This new developer series aims to give you a behind the scenes look at what goes into making a game of this scale in the Skyrim engine, how you get from a piece of concept art to game ready assets, the major milestones we’ve reached, the difficulties of working as volunteers with no additional funding and most importantly, to document the project’s evolution and growth until its final release.
With all that said, welcome to The Making of Skyblivion.

Finish the damn game
This looks like a AAA studio made it...well done!!!
I wonder if the borders of the new UI screens could be made to look a little more like the worn edges of parchment?
Not a huge fan of all the straight edges.
However, I know that things like that can be very difficult, and even then, once seen, it might not look as good as one hopes for.
I know you guys will do your best! : )

"It suffered from constant crashes and was ripe with bugs"
so basically a faithful recreation
Anyone who played Skyrim at launch knows that that's probably still higher quality than what Bethesda released.
@@msihcs8171 i tried to play skyrim at launch, but it crashed due to unsupported audio bitrate...
Boy if this isn't straight up fucking facts.
🤣
to be fair oblivion was less stable than skyrim
Incredible journey.
Cannot wait to play this when you're ready to share it's glory with the world ♥
Can't wait for high fidelity reeeee
Can't wait for a HD SSboy
Reee
Wowee
I cant wait woweee!!
This looks amazing. I was sceptical a few years ago that this would ever really finish but I genuinely can't wait to play this.
This guy sounds like Uriel Septim himself
I bet he plays the emperor in Skyblivion
@@Fastwalker27 Pretty sure the original voice acting is being used. Otherwise, this wouldn't be out for another 5 years.
Whoever did this voiceover could definitely be a voice actor.
He probably is a voice actor, Skyblivion's team has a lot of professionals in it.
He is, and great at it too! Give Ryan Cooper a google or checkout his website from the description
@@Rebelzize Ryan Cooper... Wasn't he in the pro street?
Meanwhile, Farengar Secret-Fire exists.
Not a bad idea!
"It suffered from constant crashes, and it was ripe with bugs"
Wow, even in v0.1, they were really getting the authentic Elder Scrolls features in
Bro i laughed at this way too hard, it wasn't even like a phenomenal joke but it just caught me off guard, congratulations 😭
@Rj Simas : Although I knew what was coming at _"It suffered from...",_ the word _"authentic"_ is also the exact point where I started laughing.
"It just works"
Lmao.
@Ayla Alya you said it twice
"Free of charge" ... where can I throw money at this?
Sadly they don't want to accept money unless absolutely needed. But in case they ever have a donation stream again, then you could technically give them money, but really they only want to make this on their own means. Which is both admirable but still a bit saddening cause the community is fully willing to throw money at this. Probably even more than a new bethesda game, though that's mainly me being cynical of some recent bethesda games.
@Ucallit 71 Yeah Bethesda has gotten rather lazy over the years. They had to rush out Morrowind to avoid going bankrupt, Morrowind was a big success, putting them in a good spot. But they've adopted the mentality that once a game is "good enough" they can ship it, for Oblivion this wasn't as obvious because the big upgrades in mechanics and such over Morrowind, sure plenty of things were also dropped but it wasn't a glaring problem.
But I feel like the jump from Oblivion to Skyrim was a bit different, it just felt more lazy, especially on the story elements. Some things were changed but there's plenty of things that were taken away with only a few things added on. Follow this line of thought for the Fallout series as well, leading to the end point that is Fallout 76 and it's disaster.
I'd like to see them put more effort into the details for the next game, sadly I can only hope they change their course, otherwise they may very well just nail their own proverbial coffin shut.
@@darkrite9000 I seriously wouldn't mind supporting them.
Wouldn't they be sued for trying to make money from someone else's IP?
I doubt the team wants to get in any murky legal situations where they’re profiting off of someone else’s game. Bethesda (and now MS I suppose) would be less likely to send a cease and desist if it’s just a free mod that, if anything, requires you to own or buy Skyrim to play.
This literally brought me to tears. Just seeing the care and devotion put in to revamping an old beloved game was incredibly moving. If only developer companies had the same care and devotion.
Facts.
they have
True words!
If anyone doing major work on this ever tries to get a job in the industry, this must be a huge plus on the resume.
- Worked on Skyblivion for 14 years
Yeeeeeah no.
If you're trying to get a job in the industry you need either studies or work experience, nobody cares about what you do in your free time
-someone with a portofolio of completed games whose CV is ignored because I don't have a diploma
@@Riael you need to go over the head of HR. HR doesn't understand anything about the industry so they just put "bachelor's degree" and call it good. If you go directly to management with your portfolio I guarantee you get a job.
@@Riael You're applying to the wrong studios clearly. Plenty of dedicated modders have jobs in the industry as a direct result of their modding portfolio...
@@Riael Lol if working on a project like this doesn't count for your resume, the job is not worth it.
This is work.

