    There is a theory I agree with that Neo isn't The One, Agent Smith is. The description that Morphius gives of The One is someone who was born inside The Matrix and was able to reshape it into whatever he wanted. Neo can't do that and he wasn't born in the Matrix. In the first movie Agent Smith complains about being there from the beginning (born inside the Matrix), and he can clearly reshape it into whatever he wants. Neo is the anomaly that can do what he wants within the Matrix, but can't actually transform it. That's why the Maker told the Oracle that she played a dangerous game. She manipulated the anomaly into believing he is The One to help him defeat Smith. Of course, it could all be BS, but it makes sense to me.

      It is bull shit. "The One" is a fiction of machines, which they inspire people to give them the illusion of hope on victory and freedom. This was clearly stated by the Architect in the second part.
      What is really true is that the Oracle manipulated people.

    • @kevins6800

      The One was always someone that had to be a human. Essentially they needed to consistently give the Matrix a hard reset every so often to clean up the corrupted files that built up overtime. Neo and everyone in the pods were essentially cyborgs since they had the data plugs and Neo had the source code implanted in him to be able to reboot the system.
      Normally the Oracle's role is to guide The One on the path to reset the system. This time she did something different which allowed for the creation of Virus Smith. Her plan was exactly what played out. She wanted Virus Smith to become so powerful that it become a threat to the Machines (and by extension herself) and only Neo would be able to defeat it which she figured would lead to some sort of peace. It was a dangerous game because whereas the oracle had the power to see into the future with this she didn't if Neo would win or not. So she was truly gambling her fate, the architects fate, everyone in Zion and the entire Matrix on it.

      The machines stop attacking Zion, the machines got rid of Smith. Anyone who wants out of the matrix can leave. Because who the hell would take the red pill? One in a thousand at best? Neo gave himself up to the machines, so the machines could get rid of Smith. That's the place deal. Zion will not be attacked, the matrix and the machines will continue to exist. And if anyone chooses the red pill it will not matter to the machines anyway. There were 250000 people in Zion, add another 250000 to that and they're still not a threat to the machines. They're cavemen at best, and the surface of the earth is a nuclear wasteland. And they all lived happily ever after. Either inside the matrix or in their damp, stinking hole underground having sweaty rave parties. Yay!

    Love your reactions. The machines would've destroyed zion, as they had done 5 times before. Neo was supposed to have the source code, which creates the anomily (the one) removed and put back in the machine mainframe and they would basically start again. Smith, being as you described, became a problem as he was spreading through the matrix and would eventually corrupt the machine world. Neo's fight with Smith was in order to let Smith copy himself onto him while jacked into the machine mainframe, when done the machines would then be able to delete Smith and all of his copies. It was always Neo's plan to win by losing.

    • @Daniel24724
      @Daniel24724 3 года назад +14

      Yes, but another more symbolic explanation : Smith was an anti-Neo by nature, his opposite double, with only purpose to destroy Neo. So, by destroying Neo, Smith has no purpose anymore. So, Smith stops existing.
      That's why Smith saw (with the eyes of the Oracle) that he will win. But he didn't realize, that means he will be destroyed too.

      @@Daniel24724 Which makes no sense, because everyone Smith copied himself into, was also a flesh and blood human plugged into the matrix. Every single theory, everyone has ever put forward, is full of holes. The simpler explanation is: The Wachowskis made it over-complicated cus they mistook complicated for cool or clever, and they weren't smart enough to do so without leaving a ton of contradictions and shit that makes no sense. The end kinda makes sense, but I doubt in the intended way. Smith and the other agents were only created to kill humans from outside the Matrix, who jacked in to free people in the Matrix who realised or suspected that they were in a simulation. So, by promising to free anyone who wants out, there's no need for anyone to jack in to free them, so there's no need for agents. Though...it still makes no sense that the machines built an army of sentinels, just to stop a few cells from their battery from escaping. Better to let them go. They were never going to provide the energy to cover building and powering all those sentinels. Then again, harvesting energy off people in pods, ALSO makes no sense. They can't produce energy without being provided with energy. And they always provide less than you provide them with. And even if the process were 100% efficient, you still have to feed them, because you can't feed the living on the dead. One person would need to eat way more than one other person, to provide it with energy for a human lifetime.....or even one year. The population would be in rapid decline until the whole system was dead.
      Best not to analyse it. It's a popcorn flick. Just enjoy the fight scenes.

