I am just going to start off by saying this is going to be one of the greatest banana puddings you've ever had in your life.
AND it's one of the easiest things you'll ever make - not even an Instant Pot is required for this one! In fact, there's ZERO cooking involved at all!
Inspired by Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding, I just slightly tweaked it so it has a cold milk mixture instead of an ice water one giving it an even fluffier, smoother end result.
When I made this for a party the other day, it went so quickly I barely got to have some myself and at least six people came up to me asking for the recipe. I would be willing to wager that the same will happen to you.

I love how he says "fold" and just stirs it in.
Ive been making this pudding for about 37 years and every time that people try it now they're still amazed by it. My kids expect it at holidays. I kick it up sometimes with extras but it doesn't need anything. Better than the old-fashioned according to my grandmother and was glad that i got a chance to make her something that she enjoyed so well.
We use jacks vanilla wafers.
It's no joke , i made it , my first time ever and it was very good.
I legit made this recipe & when I tell you everyone LOVED the pudding . Mind you this is my first time making or eating pudding.. but this recipe I’m saving it as my go to for Everytime I made banana pudding. Thank you !!
Banana pudding is an old southern dessert!! You've just taken it to a whole nother level!!! Yummy!! 🥰
Made a double batch of this for a company picnic and it was AMAZING! Also, watch out - it makes a LOT!!!
That's perfect for me because I would eat alot of it!
Jeff, I'm happy to see you are branching out with your videos. I've made almost every one of your recipes so far and have not found one yet that was less than outstanding.. This one looks like another Home Run. The way you are going you will be a first year Hall of Famer.
I made this 2 years ago for my husband and he loved it he’s been asking me ever since to make it again. Been looking all over for your channel to remake this receipe. So happy I found it. Making it again for thanksgiving tomorrow
I am amazed and amused by the comments of your guests who have never eaten that banana pudding! There probably is not a Southerner anywhere who hasn’t grown up with that exact recipe - and not so much a recipe as just the way we all know to make no-cook banana pudding. Thanks for sharing, and especially thanks for sharing y’alls reactions....next time tell them it’s a required Southern staple at every gathering! 😉 Enjoy!
MaryK L I didn't realize you could make banana pudding with out instant pudding and whipped cream until I was way older. 🤣 same with cheesecake
Wat can i use for biscuits we dont have nilla wafers in new zealand...
@@loasalesa4507 Digestive biscuit will work
I have to disagree. I never grew up with this recipe for homemade banana pudding. As I stated I make this and it’s really good, but this isn’t the southern homemade from scratch banana pudding I grew up with and continue to make as of this date for every gathering. It is one of my go to recipes and everyone requests the traditional pudding.
If you grew up with that, you are definitely NOT from the South!
Good job. I love this recipe I make it all the time because people love it. They are always asking me to make it. This is banana pudding no matter what others say. I don't like the one with the cooked pudding because I don't like soggy wafers, nor almost cooked bananas. Remember if you make this it is designed for a large group, because of the full sized ingredients you have to use. It hard to make it small. Also it is important to refrigerate to bring everything together, otherwise the ingredients don't mix well. The refrigerated time for the pudding is short because it does not need to be thicken. By the time you whip the cream the pudding mix is ready, you don't want the pudding to be as stiff as the whipping cream. Last note, folding or stirring the ingredients together does not matter you need it to be the consistency showed in the video. This is for the critics that knows nothing about this recipe. Not you, you get an A+ on how you made it. I have been making this recipe over 40 years and it is always a hit and highly requested. And always end up with an empty bowl on the first day of serving. (Must be made in a deep bowl)
I made this last night, and it tastes UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!
It was so good that I made one for my neighbor today !
Your neighbor r too lucky 😷
Tonight will be my 3rd time serving this recipe. I love it. I grew up on HM hot BP. That’s the best. But I prefer the Cold version. This is as close to Magnolia Bakery banana pudding as u can get! Thanks!!
