**Updates & Corrections** 1. one stand out feature I failed to mention is the built in bass management that allows for high-pass to your main speakers. 2. during the SB3000 comparison I said the E110 can play louder, while it does play some freq louder than the SB3000 others are dead even and the SB3000 is louder at other freq so it's not as cut & dry as I made it sound. 3. when referring to the front baffle being cast into the basket I believe they are manufactured separately and joined together at some point in the manufacturing process but I'm not 100% on this. Reach out to JL if you're curious please as my main focus is the products performance.
@John Rogers chill out man it's just a subwoofer, I posted the pinned comment with the correction literally a few minutes after the video went live so I'm really not seeing why you feel the need to harp on a mistake that has already been clarified.
@John Rogers My man, I only have 10k subscribers, this channel loses around $10,000+ a year and my discord is free and you think I do this for money? This must be one of the first times you're watching my content. The revenue from this channel won't even cover the gas for my car. I'm literally one of the few people on here that really doesn't care about the money but you're welcome to believe what you like. Don't take my word for it, feel free to google it and you'll see the average channel with 10k subs doesn't make jack shit. You have 2 options, realize you're 100% wrong about me and turn that attitude around and enjoy the show or walk away thinking you've got me all figured out. I don't care either way but I'm not going to engage in a conversation with baseless accusations about my character with a stranger on the internet.
This is my favorite review of all time! I don't know how you could have possibly done a better job explaining and describing the characteristics in great detail. I always find the comparisons quite valuable also. Other than hearing it for myself I can't imagine getting a a better feel for what to expect. Thanks for another great review. I always appreciate your knowledge and delivery of the facts it's such a coherent and transparent way
Thank you!! This was a tough one for me, I really wanted to make sure it was crystal clear. Based on the comments it looks like it was super clear so I'm really happy with the result :)
absolutely not, Velodyne is good in memory but I have tested their subs as little as 2 years ago and they are terrible, everyone just remembers from 20 years ago. Velodyne subs made a lot of bass in a small package but they were the most monotone subs I've ever heard.
jl audio has a distinct smooth tone to it's subs, personally I prefer a sq sound for subs but they aren't usually as bottom heavy as the JL. It's fun to switch back and forth between SQL and SQ, but If I had to choose I think the JL is a good compromise.
Thank you for a detailed review and comparison! I read many rave reviews of JL Audio subs and I'm impressed with the design and engineering employed. I have an older REL Q108E sub and a impressed with its performance.
I have two of these running through a Yamaha Aventage RX-A3080 that for music is Pure Direct mode with biamped B&W CM10 S2 floor standing speakers. Thank God I described the sound I was looking for when I bought them as " Punchy, like I want to feel the kick drum in my chest, like when I'm at a concert live". That is exactly what these do! Thank you for sharing this review so others will know the quality of this brand!
As usual, another top notch+ review. But it's your comparisons which are increasingly valuable. To actually talk about which characteristics of one versus the other stands out, or how better one sub can be used is just gold. Your channel is quickly becoming the reference standard for subwoofer knowledge. - - - Never personally auditioned these smaller JLs but within the high-end audio sphere I always much preferred the JLs over the RELs (when listening to 2 subs with the main L&R channels). Reason being is that they filled out the sound much better than the weaker bass of the RELs and never had to break a sweat doing so... they were just much more impactful than the RELs when integrated with a full range floor stander, but still had excellent control, accuracy and tone. Anyway just another superb a video entry into your catalog of subwoofer knowledge / experience! Bravo.
@ James Caldwell, you should try hearing the Rel Predator then. That would change your view regarding weak bass from a Rel. I have to keep the gain pretty low on them. They are fantastic for music and movies.
Hey thanks James!! I think liking the heavier JL/SVS sound or the more SQ focused REL/Rythmik sound is just personal taste and there is no right or wrong. REL is not weak sounding by any means, it just doesn't carry that heavy tone that JL/SVS has, there's a good chance that's a big part of the sound that you prefer and that's one of the biggest differences between SPL & SQ subs.
@@NemoPropaganda No understands subs like you, I must say most just gloss over the differences of SPL vs SQ and think a 18in will sound the same a 10in just louder. Most of it comes from the Home Theater influencers that don't get the SQ and focus on only SPL or that faster subs are a myth.
@@BrianGarside yeah, the HT crowd has become a bit jaded in recent years but I understand their perspective. They don't listen to the same songs 1000+ times, they watch 2+ hour movies and rarely repeat the same movie so they don't have an ideal reference the same way the music guys do. They're not listening to a bass guitar for example and looking for realism, they're looking for an explostion to feel like its in the living room. With that said, I have seen a few theater guys upgrade to more SQ focused subs and were extremely surprised with the difference but yeah most of them just want 130+dB at 20hz :)
Just had a subwoofer demo of multiple setups and brands. Rel, svs and JL audio. Where I first thought I would go for a svs sb3000, when hearing the jl audio. This thing blew the svs out of the water. Even 2 svs micros didn't hold a candle to the e110. The sound, control and speed is insane on the JL audio. Also better than Rel. JL will def be my next sub. I watch both movies and listen to all kinds of music. This thing is perfect.
JL isn't better than REL per se, it's a different style of bass, much stronger, more in your face, still quick & dynamic but much more ready to rip your face off while REL is more enhanching the experience with more nuance detail that JL crushes. They're both outstanding but for different people. I like both a lot but inch closer to REL for my personal taste. As far as JL vs SVS I totally agree, SVS is great but JL is the better albeit much more expensive version of the same sound.
Thank you for sharing your feedback about the JL e110. I'm in the process of getting one and was considering a SVS SB 3000, SVS 3000 mircro, GoldenEar SuperSub X, and Definitive Technology DN12. I actually haven't heard a JL e110 and only heard the GoldenEar SuperSub X which I thought sounded great. This review and your feedback had helped me decide to get the JL e110. This is the best review on this sub on RUclips and without it I might be buying a different sub. 👍👍👌 Thank you!