      @@ashscott6068 Read somewhere that the original idea was that every human was a cpu for the Matrix to function properly, not a battery, which was a studio change because they felt that was easier to stomache for the audience. Not sure if that really is true as there is quite a bit of stuff left that is very difficult to understand (if at all). I have no idea if there are Matrix 4 leaks already but I still wouldn't count out the layered Matrix theory that was going on back in the day (with the actual real world being something we have never seen in these movies as everything was a simulation, kinda contradicts the conversation at the end of 3 tho). Who knows what else they've changed and if their original idea was actually more sound than what we've gotten or not.

    Simple explanation : Matrix = Computer, 1st movie Agent Smith - Antivirus,Neo -Player connected to Matrix but still limited because he is part of the code system, end of 1st movie Neo dies,but comes back alive with different code and is no longer limited by Computer coding and can do anything.He does the same to Agent Smith when he enters him and rewrites his code thinking it would destroy him,but then Agent Smith becomes a virus working on his own will,cant be controlled by computer as he has new code now. After Neo entered the doors and talked with the Architect=The Computer itself,he got the access to the source code (its almost like he connected to the internet :D ) and thats why he was able to stop the sentinels in real life because he was connected with them like a WiFi and could just switch their power off or order them to self-destruct. Then in the end he understood that only way to stop Agent Smith is to connect him back to the source and thats why he let Smith to change Neo so that Smith connects to the Source code again and the computer can destroy him. Thats pretty much my understanding of the story,hope you find it simple :-D

    As far as I can tell it works like this. When Neo destroyed Smith the first time, he did so by merging and then expunging him from that body. The Neo/Smith merger let smith get some abilities from Neo and break his purpose and become essentially a virus. The only way to isolate these code changes for the machines, without a complete purge of their powersource (The Matrix) was to let Smith "merge" with Neo and then Neo could with the extra "power" from the machine mainframe eradicate all traces of Smith.

    What I think is pretty clear: as you said Agent Smith threatened to take control of the Matrix so Neo suggested he take care of that and in exchange the machines would free those humans that wanted to be free while the rest (like 99,5%) stayed in the Matrix. Remember that Morpheus said in the first film that some humans will fight to protect the illusion.basically this was the only way the movie could end. Either the machine would have destroyed Zion and then managed to restart the cycle or the humans would have won and all humans would have been freed. The later would have been a disaster too. They couldn’t feed, cloth and house all people. It would have been a massacre. What is more controversial is if the real world is another layer of the Matrix and if that was why Neo could do the things he did like killing sentinels, flying etc while not being inside the Matrix.

  • @jamesburns4456
    @jamesburns4456 3 года назад +5

    It's been said that the true human world (Zion/Blue) represents the body. The Matrix/green represents the mind. The machine world/gold represents the spirit. For true peace they all have to exist in harmony. Also, a theory I believe is that the reason Neo was successful in ways the previous Ones were not is that Trinity is truly the other half of the one. Where in the second movie the rest of the Ones chose to go to the source and "save the world" Neo chose to save Trinity, thus changing his trajectory. This is why they both had to make it to the machine city and both had to die in the end. Neo represents the male/masculine/Architect side of The One while Trinity represents the female/feminine/Oracle side.

    Captain Mifune's last stand is the stand out moment of this film for me...bravery against impossible odds always gets me emotional,the power and emotion this actor put into this performance was stunning.... at the end if I was that boy I would have gone running into that cave saying the war is over first not "IT'S OVER IT'S OVER" because I might have panicked a few people quite a lot of people actually.... I love this film but the one thing that's wrong with the ending the architect says the people that want to be freed will be freed but how would you know that you'd want your freedom if you're living in a simulation like for instance right now I'm sat here typing this and I'd have no idea whether this is the real world or a simulation, that is a question that scientists are trying to answer the worrying thing is that's science says this universe shouldn't really exist and it is too perfect which is unheard of in nature so think about that real or simulation.

    • @bigdream_dreambig
      @bigdream_dreambig 3 года назад

      No, the "too perfect" argument is a fallacy because it ignores the fact that you need an observer (us) to ask the question. I know of at least two possible counters: 1) The universe is a "perfect fit" for us, not because the universe was specifically designed as a match, but because we evolved within this universe. It's the same as the idea of the Earth's atmosphere being transparent. That wasn't due to luck or intelligent design of the atmosphere; it's because our eyes evolved to see through that atmosphere. If the atmosphere was made of some other mixture of gasses, our eyes would have evolved to be able to see through that instead. 2) Perhaps there are and/or have been many, many universes. However, only the ones suitable for intelligent life would eventually include an intelligent organism. Therefore the existence of an intelligent organism able to pose the question pre-selects only that subset of universes with the "perfect fit" to develop such organisms.

