    Halfway through the ballistic gel dummy tests, I was like, "Dude, he's had enough. I think he yields." You know a weapon is brutal when you begin to feel bad for an inanimate dummy.. I know adrenaline can make one fight despite an injury, but this thing... WOW! One well placed blow from that, and it's game over.
    Well done.

      Even against the helmet, while it didnt punch through to the skull, if you look at the shock to the dummies neck.... While the skull would be intact, the neck would likely have broken from the force to the head... Yikes

    • @theacegamingdemon6983
      @theacegamingdemon6983 3 года назад +5

      Lets see, in terms of damage, in just the first three hits the dummy takes, the first would have had the opponents guts slashed and gouged open, leading to massive blood loss, infection, and y'know, having a big fucking hole where your guts are spilling out on the floor. The second would have broken ribs, nearly eviscerated one lung, and likely leaving the opponent drowning in their own blood. The third, immediately breaks the clavicle and probably the two ribs below it, probably shatters the shoulder blade and again pierces and/or eviscerates part of the lung, except this time the opponent DEFINITELY drowns in their own blood. Yea, whoever gets hit with this might get a few death throes, maybe a last defiant hit, hell maybe even just a slow bleeding out in massive agony, but with how this thing causes massive gouged/slashing wounds exacerbated by the piercing point, I'm not entirely anyone would survive that shit unless you were immediately taken to a hospital. And even then. Damn this thing is brutal.

      Firstly, greetings from a fellow Nigel ... sadly, there are increasingly few of us around, as our name has fallen out of favour somewhat ...
      Also you're right ... that first blow, directly to the liver, actually made me physically wince ...
      Reason being in, what seems another lifetime ago, I did two years of Anatomy and Physiology, at degree level ... just thinking about how much trauma caused by that single blow alone boggled the mind ...
      If, and that's a massive if, the casualty was gotten to a major trauma centre in record speed, the sheer volume of blood loss would be such they would be in serious danger of hypovolemic shock, if and yet another big if, they could even control the bleeding, whilst hanging as many units O neg, then typed and cross matched, plus FFP.
      And even if they were sent direct to the OT/OR for immediate emergency surgery, no guarantees they would even make it off of the table ...

They also have small hand knife that is worn like a necklase, as extra weapon. Sad that we had more of those from our ancestors but either got lost or stolen.

    • @pianospawn1
      @pianospawn1 4 года назад

      I don’t think pain would be a factor. It’s so fast and deep it would just kill any area you hit. Cause massive nerve damage to other body parts and essentially disable you instantly. Then either your guts would fall out/lungs collapse/you die instantly depending on what organ it hit. Even a limb shot would have you bleed out in minutes.

    Interesting fact about the back blade: whereas the front blade was ultimately used for cutting an opponent's head, the back blade was used to pick up the head and put it in a backpack.
    Also, Igorots were one of the indigenous peoples using that weapon. It was fairly common in the northern mountain regions of the Philippines where they believed it was important to keep your opponent's head in order for them to not find their way in the afterlife. The fear was that if your opponent's spirit finds you, then they can take their revenge. Also, if one really hated their enemy, they would have also taken the guy's kidneys, so they wouldn't feel comfort in the afterlife. They believed that the kidneys provided relief and comfort (like how you feel after peeing).
    Also, to put it in context, they believed that the living and the dead coexist and that you just don't see the dead.

      Roberto Brillante igorots are like those Nepalese warriors that used the kukri, Gurkhas I do believe, there was one story of a Gurkha who was trapped behind lines in ww2, he came across three sleeping Nazi soldiers so as a sick joke he silently killed the two on the ends and decapitated them to switch their heads, so that in the morning the one in the middle would wake to see the result, did it as a demoralizing tactic, pretty sure it worked lol

      nice to know even here in Pinas, a lot of cultures have a somewhat similar belief on decapitation and how it affects one's afterlife. Like medieval christians used to cut off heads of suicides so that they cant enter heaven (even purgatory) and go straight to hell.

    imagine this thing in D&D 5E:
    Igorot Axe
    Type: Martial Melee Weapon
    Reach:5 ft.
    Damage: 2d4 piercing damage
    Weight: 4-7 lb.
    Cost: 20 GP
    Properties: Versatile (2d6), Special.
    Proficiency with an Igorot axe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
    Versatile: this weapon does 2d4 piercing damage when held with one hand, but does 2d6 piercing damage when held with two hands.
    Special: as a bonus action, you can attack a different creature dealing 1d4 piercing damage if held with one hand, or 1d6 piercing damage if held with two hands. if a class feature or feat feature allows you to attack as a bonus action against the same or different creature, use 2d4/6.

    • @Ninjamanhammer
      @Ninjamanhammer 6 лет назад +39

      Leather is a lot less common as armor than commonly thought, and chain mail is not a real name, it is called mail, or chain armor. Also plated armor is called plate armor.
      If he tested it against armor he should definitely also test it against gamberson.

      Leather had been used in different forms, you are absolutely correct, though that might be worth pointing out then, as a lot of "leather armor" being tested is costume stuff.
      No need to apologize, we've all miscalled things, but thankfully after enough repetition the real terms tend to stick.
      I did not mean to put you down or anything, I thought your suggestion was good, I just wanted to correct some of the slight mistakes you made.

      There is one significant drawback of it though... and you can see it very clearly in this video.
      It gets stuck... it gets stuck HARD.
      In a real battle situation, this is highly dangerous... sure, you might kill that one guy good... and maybe a second one... but you will probably get stabbed or hit by the third guy.
      Speers, Axes and swords have this issue to a smaller degree too.
      Maces and hammers have this issue the least of all battlefield weapons, which is one of the reasons, they were popular.

    When I first saw one of these my thought was "why didn't other axes evolve to be more like this one?" It seems like it's designed for armor penetration, combining the best parts of pickaxe and battle axe. Force concentration building into a longer, deep penetrating cut. But it was made by people that didn't really use armor. It's super mean looking and has incredible damage potential, and I just fell in love with the design. There are some really cool looking ones.

The Philippines is a tropical country, hence full plate and lamelar armour did not develop as it would be too hot and neither did wearing metal as an armour, exlcuding the Moros who use chainmail obtained from other Muslims in South East Asia.