-Absolutely solid. I have Magnepans 1.7i's. The dealer is Audio Emporium in Wisconsin. He matched this Sub to these speakers. I got home in my sound studio and I had serious floor vibration. I contacted JL and they called me within an hour of my email. The Tech Support Engineer used be a Dealer for Magnepans . He 1. Understood my issue and recommended Block from Lowe's to support the Sub. Great results. 2. he spent 1 hour with me on the phone. He sent a me document that is not in the manual to help me with Two Chanell phase alignment as I have Two Channel Mcintosh MC2500 500 watt per channel amp. It is absolutely the choice that you can feel the base in your chest. I put this sub on a 4 wheel floor dolly and moved around with 25 foot cables to find the sweet spot. This sub disappears as he mentions in this review. My music now the NEW NEW music again. It that makes it so much worth it as I am now hearing things I did not hear before. I have a Mobile Fidelity album of Dark Side of the Moon. The base is so mad sick with this sub and the Magnepans scream as I run from my MC Preamp to the sub then back to the main Les the 80 hz that I leave in the sub. 1200 watts . Now the Magnepans get the full exposure of the 500 watts coming from the MC2500. Yes 2 months I am better than pleased
@@pjpucci I'm guessing your tech guy at JL was Randy? That dude really knows his stuff and is extremely helpful & passionate about bass. He's a great guy!
Hello Nemo, I like listening to your reviews. You are so real, so keep doing what you are doing and thanks for being honest. The things in todays world there are no Stereo Stores like the old days and that is sad because people real can't compare or even listen to different products. So keep doing what you doing. Darrylk
They did it as a professional courtesy so the review could happen. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to review the sub since I don't review discontinued products.
Hey Nemo I have a situation where I have to place the sub within a cabinet... would you recommend this JL as a "front-firing" sub over other designs (dual side / bottom / front and bottom)?
yo! hard to say how it'll turn out, I'd just try it and see what happens. The E110 has good rubber footers that should help avoid transferring vibration to the console and a good amount of setup options for phase to help you get dialed in.
I’ve owned a JL Audio E112 for my home theater setup and was overall impressed with it’s size to output ratio. I ended up wanting more low end output and a second subwoofer. Sold it to my brother to match his e112 and I ended up getting 2 Definitive Technology DN15’s and they shake the house, but they take up a ton of space, 2’x2’x2’
Did you get CEA2010 measurements when you had the JL? You mention output and SPL a lot but there's no numbers. Interesting to compare it to the SVS 3000 and SB2000 Pro as well as some Rhytmiks. You mention these but it's not clear where each lands at different Hz
The SB3000 comment was an error and corrected in the pinned comment. Outside of that this being primarily a 2.1 stereo youtube channel I don't worry too much about maximum output nor maximum extension. I am more focused on the tonal character as it relates to 2 channel listening. There are many CEA measurements of many subs you can look up and you will find JL Audio is always putting out incredibly good numbers despite how small the cabinets are.
Reading the responses , makes me realize how important space is to some people and thats why we need to bring back the speaker tables of say the 60's era they made some hi end tables with good wood and marble tops , and 15" subs ,in fact that reminds me ,I have a pair that are screaming for a modern sub upgrade .
@@NemoPropaganda Empire Royal Grenadier 9000m , I'm thinking of putting two jl 13w7's in them , youre describing sub qualitys is very interesting , accurate reproduction of sound is important , imo in general systems are missing midbass details if they just use a sound bar and a sub , I think too many times low bass sub's are expected to cover a wider basd spectrum than its made to handlr imo ,
@@NemoPropaganda I'm very impressed with youre knowledge of vintage auido and thanks for youre advice . Have you ever herd them in good working condition ?
@@jacobclark89 I have not, I'm not super familiar with vintage actually, moreso the 13w7 and the tremendous pressure it puts on a cabinet. It's not uncommon for 13w7 cabinets to built with 2" front baffles and 1" walls. Those vintage cabinets often used thinner wood which added some enjoyable resonance to the sound but absolutely cannot handle the pressure of a modern day subwoofer driver.
Have you heard any SPL subs that can compete in the SQ category of say, a Rel T/9x? As in, even at $5k can an SPL sub compete- or does it just keep giving you more and more SPL? I’m sure some brands try to do a good job of both, but I’m trying to figure out how to find an SPL sub company that makes a high-end enough model to compare with the SQ of Rel. Is it simply time for two different subs?
It doesn't work that way. It's like asking for a speaker that is rolled off and also bright at the same time. What aspects are you associating with SPL that you are wanting or think are missing from a T9X? That might help me better answer your question.
Hey Nemo, i would love your advice on something.. So, i have an Accuphase E380 amplifier and Dynaudio Special 40 speakers (and zero experience in subs). I am looking to make my system sound bigger since i cannot have towers in my room - wife objects firmly :( - I like the S40 and thought than adding a sub is maybe a better option to through 5k to upgrade to another bookshelf speaker, and still feel the sound is not as "big" as i would like. So, since i cannot audition with my speakers theJL E110 vs Rel T9x , can you recommend what u think goes better with the Dynaudio between the 2? I never listen to rap/hip hop and don;t consider myself basshead-i think , but i hope for an upgrade in the overall sound quality of my system and a sense of bigger scale, closer to towers. So, what would you recommend ? Thank you my friend..
@@NemoPropaganda Single ,strictly - my wife would kick me out of the house if I considered 2. Also , the form factor of KEF KC62 is very appealing , so, between the 3 what would u choose for musicality and speaker integration? Thank u my friend
@@s37en_gr all 3 are really good subs but for different reasons. The T9X will sound the best and integrate in a natural way that enhances everything, the JL will bring the most slam to the table and still integrate well but draw some attention to the bass region, it's a fucking sledge hammer for people who like bass that aggressive, more for the bass head imo. The KC62 is all about great extension in a compact form factor. As far as tonal character goes I'd say the T9X would match the Special 40 the most for whatever that's worth. Hope that helps.
Awesome review. I already own dual KEF KC62 for 2.2 sat-sub set up with Vivid S12. The S12 doesn’t play that loud and I have been more than satisfied. I am getting a pair of FinkTeam Kim which will play louder. Do you think that the E110 or D110 will be a good match? Or do you think the KC62 will keep up? Thanks
It's hard to say since i have not heard those speakers but my advice is save money for now and keep the subs you ahve, play with the new speakers for awhile with your dual KC62 and see how you like. If it doesn't work out you can always upgrade later. Personally I loved having a dual KC62 setup.