We'll be playing the new elder scrolls first that's for sure. The question is, will it be as good as this? Surely not in the first few months of release at the very least.
You guys have no idea how proud everyone is of this project, we are so looking forward to its release
Is it weird that I had tears in my eyes watching this?

I laughed so hard when i saw it, paused the video and went looking for a comment just like this
Between Skyblivion, Skywind, and the Beyond Skyrim Projects, one does not even need to worry about buying a next gen console or upgrading their PC when these mod projects are a lot more exciting than most upcoming next gen games.
Exactly my thoughts...
Ty Bey | Fallout Cascadia is the one you’re missing.
Its crazy that this is true
Sadly, my potato will most definitely not be able to run this, since I barely can run special edition (and there is no way this is coming to Oldrim).
I've been waiting for these mods for years, but what's worrying me is having to use the original Skyrim with all of its issues.
All I can say is hats off to you. Genuinely floored with this one.
Remember, this is a work from heart. This is so wholesome. And for free? Man, just take my money.
This is looking incredible. I really love the redesign & diversify approach, which makes this all the more exciting than just graphics/engine upgrade. Loving those new guard armour concepts, gives each of them such a unique vibe :D
Hello guys FudgeMuppet here
Cheers Scott! Or Micheal, maybe Drew?
Ah look who's here.
You rock FudgeMuppet! I'm a big fa of you!
@@Rebelzize i still wonder guys
Were you financing all these years to earn your budget or you're doing it all for free (which most likely not) but still curiosity
Modding projects like this are some of the most inspiring things I've ever seen.
I used to agree, but I've become cynical because the enormous modding projects I look forward to all seem to linger in development for years and years without publishing until I forget about them. Honestly, I can't think of one huge mod that has actually released.
@@Aaron_Patridge Bruma was released for Beyond skyrim and there are more parts soon to be released. Honestly the Skywind and Skyblivion projects have gotten much further than i thought they would by this time, if i had experience in this stuff i'd have joined myself, alas i am but a scrub with minimal texturemodding skills
I can't agree more
@@Aaron_Patridge It's a shame these people can't work on it full time like the employees of Bethesda can, but the projects aren't dead by a long shot. If anything, they seem more motivated than ever to complete this.
I believe skyblivion will be released, the devs said again and again how much they want to finish it. But even if it weren't going to be released, as a huge oblivion fan (my favorite and most nostalgic game), seeing these places getting an uplift is enough. Seeing the concepts and the thought put into all of this brings me down memory lane of playing Oblivion for the first, second, third time.
Ah, yes, I'm ready to keep coming back to this game for more, for the rest of my life, starting as soon as it's released. No rush though, I can already tell the wait is going to be MORE than worth it!
Fans: Please remake or remaster Oblivion
Bethesda: No
Modders: Fine, we'll do it ourselves.
@Rob Cook They're offering the mod free of charge and to play it, you need to own oblivion and skyrim
@@jonathanbyrd12 Yeah but what application would skyblivion run in without skyrim, right?
@@jonathanbyrd12 Well they did say it was going to play like a dlc for skyrim, since they already did a live stream for skyblivion and it was on skyrim special edition (its still a demo though so I really don't know for sure but I think its going to be in vanilla skyrim with all dlc's or skyrim special edition)
@@garenmix365 i missed the part where you needed to own oblivion I may need to get it if so, because i have not owned that since the ps3.
When this comes out, my butt will fuse with my chair for decades...........
play it with skyrimVR?
Just imagine what the modding community will add to this masterpiece. I can see it right now: Skyblivrim!
I love all of this so damn much
Cheers Capn
It’s funny seeing my RUclips circles overlap, howdy Shack
Would love a book made showcasing game development, art ect when completed
this is a good idea for them to actually make some money back
If there’s anything to get me playing Skyrim again this is certainly it.
"It suffered constant crashes, and was rife with bugs."
Sounds like it's been a completed project for a while now by Bethesda standards
Hearty belly-laughed at this. 👏👏👏🥇🏆
