@@aroenweind7244 nah it's just what kiwami does, he leaves for months, then one day he comes back and it turns out he's been manually sorting sand all this time
@jacobe2995 yes indeed, you are correct. But I'd assume that it would be more likely I'd know if I studied geology in the States and not here, where I live.
I'm semi-familar with the geology in the part of the States he's in, I'd agree with you on it being quartzite. That sugary texture always gives it away!
I am a local geologist and rockhounding expert here in Utah, anyway I could help you source some rocks for your videos if you want. Show you where to find the most interesting material to make the knifes out of.
The sharp knife is quartzite, which was originally sandstone but has been heated and squeezed to the point where it recrystallized. The layers are remnants of the original sandstone. Quartz is very hard and pretty strong so it makes a pretty good knife blade, good work!

If you want a wider selection of rocks to work with, then I suggest going to the Tucson gem and mineral show. It's the largest gem show on the planet, and people bring rocks from all over the world to sell. No joke. It takes place the first 2 weeks of February every year. I went once. They had booths all over the city, and I saw rocks as big as cars for sale
That pink rock looks like a composite of quartz and feldspar, we have a lot of similar ones in my region. Thank you for this entertaining and educational video.
This was a very interesting concept. The granite was very beautiful. I found a rock almost like the pink one in the graveyard in my yard. I'm trying to find out exactly what kind it is. If I find out, you'll be the first peep to know.
That pink Rock looks straight up like a piece of pork. I was thinking this exact thing and then all of a sudden, then he said, "that looks like a nice pork chop". had me cracking up.
I think your main knifes problem was the bigger grain size on the crystals, the other one had a tiny grain size so imperfections from bits chipping away are less noticeable or problematic
so, looking at the pink rock it looks like Keokuk, but it is hard to diagnose without handling it. but it is a kind of knapable stone that is on par with flint or obsidian
How would a glass knife do? I would love to see a attapt at that with different harnesses and just for the lols just see if you can turn your glasses into a knife like the optics turned lethal

The unidentified rock is likely some sort of Rose Quartz Agate or just straight up Rose Quartz, this wouldn't be too unusually since rose quartz is somewhat common in new hampshire and the northeast!
the pink color comes from hematite that was present in the (once sandstone) before it was metamorphosized into a pink quartzite rock. the pink coloration is noticeably banded throughout the rock, which likely reflects how the sandstone looked before it was metamorphosized. the grain structure is also a dead giveaway. rose quartz has a cloudy pink color, sometimes clearer in other areas where you can almost see into the stone. the rock he showed didn't display those properties. then again, without being able to see it in person, you can only say so much.
the mystery rock is quartz with some sort of red impurity the Aztecs used quartz for arrowheads, spearheads, sacrificial knives medicinal knives axe heads and lots more.

The strange stone looks like a cryptocrystalline quartz type, but there's SO many stones of that type simply looking it through the screen would tell us nothing about it.
might be worth trying to find some "Banded Gneiss" (yes, it's really pronounced like the word "nice", so you can make all the dumb puns you want with that) that has some nice straight lines in it. it's a different type of granite, but should work better than the mottled variety you used here. not sure what that pink rock was, though others seem to think it's pink quartz. if you wanna try doing something REALLY fancy, you can actually grow your very own rubies an arc welder with carbon rods, and a chunk of graphite. rubies are a material called Corundum (same as sapphires), that's a 9 on a mohs hardness scale, only 1 below diamond. it should be able to get sharpened into a VERY sharp edge, and also be fairly durable. I would strongly recommend checking out NightHawkinLight's older video on making rubies, but instead of making a small bowl that produces a button, make longer square mold for a bar, or even just buying a graphite mold meant for making gold bars. it's a pretty simple process.
I need one of those water jets to create a small[ish] monolith: a granite solar calendar/sundial. Preferably a sun dot polar sundial, designed by one J. H. Pretorius, but even more accurate, including an analema to account for the equation of time, and possibly adjustable to account for daylight savings time and your longitudinal location within your time zone. How much do these cost? (I'm hoping to buy a used one for $100 bucks or so. Lol!)
