Fun fact: cyanoacrilate (the main component of super glues) was invented as a material for supersonic jet fighter canopy glass. The inventor couldn't get it right to function as a glass, but he noted the extremely good adhesive properties it had before curing.
I feel like the end result is probably 80-90% dirt. It actually cut a lot better than pure resin would have too, so I think the dirt was actually surprisingly effective.
This reminded me of how much i miss that Japanese youtube channel that would make really legit knives out of things like milk or rice. You guys remember that? edit: found it. it's kiwami japan. has a fungus knife, egg knife, seaweed knife. so many weird knives
If you want to see videos of knives made of weird materials that are ONLY that material, google kiwami japan. They haven't posted in about 2 years, but their videos are crazy good and there are a lot, all with that premise. There is a fungus knife, seaweed knife, egg knife, etc
I hope they do worlds sharpest sand knife. There’s a Japanese RUclipsr I watched a few years ago and they did the sharpest grass knife and sharpest chocolate knife. It was really cool to see how they sharpened them and how sharp they actually got!
Daniel, please use lung and skin protection (gas mask and gloves) when working with resin. There are plenty of videos on youtube of what happens if you don't

never heard of the stuff before- wouldnt you want to clean up mold instead of spreading it around??? edit: *[disclaimer: this is a joke please dont e-crucify me]*
You could have made a 1 part water 3part dirt mix or something like that to make a almost dirt clay shaped it into the blade and then dried it some how instead of using epoxy with dirt in it
Please make yourself a sled for your tablesaw. Not only will it make some cuts super easy and fast, it's also safer, and you can make a video out of it.
Sifting the dirt before trying to compress it might have helped it stay together, you could also probably have tried a more clay-like dirt if that didn’t work
you can use a series of sieves to filter out only the finest particles of dirt and then make a blade using those which would remove the issue of the random rocks flaking off when sharpening it
It is mostly just a resin knife, with impurities. I don't really see much point in testing such absurd ideas anyway, unless you have a plan that may actually make it work.
Everyone missed the part where we can all clearly see the resin seperated from the dirt, so he took that off. The dirt part looks more like a rock. Everyone just enjoy what he did accomplish instead of trying to be disappointed in something he couldn't of avoided, which is the fact that pure dirt wont be a solid knife, so just enjoy the video.
5:30 It actually helps to move the saws fence back so the part you cut off doesn't tilt. If its possible with that saw that is. Regular circular saws can accelerate flying off parts to a speed where it comes akin to grenade sharpnel.
That’s a resing knife with dirt aesthetics and rock crumbleness. I honestly think you should make a new one without additives like resin or at least only use a relatively basic binder.
@@gabrielels7557he’s just over exaggerating it I’m sure, I’m sure he’s just saying that to point out a silly little detail and fun part of his childhood instead of his whole life story.
I think your suppose to have the work piece riding the fence not the off cut. also a sled would help alot when cutting long stock perpendicular to the fence, makes it so much less sketchy.
You know what... Technically they are classed as an knife. If you want to make the dirt knife better, you could try drying then finely grinding it. Then drying it again. Anyway, I hope you're proud of yourself, because I'm off to look at that one other knife guy that does silent videos and see if I can find chemists yapping about material science, so I can try to make a better dirt knife. :)
10/10 grass poem. use mold release and make a brick knife or a rubber knife or a book knife or a knife knife (a whole bunch of razor blades welded/epoxied together)
1:03 I'm amazed at your commitment and force of will. You're willing to eat dirt on camera, but showing feet is too much
Exactly.
I am a Venture main in Overwatch 2. Dirt tastes good, don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
Either, he has really uncomfortably beautiful feet (which turn people into monsters) or he has them so ugly that he physically doesn't want to see them while editing.
IDK
Make a knife out of pure super glue and compare different brands of super glue to see which is best 😅
Yesss

That sounds like it would take forever
Cyanoacrylate.... it should be easily moldable into a very hard sharp object.
ITS F*** RESIN

What does that mean and what is grass?

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately they're not materials scientists.
I still rewatch those when I’m having trouble falling asleep.
The OG! This channel is just that concept, but with less science, less weirdness, and more RUclipsr Energy, weird knock-off version for sure
This is what happens when kiwami Japan stops uploading

Plastic knife with bits of dirt
For real, that stuff is 90% epoxy resin.
Exactly, i rather he used cement or other binding material that requires very low ratio to work.
I feel scammed for my time even though i skipped to the end
Try making an actual dirt knife then??

WOW 26-30M views but still 1m subscribers? this guy deserves more subscribers..
Who remembers the "Kiwami Japan " channel, where he was making knife from every material??!!
Love seeing people work with resin with no gloves or respirator, respect the hustle.
Clay is a type of soil. Clay is also used to make pottery. Make a pottery knife. But you need to cut the knife out of a slab of pottery.
As someone who enjoys poems and also writes them, I very much enjoyed the grass poem. Good job.
you should make a 100% resin knife to compare the other ones against, to make sure the material actually contribute to the cutting ability at all
Hey, you need to use a little more mold release it makes things 100% easier

Table saw safety tip: Use the riving knife/splitter and blade guard!
You know that there's this revolutionary technology called a "sieve". Might have heard of it
You should have sifted the large rocks out of the dirt. Only use really fine grain dirt

I thought you were going to melt the dirt in a kiln and make a ceramic blade. Can you imagine how disappointed I now feel?

You’re probably right
The knife is mostly dirt. It's a good video, and I love you.
there's a guy who used to make knives out of silly things, I miss you random japanese guy.
You could've separated the clay from the dirt and make the knife out of that
soil is primarily made up of silt, lime, and clay I would focus on extracting clay from the dirt before molding to make a ceramic knife.
Dude I think the original dirt knife idea would have worked if you sifted the bigger chunks out
You should have screened the first to get it as fine as possible and then mixed in just enough resin to saturated the dirt

It actually helps to move the saws fence back so the part you cut off doesn't tilt.
If its possible with that saw that is.

Shocked you wore a mask a couple times, thank you for that.
Now make a knife out of carrot and cut dirt and grass with it.
Uhh if the dirt has enough clay in it you can wet it down, mold it, then vitrify it with a kiln