Dedication of modding community is totally out of the world, words can't express how happy i am to see this come to life...
It really means these games will never die, potentially, these games will live on forever.
I am infinitely more excited about this than anything Bethesda could produce at this point. You all have done an amazing job.
i never though i could actually be excited to play a game again
Now that he has a Microsoft budget Todd Howard needs to hire these modders full time. This is amazing work.
@Yol Riin Lask yes.
His bosses (Zenimax) now just have Bosses of their own to deal with
Nehhh he too much of a greedy idiot barstard to do that.
We just have to hope that M$ doesn't remove everything that made these games great
I’m both excited and terrified of Microsoft with Control... On one hand yes Bethesda will have a bigger budget however sometimes companies that acquire others tend to micromanage which ultimately lower the quality. What we might see is a less buggy game but we might see a Fable 3 where a game will have a strong start but a weak finish
@Agent 47 and that will stay unless people like them are hired lol
The modding community is making games for Bethesda now
Yes luckily
PeriQue1337 For real get these dudes on the pay roll👀
Bethesda is not worth this effort
Better than having Bethesda do it
Haha! All except ES6!
I just appreciate all of you who recreate the Skyblivion. 8 Divines bless you.
The pure talent and dedication to make this project possible is insane, I have so much respect for the whole team, as a player of the elder scrolls I can't wait to see how this project turns out, it already looks incredible!
Crazy how they're doing all this for free. That's some real passion there.
I mean it’s not there game. It was remastered. But the Bethesda team should definitely hire them.
vendetta ENT. *microsoft Bethesda would eat them up and spit them out as soon as they’re burnt out. Let them stay indie dev’s and get their own bearings and maybe they can create a team
They don't have much of a choice but to make it free but yeah, its 100% passion and I can't wait to play it one day
My GOD man! This is absolutely mindblowing! Seing such a technical and creative effort being done out of love for the results is truly inspiring. Can't wait to see the results, I will be playing it for sure!
Absolutely amazing, watching this video reminded me of my time in oblivion and brought tears to my eyes. i look forward to this project you guys are working on more than anything. and thank you all for your work and efforts and can't wait.
That Imperial Guard sure knows how to narrate.
That's your Emperor Uriel Septim VII, watch your tongue commoner!
At least we didn't hear him scream, STOP!!! YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW!!GRR
Because it’s Lord Stark
Is it possible they can get Wes Johnson to record for the remake? It won't feel like Oblivion without him.
So proud of our TES community, possibly the kindest and certainly the most talented people amongst the gaming community as a whole.
Well done to everyone involved
True
Did not know the dangleberries were ESO fans. Awesome!
I hope they add romanceable companions in Skyblivion.
@柏靈頓 : At most it would only require converting the original mods from Skyrim like we need to do from LE to SE or vice versa. Or how they started this project by converting Oblivion into the Skyrim engine (thankfully nowhere near as daunting a task, lols).
People will certainly be doing a whole lot of that if need be. ^-^
A friend told me to check this out and i'm so glad they did. i am extremely stoked and looking forward to the day this comes to fruition. Anyone who has anything to do with this...cannot say enough good things. I'm sure it's still aways off but wow am i excited to see it. Thank you all that have your hand in this project.
The amount of dedication that goes into this project is truly amazing. Looking forward to whenever this project is matured enough to be released. Take your time!
“It suffered from constant crashes, and it was ripe with bugs-“
So it was a normal Bethesda game, got it.
Pretty much haha
In the german skyrim version there is still a bug with the foresworn quest in markath. If u complete it and go into the temple again, they imprison you again. I avoided Markath as much as I could in every playtrough ever since...
Ima be honest this project makes Bethesda look like a fucking joke lol 😂
I mean look at this it’s incredible
Bugs, maybe. But crashes? In Skyrim SE I experience crashes once a week or two - with almost 200 mods :)
Skyrim Explorer I really just mean the effort of this team makes Bethesda look bad, clearly this team would make way more passionate devs then the ones at Bethesda