I have 2 D110 and I love them in my stereo. They are fairly articulate and hit well. That being said, if you can afford it get two E110. They are significantly better. I chose two D110 over one E110.
Hi Craig, i try not to review such large and heavy subwoofers. I will on occasion but it's not something I can do very often also they are very expensive and my channel is very small so I don't think they will send a review sample.
Would something like this be good for a living room home theater situation? I see a lot of people recommend vented subs for HT, saying that there's no difference in speed, tightness, etc, but it seems to me that sealed would be less boomy.
Yeah a lot of people on the forums are crazy. Sealed subs are great, you'll have less output but they're also a lot smaller than ported subs so that's no surprise.
Great review.I picked up the speaker box 5 brand new on reverb for 200 bucks there on there way.Could not pass up that deal after I had saw your review on them.
I have 2x t5x, but I feel like I miss the kickbass punsh a bit while they sound awesome. Using them with line and Marantz audessey. Do you think that a sq subwoofer like this gives the kickbass punch? Or maybe it would be a certain frequency that needs a boost for the "gut punch"?
you might just prefer a little boost around that area. Bass drum can be as low as 30hz and as high as 80hz depending on the mix but generally they're around 50hz so make sure your crossover is set high enough to enjoy those frequencies. If you need more help try contacting the dealer you bought them from. They should be able to help you get them dialed in.
@@NemoPropaganda thanks. The processor (Marantz sr6015) boosts 30hz(which the t5x is low in) , I wonder if that takes away from the 50ish region. In your reviews you don't use processing to get a flat response right? While a flat response sounds good, I wonder if it takes away the character.. Since I use it for movie as well, it's a bit of a problem.. compromise wise.
@@MT-eb2dx why don't you use it the way REL intends? Highlevel from amp to speakers setup for music, LFE from processor to LFE input setup for movies. LFE and Highlevel have independant gain admustment so you can connect both at the same time and have each one setup perfectly :)
@@NemoPropaganda The crossover knob works for both, so I can't have it at 100hz, which is best for my sourrounds but for stereo it's 80 Hz. Plus I had the feeling that LFE and high level adds up in movies. Maybe I should experiment some more, but placement is not ideal, which favours audessey..
@@MT-eb2dx using LFE input bypasses the internal xover. You maybe have it mixed up with line input which still uses the internal xover. Yes highlevel will still function giving your mains a fuller sound and lfe will handle the effects channel for bass. This is one of the major benifits of rel. Trust me, try it :)
Thank you so much for the review. I now know what I am going to get next. Just out of curiosity, can we use two subs, one for SQ and the other for SPL, and blend them together to get the best of both worlds? I am using a pair of SB3000s with the S400 MK2 powered by the I150. I find it lacking the oomph I want with hard-hitting bass that hits your chest hard. Having said that, I am also looking for SQ in the sub, can I get a single Rhythmik sub and a JLA E110 blend and put those subs in the back of the room together with the pair of SB3000s in the front to pressurize the room? The room is 12 x 23 x 8 and is treated.
Hello, first of all, plz sub if not already, I'm almost at 20k, on to your question, short answer is no, SQ & SPL subs cannot mix, it's like having a truck that is super comfortable, if you do that then it can't tow or haul anything because the suspension is too soft. Long answer is I don't think that's what you want. I've been doing this for a long time, based on everything you've said I think what you really want is a larger sense of scale. A pair of SB3000's would satisfy most people but you still want more, you want that overwhelming almost car audio levels of force & bass baring down on you, such can only be achieved with larger subs. Good news is you don't have to break the bank to accomplish that, you just have to be willing to have larger subs so before I ramble on more are you willing to go for larger subs or do you have space constraints? We can get close with smaller subs but it will cost a lot more money.
Slightly off topic but what do you think of jl audio when it comes to bass quality in car audio? I've not had one in years but remember then sounding clean. I'm going down the 8inch route to save space
car audio is extremely dependant on the enclosure, car, and to a lesser extent the amplifier. WIth that said I went on the same 8" journey, I was sick of not having a trunk and coming from a vented 12" I knew I was in for a serious challenge. JL Audio car subs are great but the price is bonkers. I knew for an 8" to satisfy me it needed to be a serious one and capable of taking serious abuse so my 8" options were the JL Audio W7 AE, Morel Ultimo Titanium, and Hertz ML 2000.3 but I could not bring myself to spend $1000 on an 8" driver worrying I may not be satisfied so I just got the smaller version of what I already owned which was the Memphis Mojo MJM812. I had a variety of custom boxes made and settled on one that was .8 net tuned to 35hz, used a Helix mono amp and holy hell am I happy with the result. No it's not a 12" but I'm older now and don't need crazy output, I wanted deep bass at reasonable volumes and I'm absolutely satisfied. For reference I don't listen above 85dB and my car is an Audi S7 which technically is a hatchback so it's a little easier to get good bass. Fair warning, forget about the idea of a sealed 8", I tried it and it was cool having such a tiny box but it just doesn't have the needed output. Hope that helps, lmk if you want my box guys contact, he ships and is reasonably priced.
FYI Iloved that driver so much I would later go on to install that same Memphis Mojo 8" in 3 of my friends cars and a fourth one in my friends boat. All 4 of them absolutely love the perofrmance and compact enclosure.
Great video. I have a rel s510 and I'm getting that bug man! Lol. So I was wondering about JL. I heard good things about the Fathom line. That 12" f112 🤘🏼
Have a oval shaped 20x18 room, rounded on one side with two windows, other end is similarity angled with another window 9 ft ceiling Apt on 2nd floor of a 6000 ft 1896 house. Sony str az5000es reciever, klipsch 8000ii, older def tech bookshelfs for surround. Older def tech center. Is this two much sub for a mostly HT set up
That's a good size room, I don't think this will be too much but everyones taste for bass is a little different. I think this would be great, some people may prefer a pair but 1 should be plenty.
Which would be better these or Sb3000..these two cost around same in my country. Using for movies mostly wants that powerful cheat slam and all..which one of these serve me well?
