TOM WELLING On How He Was Sold SMALLVILLE & What It Became #insideofyou #smallville Развлечения
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum in my opinion were perfectly cast for their characters. Absolutely loved the series.
I remember being very skeptical at first about the whole thing. Both characters were icoic and in my mind, doing younger versions would only mess it up. Both actors really did well by quickly establishing their performance as both different from the classical canon but also paying hommage to it in some way.
Best live action versions of the characters in my opinion
Rosenbaum is the best Luthor we've had on screen
Agree that they were really good for the roles, but the show itself still sucked...
That was one one of the things about this show that made it so big. They were cast so perfectly for their roles, they both had the perfect look, perfect height, on screen chemistry, and they had good story material to work with.
20 years. Wow haha. Smallville used to be such a big part of my life. I still come back to rewatch it every once in a while. It's so timeless.
Im from south Africa
Saturday: Smallville
Sundays: Charmed
time flies, i think for me the show is timeless because it coincides with what i consider the best and most meaningful time of my life.
@@hlfbrwnhlfamzng totally! Back to my teens when life was simple lol
Definitely not timeless but still a masterpiece of its time
@@Stefantius maybe not, but there were plenty of *moments* that are still quite timeless, because they paid a great deal of respect & homage to Chris Reeve/ the Donnerverse: Which *IS* timeless to a generation of fans who love *both* interpretations.
I was 13 when this show started and now I'm 33. I love this show and it was a big part of my youth. Love these guys
same here dude. i remember going through hs and watching along as the characters went through their lives. it was surreal.
Wow you were a kid and now you are a dad or at least dad aged😭. Im scared of getting older
Who cares
@@Shad0wmoses Michael & Tom - The Julius Winfield & Vincent Vega of Smallville. ( Pulp Fiction reference ).
It's cool that Tom Welling is really good friends with Michael Rosenbaum
no surprise
Nice PFP
They aged beautifully 😍 I miss having them on screen together. Smallville Forever.
Looking through all the comments no one has mentioned the PROMO for Smallville. Tom on the cross in the cornfield with the glowing piece of kryptonite around his neck. It was pure genius it was on the subway in Philly and came on the WB Network I'll never forget it
I remember it to, Derrick.
Yep.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid. I already loved the dean Cain show so seeing this was just amazing.
I'm no actor but I imagine if you're filming 22 Episodes a year there really isn't time to make every scene a masterpiece, you just get the scene done and move on
Nope. TV moves very quickly. You do a new episode every eight days.
No, an actor of merit takes pride in every scene or they’re soooo good that their average performance 🎭 is better than most.
Yeah T.V shows do move quickly but they don’t have time to explain stuff they just move to the next scene like it’s nothing.
I am an actor and can say you're spot on!
I think that’s why every tv show nowadays on Netflix, Prime, Disney, Hulu, HBO etc is 10 or 9 episode per season
Rosenbaum...one of the best live action Lex Luthors we've gotten! Hands down.
Plus his Flash voice work, top notch!!
always prefer JL Flash
Ah you didn't like Jon Cryer? lmao
Micheal set the bar so high in his performance on Lex I honestly don’t know who can top it.
The last scene between Clark and Lex where they reminisce on what happened and Lex beautifully tells the story of their history and their future no one could of done it better.
Lex.. agreed.. even looked like a young "Lex".. he killed that roll !!!!!!
When the writing is on point, john cryer has worked super well for me.
@@DeadSpatula John Cryer does a better job hamming up the "I'm an arrogant evil genius" stuff, where Micheal just embodies the character overall, no extra sauce needed. But Cryer charismatically destroys Spacey (boring) and Jessie (over the top and off) and maybe slightly Hackman. Though Hackman was fun.
Yea, whenever I think of Lex I picture him, no one else has even come close to how he portrayed him.
You almost expect Rosenbaum to comment on how he misses the days when they used to talk to each other as friends.