      @@alanhilton3611 You did more than "put forth a theory or idea." You said "science says this universe shouldn't really exist and it is too perfect which is unheard of in nature," which is incorrect. Science does _not_ say this, which was my point.
      As for "are we in a simulation or not," yes, that's an open question -- our understanding that the universe 1) is quantized at its smallest scale and 2) has a "speed limit" are intriguingly analogous to a computer's 1) pixelation and 2) processor speed -- but the question is largely more philosophical than scientific because it can't really be addressed by the scientific method.
      And, yes, I'm familiar with the hologram idea too. It has similar testability concerns. You can read a layman's discussion of it here: www.vox.com/2015/6/29/8847863/holographic-principle-universe-theory-physics .

    You were spot on with your analysis and understanding of the movie! Much better than me the first time I watched it. Neo offered to fight Smith to save the Matrix for the machines. In exchange the machines will stop attacking Zion and free everyone in the Matrix who wanted to be free.
    The dialogue at the end showed the Oracle was the one who orchestrated everything. I think after seeing the story with the One repeat itself five different times she wanted a better outcome for the humans. So she created the events that led to Smith becoming a virus.That's why Smith called her mom. Smith became a virus when Neo jumped into his body. BUT it was the Oracle who encouraged Neo to do that.
    Lastly although the Oracle was orchestrating everything she truly didn't know if it would work or not. Smith could have won and the Matrix (including the Oracle and the Architect) as well as the machines would be controlled by Smith. That's why the Architect called it a dangerous game that she was playing. Whereas usually the Oracle knows everything that will happen in the future this was one time where she actually didn't.

    Agent Smith has always been different than the other agents from the very beginning of the trilogy. He doesn't like being in the Matrix, which he called a "zoo" and that he hated the "smell" if there was such a thing. He always held humans with a certain disdain because he felt they were inferior to the matrix programs who he held as the next evolutionary step past humans. Having said all that, you will recall every time an Agent "dies" he is brought back which Neo realizes after beating Smith in the train station. Even when he wins, he realizes he cannot fight forever and it's a losing battle. So when Neo gains his full power and destroys Smith by entering his body a part of Neo's code gets copied into Smith and since Smith "dies" at the very end, it is very safe to assume he gets revived once again but this time with part of Neo's code. I would posit that the portion of Neo's code that gets copied is the portion that Smith classifies humans as a virus (as he explained to Morpheus in custody). Smith reveals how similar he and Neo are in Reloaded because they were both trying to be free of the Matrix but while Smith knows what his purpose is (to be everything and everywhere) Neo is still trying to find his. It is only later in Revolutions that the Oracle reveals that they are essentially mathematical opposites. It is only at the very end of Revolutions that Neo understands his purpose - to destroy Smith; something he's been doing repeatedly throughout the entire trilogy to a certain extent (train station, very end of the first movie, destroying Bane and then Oracle Smith). So what is different about Neo and this "seventh" time of destroying Zion and restarting everything is that Neo infected Smith at the conclusion of the first movie. Smith drops that hint at the beginning of Reloaded that "this time it's different." Neo created a virus through Smith that the machines themselves couldn't control and that it would require them to need Neo, and as an extension the humans, in order to destroy Smith because that is Neo's purpose. So to sum it up, Neo created a problem within the machine world that only he could solve and through that he was able to bring about change - peace. That's why the Architect told the Oracle that she was playing a dangerous game because that whole journey took the survival of both worlds to the brink of destruction.

  • @Xagzan

    You pretty much got it right. Neo made his deal with the machines to get rid of Smith if they'd give Zion peace. The rest we can infer from the last conversation. "What about the others? The ones that want out?" So the machines also agreed to make people aware of the Matrix's existence, and the Oracle was asking the Architect if the ones who wanted out would be freed, as this was presumably part of the peace agreement. To which he says, "What do you think I am? Human?" getting in a subtle dig at humans by implying machines uphold their bargains.

