Scott. You just made my New Year....extremely grateful that you on this earth. Those 12 you just got were from my property, and am sooooooo glad you made it there! They are destroying everything around there. You always make such good videos for everyone, and love watching them. Keep up the awesome work, and don't be afraid to go around the back pond from the furthest lodge. Might be many more back there on my side of pond. Great job Scott!!!
Back in the day , like 35ish years ago, I did some beaver trapping. Used foot hold traps with drowning rods. Caught a few small beavers and knew there was some massive big beavers in that area. Couldn’t catch the big ones in steal traps. They were educated. Found traps sprung with sticks in them and mud and leaves mixed with twigs burying them. Really don’t think anyone ever caught those huge beavers.
I’m so jealous of the amount of beaver you catch. I want a big blanket made so bad but I only catch 5 or 6 a year lol. You make setting those 330s so easy I swear I feel like I walk around 45 minutes trying to find the right stick.
@@user-sl1lb3wc4r I’m in Alabama I only have time to set my 4 conibears on a Friday night and pull them Sunday morning when I can make it to my farm thats 2 hours away.
Great videos as always!! Incredible CV content! Your friend doing the filming reminded me of the 2 old guys from the muppets innthe Balcony throwing no in there 2¢s worth!! Youbsre an easy goin hard working, good man ,great outdoorsman!!
Another great video, thank you for putting these out there. I've been thinking about starting to video some of my trapping, we'll see. One thing I really like about your videos is the lack of B roll fluff. It's a short introduction to the area, finding lodge run and bank den locations, making sets and checks. Thanks again for the effort you put into these.
Great job keep it up there are many more games than we are going to have that require more expensive equipment than before unless we go back to old school. Sincerely! RS.V.
It’s definitely nice getting a bunch of beavers in one location!!! When I’m trapping I always try to make like a big circle when driving!!! By doing this it helps with Not wasting a bunch of fuel!! So I try not to do any back tracking!!! I think that’s the way to say it!!! And for others that are wanting to get into trapping you should try think of what and where you want to set traps and basically just drive in a circle and don’t back track to the area that you have already been!!! This is something that I have always done to help with not spending a bunch on fuel and taking more money from the money that you should be making!!! It may sound funny but it will definitely show at the end of the season after adding up everything that you have spent on trapping and then subtract what you have gotten out of all the hides!! That was definitely an awesome setup to find all in the same area!!! Awesome video buddy!!!
Hey Scott! Love the videos looks like you’re killing it this year! Just wanted to say thank you for the time you put into your videos and all the tips and trick you rattle off along the way. I caught my first 3 beavers and 1st muskrat this past weekend setting 6 330s and 3 220 foot holds using solely the knowledge I’ve gained watching your videos, everything from how to locate runs, how to set certain runs, and the best ways to set your traps for success. One question I do have is where do you get your shoulder length gauntlet gloves? It’s starting to get a little chilly in the water up here in Michigan and setting traps bare handed in the water is starting to get to be a little bit of a problem for my hands lol. Anyway just thought I’d let you know what you’re doing has made an impact in my life personally and stop in to tell ya thanks!
I have a question for ya, I'm pretty inexperienced to trapping beaver in fact I trapped only my 3rd today and my 2nd otter as well. My question is I'm on about a 40 acre lake that they have been knocking down dozens of oaks. I've put in drowning sets using my duke double springs coyote traps but they are pulling out of the traps. It's happened 3 days in a row now and they are pulling the trap all the way to the anchor. Do you think it's because they are only double springs or just bad hook-ups? Just fyi the ones I got today was 330s setup on the lodge. Your videos are awesome, Keep them coming
My guess is your traps are possibly to small to hold the beaver. When they hit the end of the drowner if the trap isn't strong enough they will pull out. Especially if caught by a back foot. If you get one by the front foot you stand a better chance of getting them. I'd say a minimum size of a #3 but recommend a larger trap like a number 4 or larger. Hope you get them buggers!!
Thanks for getting back to me. You look very comfortable handling the 330's, just looking out for you my friend. All it takes is not securing the dog solid to the trap jaw, add ice to the equation and she could misfire. I got back into trapping about 5 years ago and your videos have helped me catch several beavers. I reside in Wilsonville Ontario, but grew up in North Bay , Ontario - home of Fur Harvesters auction. Where do you ship your beaver pelts? Prices have been up! Rob
I was looking at our beaver regulations. We are allowed 20 a year. That’s all. I might go for my trappers license when I retire next year. I’ll find a mentor.
Faster yes but you can't place the trap best as possible without getting in the water and feeling around. Poking a stick around works as I've done it before but nothing compares to actually getting in and feeling where they are traveling. Othe problem with an H stand is its much more work chopping a hole big enough to get the trap and beaver out. Unless you're in open water they are a pain to use as well.
Awesome catch on some big beavers!! I have something to share and could use your opinion and knowledge if you wouldn't mind. I have this lake my friend lives on and the beavers are tearing his place up. He has asked me to help him rid him of the beavers. There are 3 lodges on this lake 1 I think is abandon but 2 are for sure active with a huge feed pile. The odd thing is the 2 are right next too eachother like 10 yrds aparts with 1 just built within the last month. I had been out and looked things over and there was only 1 and today I walked out to check on bank dens 12/16/23 and then I see the 2nd lodge. Open water surrounding the lodges the feed pile is about 20 yrds from both lodges. I'm checking the ice to see how close I can get and the depth of the water and surprise the spud bar slides right thru my hand when I went thru the ice(I know dumb ass😅) I was about 5' from the shoreline and didn't find the bottom so that's telling me it drops off sharply. Didn't find but maybe 1 or 2 bank dens. It appears like they are just coming up on shore from the lodges. Is a possibly? My other question is with the water being that deep and the shoreline being frozen what do you suggest for sets? I should also tell you I live in northern MN also. Also apologize for long post. I believe I could be in for a pile of beavers if I can get at them 😂 Tkx for listening
I would make sure and wear chest waders and try to get out onto the lodges somehow. If you can't then just trap the bank dens you can find and wait for colder weather to access the lodges. Those deep ones can be a pain to trap!!
Tkx bud I'll keep you updated and be sure to post pics. This is going to be fun and work but interesting. They are amazing creatures but at the same time so destructive.

