Hi Shortcat! I’m Japanese and now I watch ur videos everyday since I came Canada to study English about a month ago. One of the reasons I watch your videos is u speak very clearly and I can easily understand ur English. And of course, I learn some Mariokart skills, and actually I appreciate that u never get angry…😮 Thank you for playing with us, Shortcat!
I also watched a lot of mario kart videos to improve my English listening. Now I've started watching Japanese videos to help with my Japanese, but I still know very little.

Once you explore the Japanese side of RUclips, you'll instantly notice how seriously Japanese people take this game. I travel back and forth between the Japan and USA regions for life (as opposed to for work) and I can confidently say that in addition to the lag, the Japan lobbies *are* just better. More players in Japan will put more effort into getting good, memorizing patterns, absorbing strategies, and learning from mistakes/bad habits than in the US. This makes even casual lobbies even a bit harder, forcing even the more casual players to toughen up to survive. In the US region, I feel like there are a bunch more players trying to force things that don't work, who balk at learning anything deeper than the basic controls, and are quick to give up if something beats them a lot. Of course the good players are good in both regions, but when I hop online in the US, there's an idiom I never used before that pops in my head: "like shooting fish in a barrel." XD
Props to Shortcat for always playing with Japanese players and dealing with lag. I hate that trail items from another player only hits you on their screen but if that person is in a star or bullet, then you only get hit on your screen. There's been a good few times I've taken on an entire Japanese lobby as the only American player and have actually come out on top. Basically if you're as skilled at the game as them, you can dominate them.