I had to laugh when I came across your channel today 4/20/2020, and seeing this recipe! My husband and I were just talking yesterday about the giant banana pudding trifle recipes that our Grandmothers used to make when we were growing up in the '60's and 70's, also using these same brand vanilla wafers. This one looks almost exactly like how they made theirs, except they had to make full-blown pudding since no instant pudding back then, and that is a pain in the backside. So glad they have it now, so I'm making one of these this weekend!
As a southerner, my Mom made putting from scratch, too, and just alternated pudding, bananas, wafers. I miss her so much - this brought back memories of when I was a kid.
omg I made this for my 11-year-old daughter and she was in heaven she woke up and said she was dreaming about it and needed to get a bowl thanks
I've been using this recipe for about 20 years. I found it in a magazine as part of the Eagles sweetened condense milk ad. It is always delicious and a crowd pleaser!
When I found this recipe on allrecipes.com it has a outstanding rating, because allrecipes.com uses cream cheese
I made this for the first time yesterday for a Superbowl party. It was a huge success! Thanks for the recipe!! 😊
It's so sweet to see your family enjoy the fruits of your labor! I'm on a binge now watching your videos.
I love this guy ! He makes my family so happy 😁 thank you so much for this delicious receipt
My husband loved this!!!! He love's Magnolia's Banana Pudding!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Instead of one huge bowl I'm going to make this recipe & divide it into smaller bowls ... there are only 2 of us & I'd like to try it anyway but we'd never finish a bowl that large without it becoming watery in the fridge!! Looks so yummy!!
@tatubert82...That reminds me of the old joke about a guy ordering a pizza and asked if he wanted it sliced into 6 or 8 pieces. He said 6 because he didn't think he could eat 8.
Thanks so much for making this dessert so simple, and the water trick is brilliant, who would have know a guy making the best dessert!!!!
I've been making this recipe since I was 20 and Now I'm 55. This is The Best Recipe Enjoy!!!
I’ve watched a lot looking for the best looking easy version on banana pudding. This looks like the winner. I’ve always done the cooked version over a double boiler. So done with that. This one actually looks delicious. Will come back with an update soon.
Thank you so much for all of your amazing recipes. I was getting tired of cooking the same things in my instant pot. I cant wait to try all of these!
I tried this and it was a hit! Absolutely delicious! Thanks for sharing this!
This was an absolutely beautifully made video. A pleasure to watch and the pudding looks incredible. Have to make this.
That trick of just rinsing the bananas in water to keep thhem from browning, is brilliant!
J
Sue Nami
No, it wasn’t because if you’ll notice, IT DID NOT WORK!
The bananas on the top were CONSIDERABLY browner than the ones in the bottom.
The better way to do it is to forget about setting the pudding first. That’s a waste of time. Mix up the condensed milk, a brick of cream cheese and the pudding until it’s smooth and getting firm, THEN you quickly slice the bananas directly into the pudding mixture immediately and THAT stops them from browning!
Sue Nami if you squeeze lemon juice it prevents the bananas from turning brown on
NaniLii Adams
It does, but who wants lemon juice in the banana pudding?
No one.
Sherryl McCauley did I say use a whole dame lemon . I said squeeze a lil juice to prevent it from discoloring YES you can add sone water for a not so lemon taste !!! Thanks for your comment have a great awesome day!!!!
Looks good. My sister makes banana pudding it is the life of the party. I bring my portion home and find a good movie to watch while i eat it.
I love the expressions on your families faces when they tasted your pudding. Priceless! This recipe looks so amazing!
I do a pudding with whipped cream, banana, crushed ginger nut biscuits and caramel sauce....Just alternate the layers - cream, banana, caramel sauce, biscuit and keep layering up until its finished...set in the fridge and the biscuits go soft and OMG its delicious! I do these in parfait glasses not a bowl...
you should try banana pudding mix. it is by far the best. My mama always used vanilla pudding mix. when I was on my own I had tried the banana pudding mix and now my daughter uses it too. you should give it a try. it is the bomb. there will never be any left. everyone will be trying to take some home with them. yours looks great. thanks for sharing
Man that sure looks good to me. I love banana pudding so much. I never had it made that way, but I believe I'm going to try to make it. Thank you for your video. God Bless
Yours is the first place I search for Instant Pit recipes because I overwhelmingly agree with your philosophy & recipes. That said, I have no choice but to vehemently disagree with this being the “best”! I would consider it the best from the “no cook” category ...I have tried them all. There is simply NO WAY that any Banana Pudding recipe will ever beat the original that the Nilla people kept on their box for many, many years.
