All it takes for the acoustasonic to get its price lowered is to replace the active electronics with passives. A electric pickup at the bridge (it can be a single coil or a humbucker that can be split) and a accoustic pickup (sorry, im not an accoustic expert. All i know is that some accoustics have passive stuff in them that allows them to be plugged into an amp, and the sound that comes out is just the bare tone of the actual instrument with no eqing or whatever). The 5-way blade switch will be swapped in favor of a 3-way, which will switch between the electric, accoustic, or both. The volume knob will obviously never go away, and the blend knob will be replaced by a more traditional tone knob that only affects the electric pickup. If the pickup is a humbucker, the tone knob can also have a push-pull funtion to split the coils. I hope you like my idea for a simpler/cheaper accoustasonic.

I guess that's the point. They wanted to show that the electric sounds on the Acoustasonics are good enough to sound like this. But yes, of course dedicated electrics still offer more tonal quality and variety for electric tones. It's a compromise, but especially the Strat-version seems to offer quite a decent electric tone...

No acoustic sounds on this. If they had a regular strat and tele they would have sounded better. They still sound good!