There’s so much great insight into how to approach life that Tom Welling just said. He wasn’t worried about the world looking at him when we actually were, and most of us are thinking the world is always looking at us, judging us. But it never is. I certainly need to work on being more like him in that way.
He was born to be an actor. He’s very underrated. So natural in front of a camera.
The Keanu Reeves of tv
I remember seeing Smallville in a teen news week magazine when I was in six grade. They gave a preview of what the series entailed and it was really something special to me. Especially since it was the first live action superhero show that was available to watch at that time. Smallville made a very big impact to the superhero fan community.
Even when I was in the military my friends and I would marathon all seven seasons of Smallville to pass the time. You never know what impact you can make on others
The cast was the absolute best part of Smallville. IMO the TV show could have been condensed to end a few seasons earlier and then transition to films (theatrical or direct to video, like Stargate did). I will forever be disappointed that we never got time with a true Welling Superman.
He never wanted to be Superman
@@Knightfall182 Hence my complete disappointment...
@@nathanddrews He made the right choice. WB should have stuck with Brandon Routh for Superman
@@Knightfall182 Agree to disagree.
i still pray for this show to get one of those soft reboot revivals and give us a real season 11. bring back tom, toss him in the suit for one last season as a limited event, and make Eradicator the villain. i would literally die of excitement lol
I find it refreshing how humble Tom is about the whole experience... I know quite a few folks who would've been all "yeah I got this" and taken credit for everything. He knew it in his gut that it was a team effort, and that comes through in his reliance on others to help direct him. I always say, "If you say you know how, then show that you know how. If not, then shut up and learn." Looks like Tom got that same lesson as well. I would never have known he was inexperienced back then unless he said it. Dude looked like he knew what he was doing, even in interviews back then.
I think the fact that he was so knew to it all added to his small farm charm, so to speak. He looked genuinely bewildered in the earlier series. In fact everyone had a pretty good arch, because there was time. But Allison Mack went way too far after the show ended....I mean come on?!!! What were you thinking girl?!!!
The dynamic that they were friends at first on the show was the best part of smallville
It was genius esp for a WB show
Loved how Tom played bad-ass cop/Cain on Lucifer.
Camera never bothering him is such an enviable talent for an actor. Having lived in Los Angeles for a good portion of my life, I've gone through the cliche "I want to be an actor" phase, and have done my share of on-stage acting and on-camera acting. And I always found the on-camera acting to be much more difficult. On stage, I felt liberated and free to do anything. But on camera, I was a self-conscious nervous wreck. Camera acting is difficult because that giant lens is *right there*, and you feel scrutinized in every little thing you do.
I must say that I don't like how they ended Clark's story in Crisis On Infinite Earth's. That's not the Clark/Superman that was presented to us in the Smallville series. He still would have probably had a family with Lois but I don't think he would've given up his powers.
I didn’t like it either. It didn’t make sense after everything he went through to become superman to give it all up a year or so after didn’t make sense.
Agreed
Well he wasn’t actually Superman he was superboy from the 1949 comics when superboy was the younger version of Superman but technically not a Superman show and he was the blur cause there was already a lawsuit going on over someone else using the title superboy and they probably didn’t want a lawsuit on there hands
@@kevin10001 He became Superman at the end
It was bs. The whole thing was about him not being able to run from his destiny, and judging by his age, he wasn't superman for very long either
You guys will always be the best Hero and Villain combo 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Charlie Cox and Vincent D'onofrio in Daredevil
I just love how laidback and very down-to-earth both these guys are!🥰
I've seen the whole show like 3 times, it's one of my favorite shows to this day.
Yeah, I love it. I want to get the blu-ray and watch it all over again, too.
I have seen it almost 3 times, and the first time I watched it was in 2020, just 2 months after the pandemic began. Then I rewatched it for fun, and then once more with my grandmother, who only understands french, so we watched it with subtitles and she really liked it.
Same! I’ve watched this show about 4 times, now I’m watching the whole series again for the 5th time.