And one more thing, I have never understood why people think that it’s difficult to follow. Even if you have no double boiler...my kitchen was undergoing a major remodel this year when my husband needed my pudding for a work related event. I was about to say it couldn’t happen without my cooktop, but then thought I found easily use my Instant Pot as a double boiler. I simply mixed my egg yolks & milk (all the ingredients for the custard) & added 2 cups of water to my Instant Pot, turned it to Sauté, and placed my stainless mixing bowl over the opening of the Instant Pot, turned the setting to the “high” setting & began to stir the mixture until the water started to boil. Stir almost constantly until pudding thickens to a thin Peanut Butter consistency. *Note: It will continue to thicken some as it cools.
This recipe creates the richest, most amazing custard on earth. Follow remaining directions to create your Meringue, either baking it until the tips are golden brown, or use a Chef’s torch to brown it by hand.
I challenge all of you to take the time (and it’s not that much time (you don’t have the extended waiting periods either) to make this recipe (and just keep it simple & slice the bananas as you go to avoid browning)
Am making this again this weekend w my granddaughter she’s such a great helper even at 3 years old. I made it last Thanksgiving n not a drop was left!!
I just want to eat the whipped cream. It is so fluffy and beautiful.
Absolutely Beautiful! My mouth is watering! Will pick up ingredients today
was it good?
I made this banana pudding with digestive .the pudding is in fridge now for when my son comes over Sunday .thanks.
It is so funny. This Sunday my church is having a dinner that was what I was going to fix.but I will use your recipe. Thank you so much.
Delicious. Lovely.
Thank you Jeff🎉
Hi Jeffery, a trick I tried to keep the sliced bananas from turning brown is to pulverize a vitamin c tablet (Ascorbic acid) into the water, then add sliced bananas, then take them out to use. Thanks this pudding is so rich and good!!
Looks fantastic! You should try using your blender for whipping cream. No splatters out of the bowl and only takes seconds you complete!
Beckcordell Cordell vita mix is fast
A great non bake dessert, for the New years dessert table. Thank you for sharing
Wanda Williams THANKS! GOOD IDEA, NEW YEAR'S DESSERT DISH!
I made this over the weekend and it is TO. DIE. FOR. Perfect thing to bring to a large party or potluck.
Very easy n delicious recipe I will really try it
My 80+ grandma used to make banana pudding for every family reunion. While everyone else was eating their meal she sneaked behind a park building to sit on the ground and eat the entire bowl. Relatives complained about missing out on her pudding for decades.
What would the ingredients be called in Ireland
Wow it looks delicious and easy. I will do it
Hi My mother use to make this recipe for years she got from a book. now all my sister's fix this all the time the thing that make it is the eagle brand milk. u can also make sweets cookies with eagle brand milk. people will think u cook the banana pudding over the stove. looks good Brother.
I make this same recipe. Have for years and there is no need to refrigerate for four hours and it comes out perfect. By the time I whip my cream it's ready. Good recipe.
Big thumb up for this yummy 😋 video!
Liked!
My mouth is just watering😳
It’s a man catcher from the South! Been making this for years, always a crowd favorite! We brought this here to Minnesota and it’s always the first dessert that gets eaten. Just like a great Baked Mac and Cheese! ❤️. For Caz
Sharon Bowers could you send me receipe it looks amazing I’m a bit slow trying to remember thanks 💕🏴
Jeffrey...Back when I was a child, that's how my Mother used to make our Banana Pudding & it IS delicious!!! Way back then, we didn't always have access to bananas year round, so in the winter when bananas were scarce, she'd make the same pudding mixture & layer it with Lorna Doones & canned peaches (or some of her frozen, previously fresh peaches). You might want to make your own version as a switchup to the bananas. Oh yes, not only was I blessed to have a Mother who was an accomplished cook, my Dad was a Nabisco cookie salesman, so Nilla Wafers & Lorna Doone cookies were in constant supply & Mother looked for creative ways to use them up!!! You've got me salivating for some Banana Pudding tonight dayum you!!!