I just picked up one of these E110 on sale. I’m pairing it with my SVS Ultra bookshelf and it blends in very well with crossover frequency of 80 Hz and below. I was expecting the bass to be overwhelming, however if the volume is set at modest level it is nice and tight, fast, and punchy. I think its a good choice if you listen to EDM, house, etc… I don’t need a second unit, however I’m thinking about getting another one as my end game subwoofer setup….
Hey man, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the dynaudio sub 6, one of the other reviewers changed from a JL sub to the sub 6, have you heard it before?
STAY AWAY! It has problems, known recalls, etc… DO NOT buy a used one. Yes I’ve heard it. They sounded great and both failed. Settings & menu system are horrendous 10/10 do not recommend.
@@NemoPropaganda another sub that I'm considering is the paradigm prestige 1000sw, an upgrade from my current paradigm studio sub 12 that I'm not particularly happy with (it's very slow at low frequencies). Are you familiar with the paradigm subs?
@@NemoPropaganda I've read many reviews about the JL E subs failing too, something about the amp. The sub 6 faults aside, how does it sound? It seems to be my only option to blend with my contour 20 speakers, the phase flips at the port tuning frequency, 32hz, and I'd rather not have to use a high pass filter on them. The sub 6 supposedly has a trick within its contour 20 preset that allows it to blend seamlessly. Maybe the recall faults have been corrected? I can get a pretty good price on a new unit, which has a 3 year warranty on amp, 5 years on drivers
Nemo, ever looked into power sound audio? There's not much coverage of their products but they seem to be good value. Their big 18 and 21 inch designs look interesting, and I'd like to see reviews and measurements of them.
I like the review. Wanting to watch the others. Got me curious now what your impressions will be if you get a chance with JTR or Power Sound Audio or even HSU subwoofers.
I learn a lot from you (thanks) and I am in the proces of getting information on what subwoofer to check out and then buy one as a part of my Kef r3 setup. I am a SQ guy like you say you are. So what do you think is one of the best SQ subwoofers? Good luck with the channel and keep up the good work! Greetings from the Netherlands
R3 Meta are very flexible in terms of subs can you can use just about any style of sub and they'll sound pretty darn good. If you want the ultimate in delicacy & fidelity that would be something like the REL T/X range but I also think many other subs will sound good with them too like Buchardt Sub10, Sigberg 10D, even KEF's own KC62, REL is fantastic but you'll give up some extension in the lowest registers to get that amazing SQ unless you go for something like their s510, ultimately you have a bunch of options. I generally ask people to narrow down their choices to 2-3 before I can really help because there are so many options and I could write 10 pages of subwoofers options & pro's and con's and that would just be too much :)
Hey Nemo your videos have been a BIG help! I have the rel tx9 now but thinking of adding a spl style sub for those times when I want to go back to my childhood bass head days! Do you think a svs pb2000 pro would intergreat with the rel ok? Wouldn't be running the svs all the time but occasionally wanting some in your face bass!
You want to keep SQ subs with SQ subs otherwise the heavier tone of the SPL sub will kill some of the nuanced detail of the SQ sub. If you want the stark contrast the PB2000 will do it but I wouldn't personally run REL & SVS at the same time. I'd run one or the other so maybe grab a more SPL sub and run it when you're in the mood but turn off the T9X when you do that. That'll make setup easier too.
I've got a pb2000 pro and I'm gonna be looking for a new sub soon with a bit more detail and distinction, it certainly pressures the room well but isn't as articulate as I'd like.
@@slyfoxx8540 I’m in the same boat, I have two of them and after helping a friend set up a couple Martin Logan Dynamo’s I realized my subs sound like crap lol. Figuring out what I want to replace them with now. Deciding between the JL e110 and the rythmik f12se… it’s a tough choice. I can get two f12’s for basically the price of a single e110
@@dmitris77 from what I've read from other people's comments I'd get the rhythmiks, others have also said the jl's can suffer from amp failure quite a bit. Also the presentation is a bit diffrent with the rhythmiks not bringing as much attention to themselves where as the jl's produce tonnes of thick bass although according to the specs they don't go as low as the rhythmiks. Personally I'm gonna be trying out the arendal 1723 1s along with they're bookies when they get them back in stock. Being in England means rhythmiks are a no for me. Good luck.
Hi, thank you your very good descriptions of what you experience! I have a question. My listening room is 10 by 12. Should I go with 2 Rel T5x’s, 2 Rel T zero’s or 1 KEF kc62? I have bookshelf monitors (GR Research NX Studios. Thanks for any input! Steve
Did you watch my Tzero review? I like dual T5X a lot, I like a single KC62 a lot too. Dual T5X will give you some more information for delicate passages while the KC62 will give you a lot more extension and output so you just have to ask yourself what is more important to you.
Do you know what or any changes that JL did or did they just test it to make sure it was within specifications? Just curious if I'd find one on the used market also. Thanks for bringing us this great review.
Great job man....your reviews are very detailed, contain grear info, love it🤘 Btw: if you love cars that feels like you drive, you should try old/ classic cars, especially thouse who are slightly modified. 😊
Thanks for the nice review as always. May I know if the Focal Sopra 1 can blend with KEF92? Feel free to name subs that can work with Sopra please. Thanks in advance!
Hi! I have not heard the Sopra No1 but I do have the Kanta No1 but I am still experimenting with it. But in my experience it seems KEF KC62 and KF92 are very good at blending with most speakers.
Excellent review, you’ve given me more to think about. I’m upgrading the amp modules in my dual SVS SB13 Ultras to 1200w RMS. These are placed behind my seating position at the back of the room due to space constraints at the front stage. I initially wanted to pair them with a single Kef KF92 but since decided on dual SB3000’s for the front stage due to their compact size. I’m now wondering whether the JL Audio E110 will be a better match given they have more output than the 3000s and could be on par with my sb13 ultras (more like SB4000s with the upgraded amp modules). So, two JL Audio e110s at the front, two SB4000s (13 ultras) at the back. Do you think that would be a better match? The e110 are $700 more than the SVS 3000 which I don’t mind shelling out if it means they’ll be better matched.
Hey Dennis, so its kind of like I said in the video, JL really is a natural upgrade for anyone who likes the SVS sound and has the budget for JL. Anyone who is happy with SVS will for sure be happy with JL. It's like if you're happy with a Ford Mustang GT, then for sure you will also enjoy a Hellcat :).
