Two kinds of Rig Rundowns, Great ones like this where they talk, compare and play the gear! a LOT! And then all the rest talking it all to death and boring as could be for it. This and the Andy Timmons are some of the best.
i love the Steve Lukather one personally cos steve likes to show off his soloing skills on his guitars a lot, he only had two of his signature models there, and then we get taken over the pedals and Bogner amps by his tech Jon which i found a great thing to have both Guitarist and Tech share the rundown
I agree. Most of these I skip ahead past the boring talk but I found this one really good. Doug took it seriously and took the time to describe and show everything.
Yeah, Paul Gilbert was good also. Check out Jude Golds podcast (No Guitar is Safe) interview with him. PG really knows his stuff and it is very entertaining and informative.
I love Doug. I met him at the NAMM show this year by accident and actually took the time to talk to me while I was freaking out. I also ran into him at a Judas Priest show walking down the ticket line just like everyone else. And he actually recognized me when I came up to him! Probably the nicest rockstar out there
I met Doug when he was with his original band, "Lion", through his vocalist Kal Swann who I was friends with and he was one the most humble, friendliest and genuine talented musicians I've had the pleasure to know. His resume speaks for itself. Dio, Whitesnake and now his various projects just show the true talent he has. He probably is one of the most under rated guitar players around and that's mainly due to his quiet nature. I am always floored whenever I've seen him play.
I'm overwhelmed with the passion, their enthusiasm and how humble these very talented and accomplished (famous in their own right) guys are. Just watching and listening to them talk about their own instruments is awe inspiring. It's also the very first time in 45 years of playing guitar myself, that i've been thoroughly impressed with watching and hearing a bass player talk about his gear, Marco Mendoza is one of the best bass players in the world, I was so impressed with his take on his gear. again so humble and passionate. Absolutely fantastic, I sooo wish i was there. Thanks again to Premier Guitar for doing yet another seriously gobsmacking video. Greetings from Crete, Greece.
Thank you Doug! You're one of my greatest influences from the 80"s I seen you live with Whitesnake around 1987 at the Omni in Atlanta, Ga. Great White opened.
Nah, he's too cool for Kiss. Let's not kid ourselves, KISS with Ace was cool, but he carried the whole band, and it wouldn't have worked without him, and basically it didn't. They were cheesy without Ace.
ernie12man That is so true. KISS suck harder than the machines on 1/2 price Liposuction day in Beverly Hills, but at least Ace had a few decent riffs back in the 70s.
Got love a player who'll let the other band's guitarist user his cab like that and just let him throw his head onto of his stuff. A lot of guitarists are super uptight about their gear. Doug's a down to earth good guy.
I absolutely love Doug Aldrich. He can't NOT play when he's holding his guitar, he seems to love to talk about his equipment, and he's really knowledgeable about his gear. Apart form his playing skills I see a lot of myself in him 😛
Finally a guitarist who really knows and cares about his stuff...I mean, not everyone knows what speakers are in their cabs. And I must add that those creambacks are a smart and tasty choice since they tame the picky treble of the Marshalls, infact he also keeps the treble down to 3.
That Ltd signature bass is sweet! Ltd’s are nice instruments indeed and nicely priced too! I have three Gibson’s and two Ltd’s. The 401 and 1000 series are excellent quality instruments.
Funny. Malmsteen used an analog delay to do opposite of EVH's Eruption ending at the end of the Hot On Your Heels solo, where it goes up and up until it eventually crashes back into itself. The Carbon Copy pedal (or any old one with bucket brigade tech) is great for that stuff.
Sh!t!! I’m a younger fellow so I’m not really familiar with Doug Aldrich but I just picked up a set of his pickups and wanted to do some investigating. I mean what better place than PG rig rundown w/John to get an education, right? Doug’s tone is massive! Both guys are humble for the resume and skill they possess.
More legato based playing rather than alternate picking. Slash's guitar is also slung as low as Aldrich's and he also has that same legato-based style.
Zakk Wylde holds it low as well and yet his guitar playing is very pick intensive. I play guitar more or less like him and I find the right hand to be easier, actually. Also, by wrist I’m assuming you mean the wrist of your fretting hand? If that is the case, having the thumb over the neck helps quite a lot (another reason classical guitar dogma doesn’t work on electric guitar). You can also get a wide leather strap to prevent neck dive and hold it at a steep angle like Zakk.