Oops, I almost forgot, with the peaches, when she was in a hurry, she sometimes left out the pudding & just layered the Lorna Doones, peaches, & Whipped Cream. Let it sit overnight & the flavors meld well!!!
Jeffrey if you use a one gallon ziploc baggie and put your pudding in that cut the tip off it makes the perfect piping bag to pipe around the edge 1st and then work your way into the middle.. I also put the banana puree in pudding mix..
@Sharon Gypsy dove. Great idea!👍
Thanks for the recipe
We love banana pudding!😋
Thanks for using milk, not water like everybody else!
THAT'S A SUPERB IDEA, SINCE THEY SEEM TO RIPPEN QUICK AND TOO QUICK. I'll need to try that. THANKS
Use the lemon juice on the bananas but also add a bit of real vanilla flavoring to the whipping cream when whipping. Takes it to a very New decadent level😍🤗
Can..imagine how mouthwatering it would be...,oooooooh
Great video! I'm intimidated by banana pudding, which is too bad, because it is one of my favorite desserts. I'm going to try this.
Off subject: You have a beautiful family. Every single woman in that room, young and old, is beautiful. Wow.
I've made this 3 times and will make it again and again.
It's so funny watching everyone try something that you have had all your life. I'm from the south and you will find banana pudding at many restaurants and family gatherings. I get requests for my pudding all the time.
So true. I guess we take it for granted. Any church social or pot luck will have at least 2 Banana Puddings on the table. Any buffet will have a take on it, even Chinese buffets.
You're right I did take it for granted I thought everyone made banana pudding. I'm used to it at church and at family gatherings. I'm a black man by the way
I add sour cream to mine, might sound weird but it’s good 😋
That is exactly what I was thinking
Lol, so true!
A New York take on a Southern classic. Looks real good but I would use a bit less whipped cream. We like it more puddingy down here.
Agreed, and add a little vanilla.
Tough shit for you, as we say in New York
Don't start 😂😂we likes it more of a custard. That's why we add the whip cream, because us New Yawkers can't stand no ole runny pudding ☺️☺️
This will be my 4th time making this... Comes out amazing everytime. I add a small amount of vanilla flavoring and powdered sugar to the heavy whipping cream just to give it some additional flavor and sweetness. Even fabulous without the bananas... Awesome recipe : )
Hey....My whipping cream turn to butter...Do u know y....
Lovely family!!!! I do different versions of this recipe.....The original one, My grandmother got off a box of “new” Jell-o pudding back in the 1950’s. Over the years, I’ve made it several different ways but, my favorite is a strawberry version(Mix vanilla pudding and strawberry jello together dry then, add 2 eagle brand milks and let firm- fold in cool whip and layer with strawberries and butter cookies....OMG. And a pistachio version using pistachio pudding in the place of vanilla and nuts instead of banana....Mmmmm....My mouth is watering just talking about it. This recipe is so fun to play around with if you are into cooking and can mix and match...Hint: Don’t ever use a citrus fruit and you are good to go...LOL. I’ve even done a peach one since, I live down South and peaches are a must. I arrange my vanilla cookies all cute on top instead of the lovely man crumble...LOL. But, the only thing that matters is the taste and it was a big hit!!!! Kudos to you!!!!
Looking very tasty love it
Wao ... it got a velvet texture ... thanks ... like it ...
I like how you had some genuine responses to the pudding at the end!
Looks delicious!! Going to make it this weekend.. great video!
Peace is in the world today, because of YOU, Jeff!