@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for this and for your review, perfect timing. Can’t thank you enough for the work that you do and the amazing content you push out. Thanks again, Nemo. Love your channel my friend.
thank you very much for this review. I love the way you explain and describe. I paired this subwoofer with Kanta 1. Do you have any recommendations for settings (crossover)?
Excellent setup, I also have the kanta no1 and like them very much with this subwoofer specifically :). As far as x-over settings they will be very different depending on your room bro so I can't really help with that but I usually start at 50hz.
thank you bro. That's a tough call, you could literally buy 3 HT-1205 for the price of a single JL E110. The answer kind of comes down to how much money you're comfortable spending since ultimately you're going to want a pair either way and a pair of E110 is $4200.
@@Bryan-hd7nm You're talking about spending a good chunk of money, both companies have dealers nationwide, can you swing by one and demo them? You can also hop in my free discord, there are a few other guys in there that have heard both and one guy who just got a pair of E112. If you can't then my answer is this: I'd always rather have 1 higher tier item instead of 2 mid tier items. They both sound clean but if I could only have one or the other I'd go for the JL E110 because I know my room does just fine with a single sub. Others may choose the pair of 1205 because their room needs dual subs to sound right but seriously hop in my free discord and get some feedback from these guys. Link is in the description.

Nice review. JL is very famous brand for subs as they only make subwoofer and all of them is sealed subwoofer. Yet not many review about JL subs even though most of JL subs is very old design, most of the JL subs have been launch since 2011 and still on sale till today. Maybe look forward for you reviewing more JL subs, dominion, fathom and ultimate gotham....hahaha...
@@NemoPropaganda I see, now I get it why not many JL sub review. For D110, this will be interesting, as spec wise very similar to E110 but with a quite cheaper price. Cannot wait for the review. Thanks Nemo Propaganda 👍
Nice review i was waiting for it! A JL e112 and the SVS sb4000 comparison wil be great, there are no benchmarks online for the sb4000 I think it digs deeper than the sb13ultra and is on par with an JLe112.
I own svs sb 3000s and 4000. I'm going to the JL Dealer today to demo subs. I think you are probably correct that the sb4000 has similar output to the E112. But the quality of the bass and the note to note distinction start-stop quality of the JL is going to be on a much higher level as Nemo mentioned in the video having reviewed both brands. I know he compared it to the 3000 and not the 4000 but since I own both of those I can tell you that the 3000 is much more Musical and has better sound quality than the 4000 but yes the 4000 does have more output then the 3000 and probably on par for output with e112
@@joshdekubber3631 Nice too hear from a sb4000 and sb3000 owner, i have an sb2000 in a small room it sounds amazing. The arendal 1723 1S looks also verry good Nemo reviewd it.
@@joshdekubber3631 I own two SB-13 Ultra’s that will soon be upgraded with the STA-1200D amp modules which should bring them on par with the SB4000. Your feedback post demo on how the e110 or e112 compares to the SB4000 and which of the two JLs you think will pair better with dual sb4000s for a quad sub setup would be super helpful and greatly appreciated. I’m just looking for a pair of subs that have a smaller footprint than the SB4000 but will integrate well with them in a HT setting.

Thank you for this review! Waiting to move in my home and unbox my Klipsch Cornwall IVs... need a sub to watch the new Top Gun with... What do you think about this E110 vs E112? Probably going to get two subs either way...
It was a professional courtesy so that this video could be made as accurately as possible. I would not have made this video if the sub was out dated as I only review current model gear.
Excellent review, I have episode evolution subs and i recently bought svssb16, my sale reps was pushing me these JL subs over the svs. I got the svs because of the hype and review. I’m in day 2 with svs and running them on anthem mrx1140 and the only issue I’m having with them they are not picking up any bass on RUclips content like music video, movie trailers and so fourth. My evolution subs picked up all the bass on RUclips. Please let me know if you know anything regarding this. Im still in trial mode and if this issue is not fix it will be biggest drawback for me.
those evolution subs could have had a midbass bump that exaggerated certain effects. The SB16 is more linear with its bass, it may take some getting used to. Also that driver really needs to break in. At least 24 hours of hard play before you judge it. Can you leave it on while you're at work?
@@NemoPropaganda when you said leave it on for 24 hrs do you want me to play music continuously that’s bass worthy. I never been tech savvy, I’m building my home theater so everything is kind of new to me. I always been plug and play kind of guy, like sound bars with wireless subwoofer no problem. This was my biggest subs upgrade and I felt like my small evolution was much easier to deal with. I have my my anthem receiver set at +3 decibels for both subs and I have -10 decibels on the physical subs. I also disable LFE on the subs itself since it’s running every thing from the avr. Let me know what u think
@@Foxhound11 yeah, more high end stuff can be a little harder to setup, SVS has excellent customer service & tech support, don't hesitate to call them. They will be more than happy to help you get it dialed in. Yes I mean play bass worth music whil you're away, that will help the sub break in, doesn't have to be crazy loud either, around 75-80dB should be fine.
Word bro I was thinking of getting a JL Sub but I have a Rel Predators and I love it. Music and Movies wise. You help .e with that Choice I went with B&W Speakers
I thank you for your sacrifice of your time, and your ears! I think my ears would give up before I'm anywhere close to pushing the JL's max output. It's a brickhouse of a sub. If you've seen the new Batman movie, think of the new Batmobile.
@@NemoPropaganda I figured the e110 would be a good middle ground. My heresy 4’s are not exactly a super technical speaker, just a fun and exciting one. I figured a fast, fun sub would be a good pairing. Might also be good for more genres of music. I listen to everything, and there’s a chance hip hop, edm, pop, etc might sound better on the JL. Either way, should be an improvement over my old pb2000s. Btw, I ordered a REL s510 but someone from REL’s tech support literally told me I made a mistake and that the s510 doesn’t match well with super sensitive speakers like the Klipsch heritage line or anything above 95db. I was disappointed because I thought that might be the best of both worlds. Not a lot of people know that. They have whole articles about it on rel’s website.