same, its so good. back when it was first airing it was family tv night every new episode and i would watch them with my mom as a kid. since the finale i think ive rewatched it about once every 2 years, its about time to start up a new one now actually.
Tom and Michael thank you for making my teenage years the best and most memorable of my life,Smallville will always be my best show ever
Michael Rosenbaum is a damn good actor. Loved him in all his roles.
Damn time really flies looking at these actors, I remember watching Smallville re-runs on ch 11 on Sundays back in 04' and eventually catching up to the current season. It was one of the first shows I actually kept up with on TV.
You two are my yin and yang. You inspired me to chase my dreams to Hollywood and now I am helping actors get their first CW roles
You're in Casting? Congrats
Congrats!!

woooow this is awesome
Smallville was and still best superhero show, nothing even close to it.
Yep … even the green arrow in that show was more like the comics … Arrow show tried to copy Batman
Daredevil was better
@@johanstinson not even close
@@Rarazan I know. Daredevil was a million times better than the whiney high school drama called Smalleville.
@@johanstinson complete nonsense
This dude will always be the offical young superman imo.
OMG my daughter was OBSESSED with this show She was gutted when it finished, she started to saved up for the box set and her brother went and got it for her for her birthday ❤🌟 I swear she couldn't do enough for him for weeks. She also then made us all watch every episode 😁
That’s so lovely!! What a good brother
lucky family
Happy 20th Anniversary of Smallville to both you and Tom!!! You were both a Great Lex Luthor and Clark Kent!!!
I'm currently finishing up Smallville because I stopped because I was transitioning from middle school to high school when it was on TV and so I didn't have time to finish it and my phone knows I'm watching it so they sent me this clip and the show is so great it's such a part of History and I'm so glad I'm getting to enjoy it now.
It's clear that these actors cared about their performance. They never seemed to mail it in like some of the other CW shows at the time(and now).
What a healthy well adjusted outlook, we could all do a little better to view ourselves this way.
I watch smallville once a year thats my own tradition that i started
Best Superman, Lex combo. Tom was great on Lucifer too.
Yes
Christopher reeve and dean Cain were better Superman and gene hackman and jesse Eisenberg were better luthor michael Rosenbaum was better voicing Wally west on justice league
Chris Reeve and Gene Hackman were awesome too.
I was OBSESSED with this show. Saw premier on tv with my dad. Best Lex Luther ever. Tom welling also fantastic
There may not have been Facebook and Twitter back when Smallville went on but we had chat boards, we were talking about it every week. Maybe the crew of the show just didn't follow it.
Brought the entire DVD collection and watching 3 episodes a day - absolutely love it. Great actors and still my favourite of all Clark Kent/Lex
Damn, I think I've got to go back and watch all 10 seasons again...
I love that show ! Whenever I here Remy Zero "Save me" I get nostalgia
I want hear Tom talking about the Red Kryptonite episodes. His acting was so good even though it was a complete change of personality.
It is great that you stayed friends. That is a lovely takeaway from your work.
You guys are the best!!! Smallville is one of my favorite shows!!!
Tom Welling was the most beautiful Superman ever! He was devastatingly handsome when he was young. 👍😉
There have been 54 TV shows that lasted 10 or more years. Still a very small percentage of the total number of shows. 33 lasted 9 years. And 45 that lasted 8 yrs.
I think TV shows can make a mistake dragging a show on for too long. The sopranos got it right ending it after 6 seasons and same with breaking bad if you go on too long you end up repeating storylines or running out of story. Smallville had a lot of content to work from so they made it worth while
@@tomg3131 Most of the time those decisions are in the hands of only a few people, sometimes one person, with one (and only one) deciding factor: Money
ahhh, my teenage years....... "Smallville" was literally only the 2nd show I binge-watched(and I already watched a lot of TV as a kid back in the 90's)
Watched Smalville 10 years after it endet, still amazing show and really nice to see this still discussed
One of the most special things to me when I whatched the show was that several characters in a variety of ways said "I know the felling" and I realized that I also knew (this is not common). I have the same felling watching you talking now! Thank you very much!