Watching how he runs his talk box is similar to what I do. I just take a splitter out the TB output hole and run half to PA and half to the 4x12 then put the PA volume like he was saying at a good mix. I do like the volume pedal idea though cause it would give you more control but for 2-5 dollars a splitter is the close enough. Still it is refreshing to see someone doing something I do a little bit different since everyone around here is talk box inhibbited except for me and they all think that what I do is not "by the book" etc. I am just like "No you all are just about 50 years behind and trying to copy everyone else instead of thinking for yourself" I recently have been doing some triple play stuff, going through guitar rig5pro and into my Marshall. Now I am learning how to make my own wavs through Serum and import them through the tripleplay as a VST. Seriously, a Marshall Code 50, 8 year old I5 laptop or better and some software with a triple play you can have ANY sound you can dream up! You will not believe what I am going to use for my raw samples then incorporate through my guitar! Thanks Furman and other tech companies for the innovations to make this possible on a guitar!
For anyone that has tube amps that need help A&M in Iowa does GREAT work! Art is not cheap but does work like no one else around here! Totally cool guy tell him Evilstalkerhorne sent you!
OMG i know! right!? I mean Jesus do i have to hear one more millenial alternative band hipster shit, who barely know chords much less can play a solo! Jesus. I want to hear music like Aldrich parting my hair down the middle with his amazing solos! LOL!
Doug also years back used a Voodoo Amp on some of the studio tracks on Whitesnake's Good To Be Bad. Don't know if it was an early V-Rock, V-Plex, or just a modded Marshall. Curious what his opinion of it was.
That's a killer rig great tone Dead Daisies is going to be awesome with Glen in the Band can't wait.Yea back in the day Akira Takasaki from Loudness was with ESP I Love those guitars.
Those suhr aldrich pickups have a huge influence on the sound coming from that amp. The bridge pickup is one of the best out there. Super hot but retains a great tone.
Dough I have a question about the Y cable to run a signal to the tuner and also to the talk box. Why not just put the tuner at the front of the signal chain and then run the tuner out line from the volume pedal to the talk box? I'm setting up a new board which is similar.
A truly underrated player. Ever so humble as well.
True on both counts...👍
I dont think he is underrated. He's a well accomplished player and famous too.....at least in the world I live in.
So cool that massive talents like Doug and Marco with a mile long list of killer gigs each are such humble dudes.
I love Marco ' s attitude...keep it simple and it's all in the hands. Very humble guy
Doug has to be one of the greatest guitarists I have ever seen.
Great Jim Page impersonator, too.
I have become a big Dead Daisies fan! I’m a old 69 year old rocker guitar player and am blown away by your band
Marco is definitely not your average rock bassist. He is a very versatile player and a great singer as well.
Two kinds of Rig Rundowns, Great ones like this where they talk, compare and play the gear! a LOT! And then all the rest talking it all to death and boring as could be for it. This and the Andy Timmons are some of the best.

Steve Stevens's one is also great
Dont forget John hilland!!
I love Doug. I met him at the NAMM show this year by accident and actually took the time to talk to me while I was freaking out. I’m not a huge fan of white snake but I’m definitely a fan of Doug. Not only is he a great player but he just seems like a cool as shit guy
One of the best Rig Rundowns, but what do you expect it's Dougie. Great player, Great dude.
Such a great interviewer, he actually lets the artists speak. Great stuff
Thank you Doug! You're one of my greatest influences from the 80"s I seen you live with Whitesnake around 1987 at the Omni in Atlanta, Ga. Great White opened.
most killer rock guitar tone EVER!!! Doug is an inspiration!!!
I can vouch for the Aldrich pickups! They're amazing.
i put a set of Suhr SSH+ and SSV humbuckers, put them in my LP and the guitar is woke~
Yeah! Absolutely Rip! But clean up great 👍
ARGH. I can't watch this one because I keep looping the first minute over and over and over again.
NOT hiring Doug Aldrich to replace Ace Frehley in 2001 - biggest mistake KISS ever made.