@@dmitris77 maybe hop in the free discord, a few guys in there have klipsch speakers, I know rythmik has an option for high sensitivity speakers but I don't know much about the topic myself, discord.gg/nemopropaganda
@@NemoPropaganda Ok, I’ll sign up for discord tonight. But hey, I have one last one for you lol. I know how much you love these, but maybe this one is a fair comparison for once. If you were me, would you go with the E15HP2 or the HT1510? Let’s say you had to pick one lol
I know that this is not about REL but I will still ask and hopefully you get back to me. Will adding a Rel T/Zero MKIII to a T/5x be worth it if I can get it for $180? I listen to music at low volumes 60-70db.
At that price it’s certainly worth trying out. You can always sell it if you don’t like it. I did review the Tzero though if you haven’t already seen that.
This is the first time I've heard the word "Juicy" used to describe bass from a sub. lol (that's why I like the channel.) Not the JL Audio, but the REL audio comparison. If I could afford one now, I'd have a hard time not picking a JL Audio subwoofer. Expensive yes. Features yes. Quality Yes. Made in America - Hell Yes! I still believe America makes the best audio components in the world. As far as subwoofers I think RSL and Rhythmik and SVS make some off the best regardless of price. But overall JL Audio has the edge, and use only their own technology developed from the ground up in their subwoofers. No copy cat here.
in fairness RSL, SVS, & Rythmik aren't copying anyone either. RSL has a very unique approach to port design, SVS brought app based subwoofers to the masses at every price point, and Rythmik has their patented servo tech and drivers designed in house.
@@eyeshezzy it's not exactly a high-output design so most likely less cabinet material and a smaller motor section on the driver. It's a budget 15" at the end of the day. A HSU ULS-15 offers up substantially more and from a better brand.
I have a e110 and a sb2000 in my ht setup. Great output but things can start to sound a bit indistinct on the lower end. Thinking about swapping for dual Arendal 1723 1s. Anyone experience both?
That has not been my experience with either brand. Do you think maybe the issue is mixing of the two brands? JL is much quicker than SVS, I can't see two mixing well. Disconnect the SVS and just run the JL first to see if that fixes things and then try the opposite. With that said a pair of 1723 1s would be epic!!! The 1723 is less the SPL presentation and more in the middle leaning towards the side of SQ so it has a very clean sound.
Hey Rob, I still have it but I don't have any plans to sell it but so the saying goes everything has a price, I surely wound't turn down a million dollars :)
@@NemoPropaganda hahaha I appreciate the reply and unfortunately I don’t have a million bucks laying around and if I did I’d probably get 2 12 inch Fathoms 🤷🏼♂️😂. Anyways if you ever decide to part with it let me know. I’ve been looking for another white one for over 2 years.
@@Jluong538 yeah I'm sorry bro I don't know. unless JL sends me a review sample or I find a killer deal on a current model fathom it's not something that'll happen.
I'll start covering B&W when they start rating their wattage in RMS, currently all their subs are rated in peak power and I feel that is a deceptive marketing practice and do not support it. For the prices they charge I think it is fair to ask them to use the industry standard RMS wattage rating.
Love the review, So I want to assume that this subwooofer is very similar to the 10W7? It looks very similar,. I know this might sound crazy but when the W7 first came out in 2002 , my husband put 4 10W7's in the back of a honda civic hatchback. Went to a DB drag event and hit 158.1 db with a enclosed box. so if this is going to be something like this, I know what he'll be buying soon.
Hey what's up Stacey! 158dB is no joke even by todays standards!! Granted the price to achieve those dB's has come down over the years. So to me it looks like one may be inspired by the other but they are 2 totally different drivers. The E110 driver looks to use a much longer stroke design with dual spiders and a totally different basket. It also appears the E110 driver can take a bit more wattage also as it's plate amplifier feeds it 1200w RMS. E110 and E112 are capable of monstrous bass for how small they are.
I had a rell when i was 17 i went from two 12 audiobahn now i have two monitor audio bronze 10 but i think i need to listen to a rell again jl audio are what they are but i need sq
Btw I love how the sub is a 10" at basically almost 2 grand in black ash. It's so comical that that's the finish I would order them in. The king of subs served in ash black. ( jokes aside for some reason I find black ash kind of good looking and I used to despise it ).
@@NemoPropaganda the black ash has a high quality textured vinyl wrap, unlike other subwoofer manufacturers like svs which have garbage wraps that won't last
I`ve just pulled an e-110 sub from my stereo system after the amp-section failed, my fault, the RCA plugs at the back took a knock while moving and when they "fell into" the amp they shorted out the whole thing, A new amp from JL will cost about as much as a s/hand SVS or similar sub, so I`ll relegate it to the shed until I can afford to repair it..
oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I will say buying a second hand SVS is like buying a second hand ford mustang after owning a corvette. Both are great but the corvette is on another level.
@@NemoPropaganda Well -one year on and finally it`s repaired !! - But do I use it on the S/sound or the stereo ?, I got lucky and found a Canadian guy online who has his own Audio Engineering Business, his hobby is repairing and restoring stereo gear - he sold me an Audio Lab 8000P amp for my new speakers and repaired the JL e-110. He`s gone right through it and it`s working better than I remember (maybe the new system has helped) - all friends should be like this guy 🙃😅
Hi Nemo , thanks for the supper review, my room size is 10x12ft with 9 ft celling, already having 2 Rel t5xs for few weeks now they are supper for music just love them thanks for your review on t5x that really helped but my family not liking them, while watching movies , so i like to go for one or two separate subs for movies hence my room is small I can only place 2 smaller subs (like kef kc62) on both side walls or 1 big E110, I dnt have a chance to audition them sadly here in my place , hence you have same room size can you guide me a bit to select a better solution for movies.
Hi bro, so the E110 is an absolute monster and capable of serious output for the size, the sound is of course extremely different than your T5X. The E110 is much more aggressive, if that's what you want you will love it! If you want something more like your T5X but with more output look at REL's HT1003 MK2. Another good compact solution with big output is the XTZ 10.17 EDGE or the JL D110. or if you need a slim sub the Arendal 1961 1S or 1723 1S shape might work in your space.
