He is another one of those guys that needs to have a youtube channel. Teaching us some of that enormous talent he has for music. I could watch him for 15 mintues each week showing off some of those riffs he has played over the years.
He is. My firstborn daughter went to see Whitesnake when Doug was still in the band. At the time she had a crush on him and had the luck to meet him to say hello. She was totally star struck and broke down in tears. Doug gave her a big hug and tried to calm her down. He is such a beautiful soul.❤️
Fun to watch someone that turns into a kid when he gets his guitar in his hands. I can remember having that kind of passion for the instrument. Master of his craft...

Paul Kossoff! My all time favorite guitar player ever. You nailed it, he sounded like a violin his control and touch were in a league of his own. And he just meant it like his life depended on it. The simplicity is very very deceiving, it’s some of the hardest stuff to play just because hardly anyone can play as finely as Koss could(you can learn to play the songs badly, but playing them well could take you a lifetime). A violinist would appreciate Koss because of that. And his inversion chord work with his unique use of open strings(listen to Be My Friend or from his solo album Molten Gold)it was absolutely genius. His playing was so so special… He should be more famous, he was one of the best ever to grace music.

First of all, there are two guitars involved. So when you play it alone you have to make a combination/compromise of both parts which is what I ended up doing when I played it with a coverband.
Yeah two in the album version and actually three layers in the single version (although the single version misses the first sweet solo the rhythm guitar to me is even cooler sounding still because of how Koss layered the guitars). Koss is my all time favorite guitar player 🙏
Yep Paul used 2 guitars and panned one to each side so playing the song with one guitar you can’t do the exact Album version but it still sounds good. Thx for the info on Paul using 3 guitars on the single. This is one of my favorite all time rock songs. Song came out in 1970 and it wasn’t until years later I realized he had used 2 guitars.

Thank you Doug, I struggled with the second part of the riff for a long time - you nailed it! By the way - you are a brilliant guitar player, I ordered the new Dead Daisies album today....
I've been playing "All Right Now" for decades. And much like Doug, I went through an evolution of how to play it. It was only this past year that I finally keyed in on the high A notes in the riff. It kinda blew my mind and ever since then I've played it that way. Definitely cool he noticed too. Actually, if you search Gov't Mule live doing the song, you'll notice Warren doing that, too. Absolute monster of a song.
I've always had great admiration and respect for Doug, when I first heard him in " Lion" back in the day when they first came out I said this dude has some serious guitar skills.
Doug's tone is OUTSTANDING! Sounds like a Marshall JTM 45, but more than likely one of his signature gain pedals. Would love to know how he obtained the guitar tone in this video!
Paul Kossoff plays the A chord with his pinky on the 5th fret of the low E string - (oddly enough) - and mutes the open A string on one of the 2 guitar parts that make up the riff. He keeps it there while playing over the "D" chord section, along with playing the F# note on the 4th fret of the D string he plays the open G string and his second finger on the 3rd fret of the B string and then resolves back to the A chord.
I’ve watched many live videos trying to figure out how exactly he played it. I could never find one that showed his hands on that part. All the videos I found were guys sitting in with Paul Rogers or cover versions. No two guys played it the same. There’s probably 10 ways to play it and sound similar. I never thought about leaving the G string open. That sounds the most correct. Thanks!
I don't remember who it was, but there was someone on youtube who recorded all right now, and figured out how to make it sound exactly like the record. He figured out that it is really two guitars on the record. Which is why it confuses so many people. One plays the riff with the higher notes Doug talks about here, and the other plays only on the lower frets. The wonders of overdubbing a guitar track.
04:20 that´s correct. Howard Leese showed that high A note on the high E string on his Fretted Americana video (demo his vintage burst that they sold).
Great playing and explaining. Yes Kossoff was amazing and you loving his style and giving him props for his inspiration says a lot about you too. Gotta check out the dead daisies now.

Above the bell on the right side it says "more....". Click that link for his rig rundown. Pisses me off I had the identical bottoms and the one 1979 JMP head 30 years ago. Sold em.
Sweet Talker by Whitesnake is a blues rock boogie classic with action around the A-chord played by barring across the 2nd fret just as demonstrated here by Doug.
Great stuff! I do know that two guitars were on the original recording. You’re right that he used the 2 lower strings on one guitar to get the higher notes. Also if we look closely on old live videos he is pressing the low E on the 5th fret which gives an unusual sound dimension during the verse part. Keep rockin!
I always wanted to learn this song. Thank you. I learn so Much better just watching someone play it. Real time than reading tab or having someone explain where to put your fingers.
Being a 3-piece (instrumentally), Koss would often try to fatten up his sound. In All Right Now he reputedly used his little finger on the low E string at the V fret to double the root A on his initial strum. Then change it to barre the B and E strings to form the A5. What a master. Another amazing riff on A is by Ian Moss on the intro of Goodbye Astrid. Good luck playing this one...
Everything you say is right. It was a huge song in the seventies. As you point out it's a great song crafted from very simple parts. It's just not so simple to get right on stage.
I believe it was double tracked with a low A on 5th fret of the E-string (that's how he played it live), and then a G-shape on the 2nd fret, top 5 strings, as the double track on the record to give the high A note, possibly with a high E on the 2nd string as well.

Doug’s signature pickups are killer. Got a set in a Jackson
I am surprised there isn't a knock on the door asking to keep the racket down...lol. keep up teaching us Doug, your one of the best znx kindest 👍
Sweet Talker by Whitesnake is a blues rock boogie classic with action around the A-chord played by barring across the 2nd fret just as demonstrated here by Doug.
Blew it from the start.
All we wanted was a younger generation showing how it was done..
Thankyou
Still prefer it to be A MYSTERY.
XXXXXXXX
Another great example of an extremely cool A-chord riff is Riff Raff from AC/DC.
A great guitarist in probably the best and hardest working band on the road today! Go Daisies!
I always wanted to learn this song.
Thank you.
I learn so
Much better just watching someone play it. Real time than reading tab or having someone explain where to put your fingers.
I love this dude's guitar playing. Jam On Doug Aldrich.
Good luck playing this one...
always enjoyed anything doug says or does. such a cooooool dude. always has his feet on the ground and can play that f'n geeetar!!!
I really dug this!!
One of the coolest vids I’ve watched in a while!
Thanks!🙏🏼
real nice axe Doug
Everything you say is right.
It was a huge song in the seventies.
As you point out it's a great song crafted from very simple parts. It's just not so simple to get right on stage.
Doug is a great Player with a great taste for riffs.
🤘Love The Daisy's🤘
È assolutamente un chitarrista con due palle⚾⚾così, grandissimo artista e chitarrista. Uno spettacolo 💯🎸
I believe it was double tracked with a low A on 5th fret of the E-string (that's how he played it live), and then a G-shape on the 2nd fret, top 5 strings, as the double track on the record to give the high A note, possibly with a high E on the 2nd string as well.
Totally classic riffs
One of the best Rock guitarist ever🤎
Finally - you got it right - all the other tutorials fail :D
