Yeah any specific middle spot is really tough. Depending on the level of the room you're in, 1st and 2nd could be even harder than that! You have to strategize accordingly
Another challenge: Make a wheel of challenges! every race you have to spin the wheel. Some ideas for the wheel: play without collecting coins, upside down controller, no items, no shortcuts, play with mittens, worst combo for etc.
no drifting (is it even viable today lets be honest), play with joycons and gyro controls (since shortcat plays with gc controller), no looking back, no minimap, use all items immediately, use only [certain type of item], longest routes, widest/worst lines, only glider/never glider when there's an option, play until x consecutive 1st places, 50cc, play 5ft from monitor, invert colors, flip display (vertical or horizontal), always have joystick fully engaged in a direction, only looking back, no audio, block out middle portion of screen (permanent blooper), backwards controller (buttons face away from player), random combo imagine how entertaining/infuriating this would be also if there was an irl cam of some sort, whether controller or monitor or face etc shortcat if you read this, sorry in advance for your upcoming nightmares

I loved everything about this video! The same shortcat commentary we all love, the amount of skill (and luck) that you have, and the fact that you listened to your viewer’s suggestion for a video. All of that makes you such a good RUclipsr! Also I felt every single emotion that you had during and after the last race haha
Two challenges that may or may not be fun; 1 - take the slowest route in every race and see if you can win 2 - spam every item as soon as you get it and see if you can win
(For the above replies, the Athen’s Dash cave shows up at 10:46, when he was going up the stairs.) Yes to the first one. Always taking the coin path, going for shortcut (whether shroomless or not cause certain shortcuts just aren’t fast enough), avoiding shortcuts like MK8’s rainbow road’s cross cut, and just generally taking paths you’d never think to take like the cannon on Yoshi’s valley would make an absolute amazing video to watch as it not only tests his track knowledge and forces him to use items in weird spots you’d never think to use them, but makes an excuse for him to show off his shroomless cut knowledge. Just one caveat needs to be in place or else it’s absolutely impossible outside of probably just the rainbow roads and the F-zero tracks; “if you need a mushroom to take the shortcut and you don’t have anything for it, then you don’t need to take it.” Pretty sure he’s already done the second one, though I might be misremembering a different challenge.
shortcat! there was a mario kart tournament at my residency building and i made it to the final 4 showdown- until they made us switch controllers as a twist and i got an inside drift bike. now i am traumatized forever. thank you for teaching me all my mario kart skills!!!!

Video idea: a list of all bullet extensions. I know you have your Every Shortcut series, but I find it hard to find info about bullet extensions, it would be great to have a resource for that :)
imo the way to do this is to show them in order of most to least time saved. there are some of these out there but it's hard to find the most important ones to focus on learning when they're all mixed with the 1 or 2 second ones

Only removing the positions before the last duplicate really opens up some interesting strategy for if you have to pick a least-worst option (say on the last one getting 12th would be very bad since you'd reset back to nothing)
man, you sure have a knack for making these exciting at the end, lol the amount of space between 4th and 6th there at the end was miniscule, i know there was a lot of luck / guessing involved but that was still incredibly good by you props for never backing out of the room to get better track selection, don't think anyone would have judged you for doing that

The way you moved the window down for your 2nd time getting second is what we call Sliding Window technique. A very useful algorithm. Never seen it used outside of CS

For a sequel for this video you could make the challenge harder by doing 1-12 back to back which means you got to get 1rst, then second or even the inverse by starting with the 12th then 11th etc... Feel like this would really be a cool challenge so there isn't that part in the beginning where it doesn't really matter what you get. How you can see this comment 👀
The fact that this is such a unique game where each race can be as different as it can be; that getting in the middle of the whole pack is nothing but a detriment. You’re either front running or Bagging. That’s it.
The reason the game hides the placements near the finish line, is that the final placements are based on the times is based on times, while the placements on the right are based on position of the riders. This system prevents people from saying that when they were going over the finish line the counter was different, just because there was a slight lag spike
You know what is so funny about that ending, if he got 4th or 6th because they were more recent placements he would have lost most of his progress if he got them
Try a challenge like this: 1: spin the wheel of charachters 2: spin the wheel of vehicles 3: spin the wheel of wheels 4: spin the wheel of aerial gliders, so you'll get a random combo 5: play with this combo 10 times 6: profit
I just thought of an offline challenge you could do. It's called the MarioKart Nuzlocke. Basically, win every match on every course. You will start with a character and every time you beat the main game's New courses AND retro courses, then every wave of every DLC you get a new character chosen from the lobby you were in. You cannot use smart steering nor auto accelerate, The CPU must be hard, Regular Items are turned on, and every course must be played in order starting always with Mario Kart Stadium. Once you lose, you lose the character you were playing as. You will have to restart if you lose all the characters you got. There will be "checkpoint" you will reach right after you get your new character, such checkpoints being the shell or turnip cup for example. I think this will be very hard, but still quite doable, so I hope to see you do it someday. Sorry for rambling on, there's just a lot of details for this.
I love seeing the diff characters/combos, never even knew the first motorcycle existed and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Mario woohoo voice line since mk wii when I only played Mario wild wing growing up (coolest character and car for a 9 year old) it’s a great change from seeing the same combos over and over

However long 20 races takes! It was rather quick but mainly because I didn't fully restart the challenge. I wasn't super stressed, just super focused!

I haven't played Mario Kart since the DS and I have no clue what strategies you're talking about but I popped off when you got that 5th place!
The fact that this is such a unique game where each race can be as different as it can be; that getting in the middle of the whole pack is nothing but a detriment. You’re either front running or Bagging. That’s it.
The reason the game hides the placements near the finish line, is that the final placements are based on the times is based on times, while the placements on the right are based on position of the riders. This system prevents people from saying that when they were going over the finish line the counter was different, just because there was a slight lag spike
You know what is so funny about that ending, if he got 4th or 6th because they were more recent placements he would have lost most of his progress if he got them

Your videos got me into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I just thought of an offline challenge you could do. It's called the MarioKart Nuzlocke.
Basically, win every match on every course. You will start with a character and every time you beat the main game's New courses AND retro courses, then every wave of every DLC you get a new character chosen from the lobby you were in. You cannot use smart steering nor auto accelerate, The CPU must be hard, Regular Items are turned on, and every course must be played in order starting always with Mario Kart Stadium. Once you lose, you lose the character you were playing as. You will have to restart if you lose all the characters you got. There will be "checkpoint" you will reach right after you get your new character, such checkpoints being the shell or turnip cup for example. I think this will be very hard, but still quite doable, so I hope to see you do it someday. Sorry for rambling on, there's just a lot of details for this.
I love seeing the diff characters/combos, never even knew the first motorcycle existed and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Mario woohoo voice line since mk wii when I only played Mario wild wing growing up (coolest character and car for a 9 year old) it’s a great change from seeing the same combos over and over