The production quality was absolutely staggering, definitely has AAA value. It looks fantastic!
How about AAAA value?
I mean they have concept art. What other mod has concept art.
@@nightstar6179 The various Beyond Skyrim mods usually do. A couple of the other big ones as well, like Lordbound. But yeah, not too many do.

Congratulations on what's already be done !
What you have accomplished is just amazing, well done and thank you for everyone who spent hours to remake such classic!
When I first bought Oblivion 14 years ago, I didn't know what it would do to me and my life. Not only did it introduce me to the world of Fantasy-RPGs and therefore is responsible for many beautiful memories and the positive marks this genre left on my soul, but is also one of the main carriers of childhood-nostalgia in my life. When Skyblivion will be released, I'm not only going to play a game, I'm going to relive a life-period in my mind and enjoy this masterpiece at the same time.
I honestly raise my hat to you guys. This is beautiful.
I hope the release will bring back a lot of those same feeling you(we) had when we first played this amazing game.
When my old man married his new wife and I suddenly had two new step-brothers we didn't have a lot in common. But I suggested he get Oblivion on a whim because it looked cool. Well we spent hundreds of hours together playing Oblivion. That game is what brought us together and made us into the best of friends. To this day we talk about all the good times we had playing Oblivion. It quite literally changed my life for the better.

This guy has the most Imperial sounding voice. He better voice a few of them, can easily imagine it coming from a soldier.
Seriously though, his voice is pitch fucking perfect.

I'd say Skywind is more promising, seeing how Morrowind is the better game compared to Oblivion.
Also, new TES will be released on a brand new engine, which we'll have a teaser of in Starfield, apparently.

I’m just amazed that people are doing this for absolutely free. Their decation to this project really is inspirational.
Think about it this way, once it's done they can put working on this on there resume, thats worth a lot more then the small ammount of money they would get if people donated and had to spread it amongst the team.
This project makes Bethesda look like a ducking joke, it’s inspiring

This will go down as the single greatest fan-gaming project in history.
Skywind is pretty much the same scale. They even had to voiceline everything. Both great projects. I just wish they worked all on the same project and had released one of them by now.
Don't forget Black Mesa, the remake of Half-Life 1 on HL2's engine
did you try Enderal (and the dlc Forgotten Stories)? This is also a fanmade "mod" even though it is a completely new game, also with many new textures, a completely new story and the voice acting is top notch - in the video for the mod they say you can play around 30-100 hours (I had 80 hours when i finished nearly 100% on my first run) - it is 4 free on steam if u have skyrim over steam, else u gotta install it over nexusmods - one of the best gaming experiences i had so far, and the story is so much better than skyrim's could be
If it's ever finished, you mean. I love all these massive modding projects, but pretty much none of them ever get completed. (Or it takes like a decade.)
Enderal is the only giant mod that's actually been finished, I believe. For Skyrim at least.

