Askeladd deserves his own episode, killing the king was the tip of the iceberg. Man searched for a good leader his whole life, got tired and _raised_ his own king since everyone else was too incompetent for him.

Fun fact: Askeladd is actually a character from Norwegian folklore. He's usually characterized similarly to robin hood but coming from nothing, with the name translating to ash child.

Well the one issue I had with Thorfin was how he was a pacifist which I understand the no killing rule, perfectly understand that. That made sense but I did not understand the no fighting rule. He could still fight and defeat individuals with none lethal means. I mean hell the thing that defeated Thorkell was a knock-out punch to the chin. If it can work against him it can work against anyone. That could also be a means for him to change the minds of vikings wanting to fight for entertainment like Thorkell by telling them that if they kill their opponents all the time they will run out of people to fight but if you keep them alive they will get stronger to fight you again and the same vice versa. Just my two cents.

Let's not forget that Askellad went from a bastard son to a trusted son, only for him to murder his dad in his sleep and putting the blame on one of his half-brothers who was later hanged, letting Askellad get away with murder. And this revenge plot took only a little over a year, versus to Thorfinn's decade-long vendetta. Askellad kindly told Thorfinn that over-complicating your revenge is pointless.
He should have snuck him in his sleep after all (though I think that might be an anime original moment).

The meaning behind Thors death is actually a masterpiece. Askeladd didn't want to kill Thors, he HAD to because as a LEADER of Norse Pirates, he would have lost respect from all his crew members. It was revealed in the show later how most of them tried to go behind his back from finding one of his weaknesses as well. Thors realized it as well and he basically indirectly told Askeladd to raise Thorfinn. Askeladd throughout the show started to get more fond of him. But the reason he did everything was to kill the king to get revenge for his family. While doing so, he basically gave Thorfinn the biggest lesson which is that living by the sword will make you die by one. The psychology behind some scenes were immaculate and I happened to pick up on it quite well! It was an amazing show , one of the best to date.

Askelad didn't kill the king to get revenge for his family. He wanted to raise up Canute to bring peace to the Kingdom to protect his Homeland, Wales.
Season 2 has been dope, can't believe some people dropped it because "the main character chooses peace". They missed out on peak character development.

If he did a similar video for season 2 you would have some gardar stuff, thorfinn taking beatings(which I don't really count) and then a massacre. Which if it was formatted the same way then it would only like a 5-8 minute video. If that was plenty for you, cool but it's significantly less than season 1.

Askellad had one of the most depressing childhoods and became the man he was because of that circumstance. People say "You live by the sword, you die by the sword.", but there are people like Askellad were forced into it.
In fairness, its not really a moral judgement for getting into the career. Just a warning to people about the job hazards and telling them its probably a good idea to look for another kind of work if you are lucky enough to have options.

Greatest survival tactic in Vinland saga : avoid anyone with “thor” in their name
This is one of the best animated shows out there. Thorfinn has one of the most scary and intense survival arcs in the entirety of anime.
By the way, the name to this anime is "Vinland".

Thors was the strongest person in that show, it was merely because he chose not to kill anymore that Askeladd got him, well that and the fact his son was taken hostage by Askeladd's 2nd in command. But even still Askeladd was also a savage for most of the show, and more than that, he was smart too. He knew that Thors could've killed them all if he wasn't holding back, it's the only reason he was hired in the first place. Cause the one dude was too scared to actually fight him, cause he thought he'd lose all his men in the fight and maybe die himself. Thorkell is also the 2nd strongest person in the show, dude chucked trees and boulders like it was nothing. Changed sides to fight for the losing side because he thought it'd be more fun, and did a whole bunch of crazy things. The only real downside is that knowing how strong Thors is, and that they basically had to kill him off for the show to even progress because he was literally too strong for anyone to beat, meant he didn't get to stay for more one man army moments. I mean you have to also think how bad any enemies had it when Thors and Thorkell were fighting together against them. Forget needing an army they basically clean house by themselves, you do not want to be on the other side of that tag team.
And the craziest thing about Thorkell is he is 50 years old which means has passed his prime 20 years ago, imagine when he was in his 20s and 30s. My God
