Looks good, but no excuse for using piano black. I realize car design and development takes years, but this is something people have complained about for a long time. Audi made a conscious decision to ignore these complaints.

I suspect that most people have no problem with piano black and we just hear RUclips reviewers mention it because they need to complain about something. I have no problem with it in my Audis. I keep a microfiber cloth in my car and if I get smudges on the piano black surfaces or touchscreens I just give them a wipe. I have no issues with scratches on these surfaces because I don’t throw sharp, abrasive objects around inside my car. I honestly don’t know why people have a problem with piano black. Used tastefully in moderation I think it looks quite nice.

A return to form for Audi (well, mostly!). The thing with this though is that it’s moderately pricier than a new M340i and so it begs the question: what do you get over that car for your money? Superior lighting technology and a cool OLED display are definitely perks. But engine, dynamics, transmission and THE BRAKES (very noticeable downgrade for this gen of Audi A4/5) are superior in the M340i.
To put the price into perspective, you can get a sub-10k miles 23 plate BMW approved used M3 Competition xDrive with ultimate pack (lasers, carbon bucket seats and largely all the mod cons) as well as the remainder of the manufacturer’s unlimited mileage warranty for only £2k more (i.e £70k) than this new Audi S5 (£68k).
This isn’t a diss on Audi btw. I considered the prev S4/5 (which this replaces) but the diesel of that gen put me off. Also considered a C43 AMG but test driving the M340i cemented it over its competitors.

If you're not overly concerned about driving dynamics I can see your choice and Audi does have lovely interiors. Now the last Audi I had was B7 RS4 which was brilliant outside of it wanting to understeer a bit. The engine was fantastic too but I made the switch to a E92 M3 and haven't looked back since. After purchasing my G82 M4C I feel as though it's the best M car I have ever owned. The RS6 Avante would do nicely when I have kids someday if it's still around in some sort of variant.

The M340i handles better, has superior performance, better brakes, and costs 16% less. The only thing the Audi offers is a fresher look for today’s times, and for those who enjoy gadgets, it might be a better choice. However, everything else speaks in favor of the M340i.
Also, keep in mind that the ZF transmission and the B58 engine are kings of reliability-a proven combination you can count on.

"Audi is BACK!" Yes - I agree. Although that interior leaves me wanting more. When Mercedes launched their new/current interior direction, it shook the industry. Like it or not (a bit glitzy for some), it raised the bar and left an impression. Audi's historically had class-leading interiors. This, even brand new, feels like a notch below MB/BMW for its interior. A miss. Still, the new CEO's direction is evident and feels like a very positive, and much needed, step forward for the brand. Nice job, Audi.

Thank goodness for the real quad pipes, was so sick of fake exhausts. Next to go will hopefully be the busy "haptic" buttons on steering wheel!! I hear quite expensive as well.

I 💯% agree with you having all models with the same dashboard is not great that layout should be unique to the A5 lineup

I completely agree with the airbag remark. I think Audi completely missed the mark when it comes to the airbag.

They're handsome cars, if a little anonymous and blank. Can't wait to see the RS versions.

The a5 avant used to be about a foot shorter than a A6 avant. now they are just 5 inches shorter... what's the point of having both?

What is the material on top of the doors and dash? Leatherette or plastic?

      Looks like plastic with stitching

Interested in that as well. Looks like it’s plastic.
The M5 can’t even get leather dash, for example.
      Very annoying...

14:40 I'd be extremely interested to see how the OLED screen(s) age/s.
Even the highest-end OLED screens will develop image retention from static elements.
An infotainment system is.... nearly all static elements.
I'm not a luddite (having had three "virtual cockpits" (*eyeroll*)), but it still seems like a risky choice.
Also, having owned LED and OLED TVs, I can definitely confirm that reading text in dark mode with the slight glow from LCD is much more pleasant to use at night than OLED as the absolute-black to "as white as it gets" contrast ratio is so much higher (it's literally infinite, so... perceived ratio is so much higher.)
That's great for watching movies. It's not so good for text.
    I guess we'll find out.

Great review though the question is (taking into consideration the global economic situation) are these 3 year 'lease' cars with service costs rising like mad afterwards, or are they making them last longer? This applies to all brands.