David Scott King But hey, Dio got him. That was a great combination.
I think that was way before 2001 if I'm not mistaken. Possibly 1982.
David Scott King he would be a great fill in for john skyes.....😂😂
Nah, he's too cool for Kiss. Let's not kid ourselves, KISS with Ace was cool, but he carried the whole band, and it wouldn't have worked without him, and basically it didn't. They were cheesy without Ace.
ernie12man That is so true. KISS suck harder than the machines on 1/2 price Liposuction day in Beverly Hills, but at least Ace had a few decent riffs back in the 70s.
Loved it..Doug killer rock player. Marco is a monster & can play anything…and the nicest guy ever!
Awesome. We did a show with The Dead Daisies a few months back - great to catch up with 'em!
Thanks for another great video, Premier Guitar!
Doug you simply got it all ! Infinite potential + licks for days ! You’re so inspiring man
Doug it's very humble and always ready to explain whatever can be asked . The same about Marco . Low profile but Big musicians .
Got love a player who'll let the other band's guitarist user his cab like that and just let him throw his head onto of his stuff. A lot of guitarists are super uptight about their gear. Doug's a down to earth good guy.
The of best guitarists ever. Great tone, great technique, great feel. Thanks for this.
Bolton Michael great tone? 🤣😆😂👊🏼
One The Greats Out There.Never Been One On The Ego Shit. His Playing Speaks For Itself.
What a great dudes these guys are. Marco seems to be the kind of guy you chat 5 minutes with and both are ready to have some beers.
Mickey Sigrist i met marco like 3 weeks ago hands down nicest guy ive met 🤘🤘
Mickey Sigrist Marco never has a sip. Clean and dry for c20years. 👌
How have I never heard of this guy before? This dude is amazing! Wow.
Really enjoyed this one. Didnt know the band, but just good dudes who love music. John, great job man!
I absolutely love Doug Aldrich. He can't NOT play when he's holding his guitar, he seems to love to talk about his equipment, and he's really knowledgeable about his gear. Apart form his playing skills I see a lot of myself in him 😛
Great player, classic 70s tone and player on Speed, keep it up Doug...!!!
Love these interviews with the actual players lads
Met Doug in Vargas two year ago at count vamps ,very down to earth guy.great gig doing zeppelin.
ive no idea what they sound like but i love these guys....time to check it out
All very well explained, and the best is that they played! Great guys!
Love it when they actually play the Gear so we can hear the Rig!!
Finally a guitarist who really knows and cares about his stuff...I mean, not everyone knows what speakers are in their cabs. And I must add that those creambacks are a smart and tasty choice since they tame the picky treble of the Marshalls, infact he also keeps the treble down to 3.
Awesome player, awesome tone and cool dude. That 78 Marshall sings and smokes...I like that signature pedal he has...
That Ltd signature bass is sweet! Ltd’s are nice instruments indeed and nicely priced too! I have three Gibson’s and two Ltd’s. The 401 and 1000 series are excellent quality instruments.
Marshall + Les Paul = 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘Dougs a legend!
Underrated guitarist
I loved Doug with his time with RJD. Killing the Dragon kicks ass. He's "totally" Spicoliish! Cool video brother 🤘
Great rig rundown.. thanks guys!
"Ha, I just goof around with that thing," said Jeff Spicoli. What a great guy Doug is.
Funny. Malmsteen used an analog delay to do opposite of EVH's Eruption ending at the end of the Hot On Your Heels solo, where it goes up and up until it eventually crashes back into itself. The Carbon Copy pedal (or any old one with bucket brigade tech) is great for that stuff.

Doug’s tone is massive! Both guys are humble for the resume and skill they possess.
Doug his excellent musician! Love his guitar playing!!👍👍🎸😎
How the hell does he play with that guitar slung soooo low. That kills my wrist when I try. Looks cool but painful!
More legato based playing rather than alternate picking. Slash's guitar is also slung as low as Aldrich's and he also has that same legato-based style.

Steve Clark was even lower than Doug
Answer: Gorilla arms!!
Worked on two LP's with Doug, and not a nicer guy!