Very strong setting those 330 by hand
It can take some time finding good sticks. Luckily there was a 3rd old lodge that had a bunch on them
What part of the country do you trap ? An how hard do you work for those 5 or 6

Thanks!!!!
@@330Maniac figured I would buy you a coffee. Learned lot from you.
I'm so jealous of how shallow your ponds are in Alaska right next to the house it's 10 plus ft deep everywhere
I skip the ponds that are that deep and use footholds in the spring on them lol
Скотт! Отличное видео! Продолжайте снимать, у вас есть чему поучиться! Благодарю!!!
Great video Scott. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
Classic.
Whst a great few days of trapping on thst pond. I would go back in the spring and you wil probably take another 6 beaver.

F&T trapping supplies
Do you keep your stakes when you pull traps to use elsewhere or just get new ones off the lodges?
Yes I do sometimes
No he just finds new ones at each site trapped. Opps sorry buddy I'm answering questions for you. My bad
@bradleymarquardt4464 No I actually bring a bunch with if they are nice straight ones.
That's a really good idea.
Nothing like nice straight sticks that the beavers found for you, and cleaned off nice.
You should do a video of how fleshing a hide is done. Not sure if you do that or not. Love your videos. You do a great job.
I believe he do a video on skinny, and fleshing.
I think he’s done them.
I've done skinning videos. I do have a video on stretching then too
So how much are you getting for pelts this year
Wow great job. Do you eat any of them? I heard they are great tasting.
I’m old and I’ll say this, your very strong if u set 330 duke by hand
What an excellent catch ! Merry Chritmas.🦫🌲
👍
Would like to see you using the besisle 330s you sold me on from watching your older videos. Now I gotta go buy new gear I guess.
I would rather have belisle 330s
Do you eat the maet of your catches? If you do you must have a freexzer full. Great watch.
That’s a fun time when you can catch that many in one place
Yo, what’s the purpose of a swivel stick ?😊

Fyi my lodge set was successful again this morning.
Think there’s a few left.
Wow!! You need to do a catch and cook on one of those sometime. Great video!
You handled the trap by the jaws with safeties off at 11
:00 Yikes. Be careful 330.
Oh yes I do that all the time lol. You get used to do it.

Nothin colder than water under the ice. Painful!
