    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Annette O'Toole (Smallville, Virgin River) joins us this week to share iconic stories from her decades of work alongside Hollywood legends and all the while how her naivety prevented her from being taken advantage of throughout her early career. Annette goes on to tell a crazy story of her travels back and forth across the country during 9/11 and how it inevitably led to her winning an Academy Award. We also talk about her relationship with Michael McKean, enjoying acting now more than ever, and the special impact Smallville has had on people’s lives.

Annette looks fantastic, hard to believe she's 70. She did a really great job as Martha Kent in Smallville - along with John Schneider, they both made the Kents very down to earth, relatable people who you would root for all the time. I love also that she was in Superman III with Christopher Reeve in 1983 as Lana Lang, and then comes full circle to play his mother 18 years later.

But Clark (Tom) gave up his superpowers to live normal life as Cryer's Lex tried kill him. Tom's Clark stated he didn't know President was in town. It was the right show at the right time with the right cast for sure. I remember the show, the time, and how it fit into my life, with the romantic relationship I had then, as an upperclassman in high school, and beyond. I’d have to look at the dates, but I think I must’ve been a junior in high school when it came about. I had this girlfriend who looked like Lana that I adored, and we watched the show together often. Sadly the Lana and Clark relationship was just so tragic. It was a freaking sad rollercoaster, but I guess that’s what kept the audience coming back. Lex’s character was cool too. But, also tragic. He starts out good hearted and ends up hardened and jaded, and incapable of comprehending why Clark had his secrets, even as Lex was starting to figure it out.