I’ve never played before, but I have ordered a Gibson les Paul goldtop with DA pick ups. I assume I will be able to play like this straight away.
Doug is acting like I used to after I hit the bong too many times.
Watching how he runs his talk box is similar to what I do. One of my favorite guitarist
"Whatever serves the song": what a TRUE bass guitar player lives by, instead of lauching an anti-pick war ;)
Suhr Aldrich pickups are amazing ! I only have the bridge and some day ,I might try the neck pu.
I saw Aldrich at Santiago de Compostela, with Whitesnake! What a show!
Lovely tone and playing
How does he wear that guitAr As low as Page with such articulation? Brilliant tone, spectacular talent, gentle soul. What a monster !
Just as good as a LP can sound.
Doug is a monster guitar player love his tone
You have saved me a lot time And money. Always thankful for sharing.
I bought my '78 Sunburst Strat from Cowtown too Dougie!
Never heard of the Dead daisies but I'm a big fan of Doug Aldrich
Can't wait for the next album to come out. Wish they would come back the Oklahoma City.
I love Doug! Huge influence on my playing. And I really love the chicks in the background!😘😘😘
For anyone that has tube amps that need help A&M in Iowa does GREAT work! Art is not cheap but does work like no one else around here! Totally cool guy tell him Evilstalkerhorne sent you!
Thanks for this - we needed a break from the hipsters, haha.
OMG i know! right!? I mean Jesus do i have to hear one more millenial alternative band hipster shit, who barely know chords much less can play a solo! Jesus. I want to hear music like Aldrich parting my hair down the middle with his amazing solos! LOL!
@@harveydents but in fairness, guys like us don't need much reminding to part our hair down the middle
@@lanceraustin LOL
"Here let me show ya". Proceeds to play a stunning les Paul / Marshall sound.
Doug is one of my fav guitar hero.
Yeah, Akira was, and is a beast on the guitar !
Doug is....from another planet. He has the biggest hands I have ever seen on any guitarist...including EVH and Joe Walsh.
Wow that les Paul is awesome
John and Doug are like brothers from another mother..
Mendoza is so fly man, whoa, what a dude
No matter what anyone plays, John acts like they just performed magic. Its pretty funny

Amazing Aldrich!!!!
Aldrich's sound is awesome, why don't all Marshall's sound like that?
It's about the hands - I'm sure Doug can plug into any Marshall and sound huge.🙂
Those suhr aldrich pickups have a huge influence on the sound coming from that amp. The bridge pickup is one of the best out there. Super hot but retains a great tone.
Finally..!!!!!!!!!
Thank You.!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love Doug
Great player, unique style signature, shape shifter
I love everything about your awesome guitars your music rock's forever 🤘💯🎸🎸♥️♥️💯🤘
Dough I have a question about the Y cable to run a signal to the tuner and also to the talk box. Why not just put the tuner at the front of the signal chain and then run the tuner out line from the volume pedal to the talk box? I'm setting up a new board which is similar.
24:40 Yes, if you have a great bass and drummer the guitar players job gets real easy!
Doug knows his stuff and has a smokin Tone...that's why he plays Les Paul's...
Best guitarist in Dio we gotta say. And best Les Paul player since Brian Robertson, in heavy rock of course. You can´t touch Paul Kossoff in rock.
Damn..3 years too late for the suhr signature pickups sweepstake... This guy has some serious chops... so fast and recognisable..
Doug Aldrich is a legend. Love that guy.
More gain = Stickyness, well that's great way to describe it really imo. :D
Cool a guitarist running in stereo!
Damn!!!!!! I love DOUG!!!!!!!!! killer player!!!!
Doug is the man !!!
Marco is a bit of a close talker lol Good job PG!
Whats the function for the 2nd Eventide H9 on the Marshall Top?
Not EMG X Pickups, but Seymour Duncan. Even LTD / ESP got it wrong on their Website :/
Love Doug Aldrich
Marco is a wonderful human being…rare to find a human…being….usually doing
Akira Takasaki...LOUDNESS!
Monster on 🎸😎👊
Loved this video.
Look up ‘Cool’ in Webster’s Dictionary and it says: See ‘Doug Aldrich’