Favorite show, I could listen 2 these 2 for hours. 😁
Forever in love with this Lex 😍
It’s crazy just seeing Michael there talking like a normal guy and going back to watch his scene as the evil Lex from the Onyx episode , wow Michael did an amazing job as Lex
That’s why seeing him in sorority boys at that time was strange but he was great at comedy.
I still keep hearing JLA Flash when he speaks sometimes :)
hes a little weird, definitely not a normal guy- Definitely a great actor though
Loved hearing about this ❤️
Smallville is so special. Whenever I watch it I get a nostalgic feeling.
loved coming home from school and watching smallville also rosenbum will forever be flash to me when I hear his voice i always have to watch an episode of justice league
Loved Smallville. It's a damn shame though that they couldn't figure out how to include at least the Bruce Wayne character into that universe if not Batman. The only tease was mentioning Gotham City and that's about it. Damn licensing issues always ruin everything. Seeing Tom Welling make a cameo in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover was great though. Seeing Michael Rosenbaum's Lex would have been epic.
Read the Smallville Season 11 Comic, written by the shows creators. It picked up where the show left off and introduced Batman right away.
they weren't allowed to use Batman. that's why Oliver was basically turned into him (personality wise) for Smallville and Arrow
Would love to see these two acting together again!
You guys were fantastic!
Very cool as far as the lesson on relying on other people to give you good feedback. Glad you were able to have that experience in your career.
1:20 There are actually to date 49 American television shows that lasted 10 seasons or more. However, if Tom meant American Television DRAMA series, then he is right, there have been less than 30.
Didn't he say 30 percent
I love you both!!
Such an awesome show! Had me hooked since I was about 3 lollll
one of the best series
As someone who recently started watching Smallville its nice to see this pop into my recommended

Great show!!
I never watched their old show because I was a bit to young to get into it at this point, but to me both these guys are really cool. Really nice guys here. Tom was always a cool guys. He stayed in good shape.
Growing up is amazing. Im 30 now. And ive been watching all the shows i wanted to as a kid but never got to
These interviews are breaking my heart. This show was so important to me and to hear all the stuff that happened behind the scenes.
Uh..you need to see what Chloe was doing to women
@@JoshuaKevinPerry I’m a little aware and it’s horrific.
Honestly you guys killed it such a dope Superman show.
Hi Mr. Mosley, you look super chill. Glad I found this vid.
Oh wow!
I didn’t know Micheal Rosenbaum had a podcast and a youtube channel, this is awesome!
I do declare, I've always relied on the kindness of strangers. :D love you Tom.
Tom was great in Smallville. Would love to hear his take on the no flights, no tights rule; along with if he would ever wear the suit and if he knows how passionately the fans want to see him as Superman full suit.
Also Michael was awesome in Urban Legends!
I just rewatched all 10 seasons back to back.
One of my favorite TV Series! 😎👍✝️❤️🦸♂️
U both got it !
I used to listen to the soundtrack to smallville all the time. Brings me right back.
i love you tom, and michael. best lex and clark combo ever
Tom is unrecognizable.
My career goal is to tell you two personally how much you impacted my life. I am a Beverly Hills Hollywood attorney representing actors now because of you two.
Michael taught me to chase my dreams. Tom kept me grounded.
So much love.
Can't forget John G either
really? good for you bro, am i the only one who didn't realize that was Tom Welling cause it just doesn't look like him anymore i know he's older but still. having said that, my favorite role of Michael's is i'd say Urban Legend (1998) that's where i saw him first you can tell in that film he clearly had fun making it. even in the behind the scenes on the dvd of it since i bought it when it came out he was having fun,
i haven't seen all of smallville just season 1 and part of season 2 the only reason is i lost track what the hell was going on that's all
@@rolandofgilead43 sent my best friend a picture of Tom at ComicCon and he said the same thing. I kind of like it--he was in Lucifer for a season too
@@joshualastine7666 i've never seen that show before to be honest. i dunno if he's had work done and i hope he didn't i hope it's just that his hair is different but than Michael i didn't at first realize it was him at first either only cause he's older and i hadn't seen him in anything in years to be fair as well
That’s really your career goal?