@@NemoPropaganda thanks Bro for all the suggestion and guide lines 🍺🍺🍺, I had explore each of them a little bit(not by audition, rather reading reviews and forum opinions),and decided to go with either two JL d110s or two kc62s ( price is same, for both, in India, i had watched your video on d110 as well , there you mention who needs kc62 very clearly but hence the price is same and kc62 has much smaller foot print, so little confused ). which one you think will be good in my room (size 10x12ft with 9 ft celling) will be used only for movies will 2, kc62s will not give enough impact for movies hence it too small.
Or should I increase my budget a little bit and go with one kc92. Your kf92 video is just tempting me into it 😊. Hence the price is almost the same, confused a bit, so dual kc62 or dual d110 or one kc92 , I already have dual t5x for music so this will be used only for movies in a 10x12ft small semi treated room.
@@monotoshmitra if you are looking for extreme output from a small package my recommendation remains the JL D110. The KC62 and KF92 are awesome for extreme extension where extreme output are not needed. Both are good, the JL is more aggressive sounding while the KEF options are a little more refined sounding so it just depends what you want.
I love your car explanation about @ 15:40. I can't agree with you more. I have 2020 BMW & an old 2008 BMW that I will never get rid of because of it's steering & suspension is tight & responsive. It was right before they switched to electric power steering & went soft on suspension. *Major off subject* 🤐 Anyway, it helped describe how a person best chooses subs (& speakers). Great video
hey double T, glad you enjoy the references!! Yeah those older BMW's drove totally differently! I drove an M Roadster once and damn near went through the windshield just from lightly tapping the brake! Those cars were so precise with everything!
Great video! Seems like the SVS SB16 besides weight/size would have been the better comparison at $2,300. I believe you have said in the past you've never heard it. Even the SB4000 at $1,800. You didn't say if you are keeping this subwoofer and if you are what system would you pair it with? Never really mentioned movie performance vs KEF92.
I heard the SB16 once in a showroom, never heard any of the 4000 series though. I don't usually cover movie performance too much but both will be very competent performers. Pick the KF92 for smaller rooms or quieter listening, pick the JL for larger rooms or louder listening. Undecided if i'll keep it or not. For now it is mine as I did purchase it solely for this review.
Would it be beneficial to run two subwoofers on the opposite sides of the range such as 1 Rel subwoofer and 1 JL subwoofer on the same system or would it end up just mudding up the bass?
I'm curious to try this one day as well, but I think you'd want the SPL sub crossed over around 30Hz. That would only give you one octave for that pricey sub (20-30Hz) but it would fill in what the REL can't really do with any authority. There isn't much music that goes there, but for source that plays it I think it would be an interesting setup to hear
Kind of. You can do that but you'd still want to use an SQ sub for the larger like a REL Predator or HT1205 or Rythmik E15 or F12, etc.... You want to keep SQ subs with SQ subs otherwise the heavier tone of the SPL sub will kill some of the nuanced detail of the SQ sub. Hope that helps answer your qeustion.
I have always found them to be great for LFE, but for the price there are so many better options. Their look and finish are certainly class leading and I think that is their appeal.
Just depends what you're after. If you want output generally associated with a larger sub with outstanding speed & control then JL is hard to beat but if you have space for a pair of 15's you certainly can save some cash and grab a cheaper pair of 15's.
Awesome review brother! I heard one of these in a massive room, and it filled and pressurized the entire space completely! Like didn't make sense to my mind from a physics standpoint lol. Hey any interest in reviewing one of the big REL subs? Something like the s/510 or s/812 my be that sweet spot between spl and sq. Have the 812 in a fairly small room, and depending on the output level, it can either be integrated and just be a smooth, beautiful extension of your speakers, or it can liquefy your face module 😅
Bro, once again, you’re the only one who gets SPL vs SQL. People pretend it’s one and the same. I still can’t believe that people don’t get all bass is not the same and bright/dark speaker analogy prevails. Please review Perlisten speakers and subs next. All the RUclips audio gurus love it, would love your take as well :)
Thank you bro! I don't have any relationship with Perlisten currently but maybe in the future. At $4000 for their cheapest sub I'm not sure too many people will be interested though.
**Updates & Corrections**
1. one stand out feature I failed to mention is the built in bass management that allows for high-pass to your main speakers.
2. during the SB3000 comparison I said the E110 can play louder, while it does play some freq louder than the SB3000 others are dead even and the SB3000 is louder at other freq so it's not as cut & dry as I made it sound.
3. when referring to the front baffle being cast into the basket I believe they are manufactured separately and joined together at some point in the manufacturing process but I'm not 100% on this. Reach out to JL if you're curious please as my main focus is the products performance.
I forgot to ask if I’m using RCA do I use both on the subwoofer or just 1?
@@HPMIKE55 depends, LFE output 1 cable, mono or summed subwoofer output 1 cable, preamp L&R output use both cables.

This is my favorite review of all time! I don't know how you could have possibly done a better job explaining and describing the characteristics in great detail. I always find the comparisons quite valuable also. Other than hearing it for myself I can't imagine getting a a better feel for what to expect. Thanks for another great review. Thank you!! This was a tough one for me, I really wanted to make sure it was crystal clear. Based on the comments it looks like it was super clear so I'm really happy with the result :)
This was a great review and comparison. One of the best I’ve seen and really explained the difference in so many things and companies. Very well done!
thanks James!
YOU KILLED THAT BRO!!! I don't think there's anything you could have done better in that video. NICE work!!!
The cost of the JL, it should be bother SP and SQ. Velodyne was such a company for example. JL is the modern equiv of Velodyne I find.
absolutely not, Velodyne is good in memory but I have tested their subs as little as 2 years ago and they are terrible, everyone just remembers from 20 years ago.
I really appreciate your reviews. You have a great review format and lots of useful information.
I appreciate that!
You’re reviews are very helpful.
Great reviews always!
thank you sir!
As usual, another top notch+ review.
But it's your comparisons which are increasingly valuable. To actually talk about which characteristics of one versus the other stands out, or how better one sub can be used is just gold.
Your channel is quickly becoming the reference standard for subwoofer knowledge.

Never personally auditioned these smaller JLs but within the high-end audio sphere I always much preferred the JLs over the RELs (when listening to 2 subs with the main L&R channels).
Bravo.
