I was a student of Doug's back in the early '80s at Instrumental Music in TO. I remember Doug teaching me Rainbow In The Dark and Still of the Night... I still have all the tablature books that he wrote out for me. It is crazy to think that one day he would be in those bands playing those same songs! Doug is such a GREAT guitarist... and an even better person! I am so happy to see all his success!
I gotta say this, Doug is not only a terrific musician, he is even more terrific as a human being, super nice humble guy, I met him in NYC and he couldn't be more nice and gentil, God bless you man !!!!!
Doug has been my top guitarist since I first seen him live with Dio. Met him twice when with Whitesnake then Dead Daisies... Always an absolute gent. Asked about my upcoming wedding, photo bombed a photo with myself and Dave from Daisies. They say don't meet your heroes. I met mine and I couldn't have been happier
Imagine Doug Aldrich and Richie Faulkner working together. even if just for a short project, that would be some classic master level guitar-duo stuff. legendary.
"Don't beat yourself up, it'll all come from the inside out..." That's a humble and crucial advice from a loveable, down-to-earth guy and a real, passionate player. Thanks for being such an inspiration, Doug! Much love and respect. 💛🙏🏼
Now THAT is the sound of a Les Paul. A tight thunk on the bottom end, some sizzle in the top and a bigger than life midrange with tons of harmonic content.
Wish I’d had You Tube and this tutorial 38 years ago when I started guitar. Doug is an amazing player and all round nice guy. Saw him live with Whitesnake and blew me away
Doug, congratulations for being one of the greatest Rockstars in the world. In addition, I salute you for inspiring this new generation. You are in Modo Somewhere!
It really doesn't get any better than this, we get to hear cool stories as well as watching these legends how to play these amazing songs. Thank you for all the people at Gibson TV so much 👍👍👍
All skills and no fluff. Lays everything out in a simple to understand way and he gives a lot of cool ideas for you to try out with regards to riffs and different tunings.
Doug Aldrich is on my short list favorite guitarists, with Jimmy Page, Jake E Lee, Adrian Vandenberg, Joe Bonamassa, Chris DeGarmo... His original work is powerful and creative. He covers other artists work like a freakin monster and works the stage with major mojo. But my favorite thing about him is his excellent character. He is humble and modest about his playing, often commending the guitarists he has shared stages with. I've heard him say he has given lessons to amateur players, "... better than myself." He is what truly talented artists should be but seldom are-- gracious and appreciative. We should celebrate truly golden souls like Mr Aldridge.
I remember having a long conversation with you when I met you at the Starwood Amphitheater Nashville Tennessee, you were doing the Dio gig at the time and it was a thrill to watch you rip it up!!!
I love the bit at 30:33 to 30:43 where Doug shows the correct way to play Fool For Your Loving (only a quick snip of the start of the song but its enough to see and hear). I have been playing it the way many teach it on the net (for years) and keep thinking to myself 'this does not sound right'. This is the only time I have ever seen Fool For Your Loving played this way on the net (I am sure there maybe others but I have not found it) now, at long last when I play it, it sounds spot on!! Doug, a true legend.
I love listening to Rock n metal and this is to me one of the most underrated guitarist , I would love to sit at least one time with Doug in person and talk about guitar playing n music . Keep on Rocking Doug .”Long Live Rock n Roll “
Doug is highly respected from those that know his past. I really wish his work with his band Burning Rain would have caught on with more audience appeal. Some of the jams they did on those records with Keith St John and Sean McNabb was killer stuff. Quality blues based rock. Do what you do Doug, glad to see Burning Rain had a release in 2019 with different members.
@@gibsonguitar Excellent! I love how they are so clear about how the songs are played. I had been playing Youth Gone Wild totally wrong before this video. Sounds incredible now! You guys have a great thing going with this. Kids getting Gibsons soon!
I just found this and began watching. Now I'm addicted. Awesome teacher. I'm self taught to and left handed novice. Watching Doug teach is a mirror to me. Best thing I could've found.
When I was in jr. high and High school, Doug taught at my local guitar store in little Thousand Oaks, CA. I remember a few of my friends taking lessons from him and how much they liked him. We also remember when he got Lion together. We all hoped they'd make an impact. They had a video on MTV, which was pretty crazy for young kids that just knew him as the local guitar teacher. He was also a very nice guy. You can tell he is a guitar teacher at heart, here. I know now in my 40's as a vocational instructor, what a good teacher is. This is it.
Doug - is one of my favorite Hard & Heavy guitarists in the world. I love all of his musical parts in the ''DIO'' and ''WHITESNAKE'' bands for style and great guitar technique. Everything he does admires and fully corresponds to my ideas about the real heavy guitar sound and manner of performance. Long live hard & heavy style and heavy music FOREVER !!!
I saw Doug with Dio on the Killing the Dragon Tour back in 2002 at the Cricket Pavillion in Arizona with Scorpions & Whitesnake. I also saw Doug with Whitesnake in 2003 at the same venue. Awesome shows!
I saw him rocking a pointy guitar when he was in Hurricane. He just ruled the stage. Had the looks, the moves, the chops. He made it the top level of rock guitarists. Seems like a cool guy too.
Dude I love the new Whitesnake stuff with dough. He really adds a new dimension to the band. Almost Dough was meant to be there all along. Dough has inspired me for a very long time. A solid guy.
He was also in Hurricane, played on the Slave To The Thrill album. I think he was with Jackson at the time so there's a lot of whammy and harmonics action, but the riffs are killer. If you ever heard Guitar Center radio ads in the '90s and early '00s, the intro and background music was songs from that Hurricane album.
Yess, glad you mentioned this. People forget that Kelly Hansen of Foreigner was the singer for Hurricane, all of HURTICANE'S stuff kicks ass in my opinion. I'm also a North Carolinian like Doug.Hope to meet him some day.🙂
This is exactly what I need to get those riffs down ...have a professional musician whis played them before and show me how its done perfect setting ...hes a good teacher straight and direct...no mumbo jumbo ..GREAT TEACHER 👍
Aside from being one of the top guitarist in rock & roll, he is incredibly humble in the interviews he gives , and lessons he teaches. He has definitely inspired me to be a better guitarist…..
Doug has it ALL!!!
The talent, chops, understands Rock music, the look, hair & personality.
The guy is an All-Star!