Oblivion has always been my absolute favorite of all the Elder Scrolls installments and I can easily say it looks like all your hard work and diligence is truly making it even better. Great video! Inspiring and exciting. I can't wait to play this masterpiece from the mod community. Thank you! 🍻 from 🇺🇲!
If I ever get married, I wish to have half the dedication these wonderful people do, keep up the good work everyone!
I'm legit more excited for Skyblivion than I am for The Elder Scrolls VI 🙌
Let’s hope not !
The voiceover guy... I could listen to him speak about anything and be absolutely enthralled.
Thank you for your hard work on this, it's perfect!
This is so sick. Props. Great work thus far. Looking forward to see what you've done.
I'm ready to play, WE are ready to play. This project is more anticipated than the next Bethesda game or the one after that... or the one after that. This project is born of love for the game not the buck and that alone makes it better in every way ❤️
A new Skyblivion video? Clicked on it faster than ever before!
Me too! : D
This looks astonishingly good. I wish I had the skills to contribute to the project but I'll have to settle for cheering you guys on from the background! I wish you every success.
I am so incredibly grateful for all the hard work you guys have been putting into this remake, and even more proud of what you guys have come together to accomplish. Oblivion was one of the first open-world fantasy RPG games I'd ever played, and it took me on a journey I'll never forget. I have been so disappointed with how the Elder Scrolls franchise has been handled by Bethesda since then, and so to see the obvious love and care that is going into a remake that's going to be available for free-- ... I honestly have no words... just, THANK YOU.
Bethesda: *Rerererelease Skyrim*
Modders: "What about oblivion ?"
Bethesda: ...
Modders: "Fine, i'll do it myself."
I heard the latest Skyrim release doesn't actually fix many of the important bugs yet makes it harder to mod them out.
@Kia El Play both.
They dont want to ruin their own masterpiece, because lets be real, Oblivion was the last of an age of excellence in game creation, that i truly hope comes back. These modding devs give me hope yet. A fantasy world that actually feels alive again :D
Todd Howard: 16x times the detail!
Community: fine, we'll did it ourself
Todd Howard: You weren't supposed to do that.
@@exhaustedmoron5570 Shut up, Todd is not triggered, in fact, he is happy that people now have to buy both SSE and Oblivion, because Oldrim can't work with this.
Now everyone can buy skyrim every month.
@@subhankarbaral9236 if Todd would have released a finished Skyrim at launch modders wouldn't have had to fix his game and add basic (and some not so basic) features. Really we could thank him for selling us an alpha release (if it was my team that wouldn't have even made it to beta) since that led us to where we are now with people being able to make more content.
@@msihcs8171 Sorry, I tend to disagree. Ok, Skyrim has become bugs but a game like Skyrim tend to have it because of thousands of possibilities. Still, they went on to release patches on their own. Also, they tend to improved a lot in bugs department in SSE. Witcher 3 also faced a lot of bugs during launch but CDPR fixed them as quickly as they can. For FO76 also, a lot of bugs are fixed. Bethesda is not perfect but still they are far better than EA, who released a shitty game like Anthem and they literally abandoned it.
This is absolutely stunning! Still to this day, the best game I've ever played.
I will GLADLY enjoy it once more the second you bless the world with this gem! I cannot wait!
Thank you to all involved for doing this for us Elder Scrolls GEEKS!!
.................Hey look!! A Nirnroot!!!
to say your mods are miraculously amazing would be an understatement, looking more forward to this than anything else coming out!
This just makes me more exited for the day we can become Sean bean's sidekick again.
After recently replaying Oblivion, I had forgotten how much I LOVE his character.
Martin is TOO well written, like jesus this is Elder Scrolls, not The Witcher, lol.
But previously though, Martin certainly is an amazing character, I actually felt something when he turned into a Dragon God. Which is very unsporting, but awesome nonetheless.
ultimatepunster Morrowinds story is better than any Witcher ever could be
I haven't been playing games for years now, but when I was a teen, I spent hundreds of hours in Oblivion. Seeing this really makes me nostalgic and your dedication and passion hits me right in the feels. Thank you for doing this.
This looks like a official remaster, you are as professional as any studio, maybe even more so! Y'all should get hired by Bethesda (or Microsoft) and given a blanc slate!

I keep coming back to this vid. I love it. And your main theme song for the mod, so beautiful
So hard to type with my jaw dangling on the floor... Amazing work! One of my all-time, favourite games.
I'm SO looking forward to release day. You have my wholehearted wishes for every success.