Which REL's? My Predators sure aren't weak. 😎
Great comparisons. Thanks! It confirms I made the right choice for me with the REL T9/x
Awesome, I'm happy to help in either direction! Sometimes it's about knowing what we don't want.
Great job and thank you for comparing thoughts on E15HP to E110 that’s my exact crossshop for mostly HT
Both will be dominant performers. Just depends if you want that more SQ or SPL sound.

Hello Nemo, I like listening to your reviews. You are so real, so keep doing what you are doing and thanks for being honest. I appreciate that
So does that mean you have decided to buy the E15HP2 from your buddy?
nah, I have too many subs already including 2 Rythmiks so can't really justify a 3rd one.
Ya know at times your presentation sounds like a rap. Love hearing your reviews. Keeping it real Nemo!
should I start a sound cloud?
I'm curious if / how much JL charged you to refresh your subwoofer and what they changed ??
Nice! I tried to get a def sub in for review but they don't respond to my emails #sadface
Jtr RS2 is a beast
Wow, your review was fantastic
glad you enjoyed it my bro!
Reading the responses , makes me realize how important space is to some people and thats why we need to bring back the speaker tables of say the 60's era they made some hi end tables with good wood and marble tops , and 15" subs ,in fact that reminds me ,I have a pair that are screaming for a modern sub upgrade .
those things were not cheap! With that said I've seen a few people use large subwoofers as end tables and I think that's a great idea!
@@NemoPropaganda Empire Royal Grenadier 9000m , I'm thinking of putting two jl 13w7's in them , youre describing sub qualitys is very interesting , accurate reproduction of sound is important , imo in general systems are missing midbass details if they just use a sound bar and a sub , I think too many times low bass sub's are expected to cover a wider basd spectrum than its made to handlr imo ,
@@jacobclark89 I wouldn't do that. Those drivers are pricey and I don't think those old cabinets could handle the stress.
Whats the difference between the E model to the D model. I have the D110
In what context are you asking?
Hey Nemo, i would love your advice on something..
So, i have an Accuphase E380 amplifier and Dynaudio Special 40 speakers (and zero experience in subs).
I am looking to make my system sound bigger since i cannot have towers in my room - wife objects firmly :( -
I like the S40 and thought than adding a sub is maybe a better option to through 5k to upgrade to another bookshelf speaker, and still feel the sound is not as "big" as i would like.
Hi Giorgo, are you looking for a single sub or dual subs?
Another great review is it possible to review the new MK x12+/x15+?
Oh nice! Leave an update in the discord when they arrive if you're in there :)

@@NemoPropaganda good to know, I had my finger on the trigger for one of those. Thanks for the advice
@@NemoPropaganda another sub that I'm considering is the paradigm prestige 1000sw, an upgrade from my current paradigm studio sub 12 that I'm not particularly happy with (it's very slow at low frequencies).

@@andrewpeel912 yeah bro, you dodged a bullet on that one.

HSU & PSA don't return my emails and JTR seems to only work with audioholics so most likely will never see me review any of those subwoofers.
Hey John, you'd have to ask them but I believe around 2019 they upgraded a lot of the caps they use.
Correct, caps are known to go out and cause issues which is why I’ll be sending my amp to jl soon,

@@dmitris77 there is a post comparing the two in the discord.
What does SQ subwoofer mean ?
SQ= Sound quality and SPL= sound pressure level.
Where did you get that stand? What model is it? Thanks
It's just the speaker stand for the Revel Concerta2 M16.
I mean, for next car, i'm looking at either a Mustang dark horse or a LEXUS ISF :) I just purchased the rythmik E15 last night.
I hope you can review Starke Subwoofers soon too 😅
Yes I've been holding off waiting on more reviews. Not bad a 15" for 700 bucks.
@@juandoe7802 yeah. The SW15..and also the SUB35... Not a lot of reviews on that one
Hi Isaac, I'm sorry but I don't have any plans to review their products at this time.
@@NemoPropaganda oh okay. I would have loved to see how they manage to keep their weight so low with such big drivers
@@eyeshezzy it's not exactly a high-output design so most likely less cabinet material and a smaller motor section on the driver. It's a budget 15" at the end of the day. A HSU ULS-15 offers up substantially more and from a better brand.
Is DMA basically a servo like thing?
DMA is not something the subwoofer has. It's a process they use during R&D to improve their designs.
Do still have this sub? I have one in white as well and I'm looking for a 2nd. Are you willing to sell it if you still have it?
Hey Rob, I still have it but I don't have any plans to sell it but so the saying goes everything has a price, I surely wound't turn down a million dollars :)
@@NemoPropaganda hahaha I appreciate the reply and unfortunately I don’t have a million bucks laying around and if I did I’d probably get 2 12 inch Fathoms 🤷🏼♂️😂. Anyways if you ever decide to part with it let me know. I’ve been looking for another white one for over 2 years.
@@robhedlund6692 yeah I hear ya! You're welcome to hop in my free discord and bug me about it periodically in case I change my mind :)
Can you review the JL fathom line?
Probobly not bro, those are a lot more expensive and I’m not tryna spend that much money right now.
I was wondering if the fathom line is more sq or spl?
@@Jluong538 yeah I'm sorry bro I don't know. unless JL sends me a review sample or I find a killer deal on a current model fathom it's not something that'll happen.
Maybe you van review the BOWERS & WILKINS DB4S
Yeah, I think it should have been real wood veneer instead.
@@NemoPropaganda That`s not a good sign - I hate Fords, GMH man all my life,
@@NemoPropaganda Well -one year on and finally it`s repaired !!
@@greyhound3561 excellent news!!
@@monotoshmitra only movies? Both will be amazing but D110 will be more forceful overall, go for D110!!!!
Want one,, 😋!
Excellent and insightful talk about taste Nemo,, 👍👍

Thank you sir I appreciate that.
Is this the smallest sub the JL offers?
No sir, the D110 and D108 are both smaller.

OK. lolz.
Agreed. Your statement is absolutely correct.
Just depends what you're after. If you want output generally associated with a larger sub with outstanding speed & control then JL is hard to beat but if you have space for a pair of 15's you certainly can save some cash and grab a cheaper pair of 15's.
I want one now
Awesome review brother!
Yes of course, it's just harder to get more expensive gear to review from most companies.