“Hood Milk “I’m hollering 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I knew the banana pudding was going to be delicious the minute I seen ever
Add a circle of caramel around each layer of that pudding, you’ll thank me later☺️☺️☺️
Wow amazing . Its so delicious
My God, my God! Even though this is an older video, I fixed this banana pudding today, and oh boy was it a hit! ❤❤❤
I did it and it’s tasty too(sample the custard) 😆. I did start with crumbs on the bottom then finished the top with crumbs. Resting now in the fridge for tomorrow’s dessert. Thanks
I SO wish I was indulging in your banana pudding right now.
I love how the creamy whipped up texture looks.
Makes it look SO mouth watering!! 😋
Looks so good will make for easter or next family get together
I love this recipe and have done it for Christmas dinner and it was a blast. But I have done it with drained crushed and chunked pineapples for a family reunion and wasn’t allowed to leave till w gave the recipe to most of my family members
Sandra Shoemaker...what is your recipe? Can you please share it?
@@AbcDef-wv4nz
4 years later; it is a fruit salad:
Same recipe as in video but just drain a can of pineapple tidbits.
You can also replace the vanilla pudding in this recipe with pistachio pudding which also compliments the pineapple. Marchiano cherries are great with this as well for a pop of color and nice for Christmas, valentines and 4th July…potlucks, bbq’s
Replace with Chocolate pudding, white chocolate or cheesecake pudding and layer with brownie bites and raspberries. Can garnish top with mini chocolate chips or regular chocolate chips.
Vanilla wafers can be replaced with pound cake, sponge cake cut into cubes~just layer it!
I have been making trifle desserts for years because they all are delicious and they all are first to disappear!
Recipe was AWESOME! Just made it!!!
Love banana pudding and this one looks absolutely fabulous!
Looks absolutely fantastic! Yummy! Thank you for sharing!
I'm going to try your pudding, it looks so good
Jeffrey, I can’t wait to try this, it looks amazing, and so pretty! (& I’m from the South ❤️😊) I generally use Pepperidge Farm Chessman cookies instead of Nilla wafers because I’ve never been a fan of the wafers. Another trick for a great presentation in the trifle bowl is to push the wafers & the bananas all the way to the edge, up against the glass. You can see the layers better that way. Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe! ❤️❤️😊
These days you have to buy three boxes of chessman cookies because they have gotten increasingly smaller... I made it last week it was really good
Absolutely love it 🤘❤️.. can i use whip cream in the tub..?
Oooh that looks fantastic. I loved the reviews of everyone!
Looks very delicious Jeffrey, thank you!!
Better late than never, thanks for all the good 👍 tips on this banana 🍌 recipe. I took it a step further and layered the bottom with brownie since the little rascals love them. So once again thank you for this dessert treat.
I've tried this recipe wayyyy b4 I saw this video and when I tell you it's quick and easy and mmmmmazing. My friends were like OMG 😱😱😵😵😲😋😂😂 it taste like icecream.
😀😀😀 I'm from the south and everybody's banana pudding recipe is the "best." It boils down to tradition and/or creativity. I personally try to stick close to the traditional but to each his own!
I love banana pudding old fashioned, and new fashioned all GOOD you have to make yourself stop eating it.
Definitely going to try this but will put lemon juice on the bananas, I love sweet and a little sour 😊👍
Yum! I love Magnolia Bakery's banana pudding and will try this recipe. Everybody needs a little snacky snack (7:39) - glad to see someone shares one of my favorite sayings 😉
For all of you, this isn’t the traditional southern made from scratch banana pudding but it is delicious all the same. I make both and I love both. Yes, I am from the south.
@ Sandra Brown , thank you! I'm sure this is really good, it would have to be with all those good ingredients! But it is not traditional southern banana pudding, with a cooked vanilla custard pudding and a meringue top. I'll admit... I'm a bit of a snob about banana pudding! I love it still a little warm when the wafers still have some crunch. But I also love it after it has cooled and even after it has chilled in the fridge. But not with boxed pudding! (I know, SNOB!)
NJean Hunter Not at all a snob. Homemade banana pudding from scratch isn’t made much by younger people but people in the south know exactly what real banana pudding is. No box stuff for me either.