@@randallamps I was with Doug from '84 to '90.
So glad Doug Aldrich is getting the recognition he deserves. Such a killer guitar player. Amazing chops and great feel.
Doug Aldrich is one of the Best.

This duo for Priest!

Real cool...
Parabéns.. incrível 👏👏💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Doug Aldrich is pretty great and very humbling when he talks. His stories are very immersive to his lesson. Lots of respect to this guy.
The way he plays is so smooth and fluid it's nuts.

This guy was born for hard rock. The ultimate hard rock guitarist!
His stuff with dio rocked

I learned so much thanks to Doug videos. Got my first Les Paul because of him, I'm forever grateful. This man is a legend.
I remember seeing him watching Dio's killing the dragon DVD, what a beast.
Still looks like I first remember him!
Never understood why he's been under rated. This video is the color of that guitar. Thanks Doug!
Really relaxing to see this guy talking and playing.
Love this classic sound of a Les Paul straight into a Marshall.
There's a distortion pedal in between, he gets his sound that way.
You mean Marshall amps?
Respect the Doug. Only man who did justice to Campbell and Sykes. Wish he had more original material with Dio & Coverdale
PLEASE keep this Riff Lords series going! It's outstanding!!

One of the most entertaining and informative guitar tutorials Ive seen. The man is not only a great guitar player but also a great teacher.
A perfect guest for this show. Doug's awesome. One of my favorite players. 🍻
My friend DA... he makes it look so easy. Very talented, effortless and wonderful every time. Love you, Brother, Forevermore. 🖤
What a talent and a great humble teacher. Love that Gison into a Marshall sound. Rock on Doug!!
it's so "spiritual" to hear the "Rawness" of a les paul plugged straight into a Marshall. The essence of true Rock N Roll.
My neighbours may beg to differ lol
Man, that Heaven Gets You By tune is beautiful!! Awesome guitar work Big D!!!! You Rock!!!!

My favorite Dio guitarist! If he and Sykes were in Whitesnake at the same time, that would have been amazing!
Great fun to watch, Aldrich, Gibson and Sykes.
Good stuff Maynard!
That Les Paul sounds amazing . Doug Aldrich is such a great player
plus he's taking the time to explain all these classic rock songs .
A great guy who has earned every bit of his success. And a monster player as well!
Whitesnake live with Doug Aldrich was some seriously slaying shit. Live in Japan was some killer stuff.
That is exactly the same show I was thinking about. Epic!
Still Of The Night live 2004 is even better in my oppinion!
Charlie's World the whole 2004 show is just kick ass! They were on fire, this show was perfection.