Tom change in 20 years became so expressif talking about him in every tv show he was shy and exhausted but he is always gentle andnice
Nonne can DO à serie like Smallville again
Mike and Tom getting casted as Lex & Clark was pure genius.
Best show ever
Omg!!!! My wife and I love you both so much!! It took us a minute to really that this is you Michael!!! Woah!!! You guys were my childhood!!
I recently researched all of it so amazing!!!
I watched this show religiously, and boy did the producers milk it for all its worth and then some. The last few seasons felt like watching a bad investment, afterall I had put so much time into it and couldn't stop now, had to know if they concluded ANY if the story lines. Thanks for all the great memories. And a Happy New year 💖
I liked season 9 to be honest. Season 10 for me was really weak, and the second half of season 8 was really rough as well. Season 7 had a couple great episodes but mostly, it was bad.
I was binging the show this year with my best friend. We stopped halfway in season 8. It been two months. I just can bring myself to finish it.
I loved Smallville as soon as it premiered. Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor rates , to me, among the top three interpretations of the character, along with John Cryer in Supergirl and Clancy Brown's voicing of Luthor in Superman-The Animated Series. By the way, I really like that Indiana Jones-Raiders maquette off to the right.
I still think Rosenbaum was the best live action lex ever should’ve brought him back for the Snyder verse instead the horrible casting choice they made
rosenbaum's lex is hands down the best. john cryer? wtf are you smoking
Gene Hackman ftw
Gene Hackman and even Kevin Spacey(the movie itself wasn't good tho) were both amazing....... but Rosenbaum's Lex is the first Lex that comes to my mind, when I hear the name of that character....... that last scene between Lex and Clark was more electrifying, than entire last three seasons of the show
Clark and lois' first season lex was good for the time.
I love Smallville I get such a rush of nostalgia when ever I watch the earlier seasons. Smallville was the first show I watched outside of cartoons when I was a pre-teen
Counting on each other works when you're with good people. Good for them.
I love that Michael Rosenbaum started this podcast series love seeing this side to him and being able to chat with old co-stars too :)
These guys man 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I grew up on “Smallville” y’all were amazing!!! Any ways I would really like for y’all to read “Destiny’s Crucible” by Olan Thorensen. You and Tom would be perfect for the show if it is every made! Tom would be perfect for the character Mark and you,Michael, would be perfect for the role of the Hetman stent. PLEASE look into it, it is by far my favorite book series there are so far seven in the series and 9 in the universe!
53 shows have made it 10 or more seasons, still a great achievement.
I keeping watching clips of these guys reminisce about their time on Smallville, and I have never seen the show. I look forward to fixing that.
love the content
I never really got to watch Smallville as a teen cause I was busy with football (soccer) or fishing, friends and all that. But when I did sit down to watch it, I loved it! I remember loving how warm the colors on the show was, how Lana was just stealing my heart and I wanted to go to America haha! Im rewatching the show fully now and I love it! Right back to having a crush on Lana!
Best Lex and Clark ever seriously, You guys killed it
How could I get an autograph by you two? I've seen all 10 seasons 4 times on the 5th with the 20th anniversary edition. I know you guys have lives but I would love to have something with your autographs on it and Lionel Luther of course you guys made that show. Greatest performances 👏 🙌
Love hearing them chat as actors, rather than promoting the show. A new perspective now.
Its weird that I started watching Smallville on Hulu just a week ago and now this video happened
Smallville kept me sane my first enlistment spent 3 of 4 years overseas watched it multiple times lol