I'd love to have your recipe! I'm from the south and I've never made banana pudding. Shocking I know!
Exactly! This reminds me of that woman on the Food network channel. 'Semi homemade'. She would crack me up, so entertaining. But I'm old school, would never use anything but pure ingredients. Think of all those chemicals. Yuck.
Rehead Cloud Chaser Go to Old Fashion Banana Pudding by Phyllis Stokes. I have checked out several recipes on here and hers comes closest to mine. She puts more bananas than wafers than I do and I prefer bananas to be riper. I am going to tell you how to make it easier. Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl, put it in the microwave with a cover. Start cooking on high for 2 minutes. Then stir. Next cook on high in one minute intervals, stirring each time til you get the desired thickness. Watch it closely to make sure it doesn’t boil over.It shouldn’t be over 5 minutes. Her meringue is a basic one. I have a secret ingredient that I add but that is my secret I intend to pass down. EVERYONE wants to know how I make my meringue, but I won’t tell. It may take you a time or two to get the pudding the way you want, but once you do, it will become one of your favorite desserts. I hope this helps. Good luck. Everyone in the south needs to know how to make the old fashioned kind. There is no comparison.
Magnolia Bakery did not invent this. We used to make it with jello pudding, Nilla wafers, bananas, and cool whip back in the 70s.
And it's basically a simplified version of an English trifle that;s been made for hundreds of years. Banana pudding with nilla wafers was first introduced in a cookbook in 1921
I just came across these "Magnolia Bakery" banana pudding videos and I don't get what the big deal is. It's not even made from scratch, just the regular old instant version most of us had growing up. 🤷🏽♀️
Bananas today have no flavor, don't keep well .... I started buying bananas at the local bodegas. They're a little more expensive BUT they have more flavor and keep forever. After three days the store bought bananas would brown. These remain yellow all week! Oh - you're using instant pudding. No problem, start buying your bananas at a local bodega or store that gets them from a different produce source. I can't help but notice how narrow the refrigerator is because I had to clean mine ....
Thank you for your recipe and great video presentation 🌞👍
Nice Looks really good I have never had a you didn't have to cook I'm going to try it thank you😃
Magnolia Bakery NYC recipe. The best ever (they’re famous for it) 😋
Banana tip: mix a couple tablespoons honey in the water you're rinsing your bananas in. The honey is a natural oxidation blocker. This a good tip for apples too. Gives the fruit a better flavor than just water. Works like a charm.
3 years later:
Thank you for the tip! I am going to note this on the recipe.
@@PuppyBiteforTrump Three years later and I'm still here. Cheers!!
@@GrammerAngel
Awww; thanks again for the banana tip.
Actually going to wait to make this pudding recipe as it’s just my husband and I.
We don’t have big appetites and I don’t like wasting food.
Put it on the menu plan for when I have company.
I've been making this banana pudding for probably 20 years. EVERYBODY loves it. On really good thing is that it makes a lot so people don't have to be careful about how much they eat -- there's enough for everybody.
Slightly different and embarrassing topic. I'm 73 and a little over a year ago, my wife gave me a vanilla wafer to munch on. IT WAS CRUNCHY! I never knew. I had literally NEVER eaten a vanilla wafer that had not been an important part of a banana pudding. They were always soft and somewhat chewy. I was amazed at how good they are without the pudding.
Wow, it looks amazing. Defo going to make it. Yummy
I did some searching to see what other people use for their banana pudding and I have found there are 2 camps on this: those that use Nilla wafers and those that use Pepperidge Farm chessman cookies. While I've never use the chessman cookies, I've always been team Nilla wafers. Glad to see Jeffrey is also Team Nilla. ;)
That is how I make mine and I love it this way. Sometimes I add just a touch of cinnamon to it too.
Omg!!! I absolutely LOVE THIS PUDDING!! I make this almost exact,, and I can’t think of ANY desert as delicious. You also very fun to watch. Best utube cooking channel I’ve ever seen. 👍🏻
I know, right?
