apart and fix it anyway." I am always tinkering.....Side stroke gets no respect.....