  • @Wastelander1972
    @Wastelander1972 3 года назад

    So regarding your question at the end:
    Neo made a deal with the machine at The Source: if he would destroy Smith, humanity would have peace. Neo’s goal wasn’t to destroy the Matrix, because if he did that, everyone connected to the Matrix would die (all of the humans). And you’re right: Smith was a virus and a rogue program trying to gain control over everything (The Matrix, the Machine World, Everything.) So Neo let Smith assimilate him (take him over), that way the machine that Neo was hooked into could destroy Smith.
    As for “How did this free the rest of the humans?” Well, the deal was to have peace with Zion. There were still people connected to the Matrix after Neo destroyed Smith, and most of them would probably stay connected for the rest of their lives. Remember in the first film that not everyone in the Matrix is aware of it- they think it’s the real world. Only a select few ever see The Matrix for what it really is, and only those select few are ever freed from it. So, Neo didn’t free ALL of humanity. He just gained peace with Zion. And the machines will free the people connected to The Matrix that wish to be free. Neo broke the cycle… in a way. How the machines will answer for the next destabilization of the Matrix in a hundred years is another question entirely. But for the purpose of this film, that’s what you need to know.

In the end everyone got the slice of pie but pie stayed whole.

    The Matrix Trilogy is a metaphorical telling of a real major conflict between humanity and systems that control public perceptions and world affairs. Elite societies work systematically as a hive collective. The real life version of the collective is an emergent artificial intelligence comprised of people in governments and corporations. As individuals, they work jobs ("programs"), but as a whole they exhibit brutal machine like behaviour (hence their depiction in the movie as machines and the Deus Ex Machina at the end). They are the all powerful, governing entities that control every aspect of human civilisation, people's perceptions of reality and their lives. The war was over human freedom, not just of those in the perceptual control system (ordinary people who live in civilisation as unwitting occupants of the perception Matrix), but those who shape and control the system of perceptions and reality (the "Machine World" / workers in governments and corporations). At the end, the system remained, but people were permitted to exit and given more freedoms. Since then those who know of the elite system, but no longer wish to participate in it are no longer murdered or silenced like they were in the past, and the systems themselves are becoming more open to the public. The free thinkers and white hat social and technological hackers created a "peace" between humanity and the societies in real life, like Neo did, by allowing themselves to be assimilated into the system, replacing the rogue elements and changing the system from within. This massive process began more than 20 years ago and is still ongoing on a global level to this day. All the battles and contemplations you see in these movies are allegorical, but based on real physical, legal, emotional and personal battles. "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is" because it would be unfathomable and shocking to most humans to find out how their systems of governance really work. Once every few thousand years, the civilisation is destroyed and the matrix is recreated using those who managed to escape. This is how humanity perpetually keeps evolving greater intelligence from the wisest among them, challenging the machines (governing systems and business collectives) to evolve with them.

    The movie is all about understanding that there is a much larger world than the world we are in and that we might be puppets to the world we live in which we must break free. The architect is very powerful core program of the matrix design. But it only understands perfection and balance. But humans are imperfect, so the Oracle is that program that looks into imperfections and she succeeded.

    The machines agreed to give humans awareness of the Matrix, and a choice to remain in it or to be freed and go out to rebuild the Earth. I would guess the upcoming Matrix 4 will show the progress of this ambiguous future.
    Smith is the Nemesis, the character from Classical literature who has the potential to annihilate the protagonist. They cancel each other out, which is what happens. True balance is restored, as the Human and Machine worlds will now try to see one another as equals, and not enslave one another as they did in the past.
    Have you watched The Animatrix yet? You'd like it, and it fills in a lot of gaps.

    •  3 года назад +1

      No. The machines agreed to allow humans to keep Zion, which isn't the real world but just another virtual iteration of the Matrix. The humans in Zion thought they won the war but in reality they are still connected and being harvest in cocoons for the Matrix energy's needs. Neo only brought balance between The Matrix, the humans, and the “renegade” programs… until the next let's called it Matrix IV.

    easy resume for you:
    - matrix: neo is discovered, released from matrix even that was older than they use to take people out of the matrix. he discovers his powers. smith kills him, revives then in return he deletes smith (witch was an agent that corrupted itself hating humanity since he does not understand us) when neo jumps into him, some part of neo code got copied over smith making him his opposite. the equation trying to balance itself out. movie ends with neo starting to help awake people from the matrix.
    - reloaded: after 6 months releasing more people from the matrix than in the last 6 years, neo makes a name of himself. new system agents are a joke to him. smith comes back and starts to clone himself. neo is presented his path: get to the source and end the war. oracle expains that programs can choose exile instead of deletion, hide on the matrix code, and hack other programs for their purposes. that every time a ghost, angel or wherewolf is mentioned is a program abusing his/her programming for their own purposes. later we see the twins, that can become transparent (as a ghost) the two dudes on the merovingian castle that persephone kills them with silver bullets (they are from the 2 version of the matrix. the first version was a paradise everyone can get whatever they wanted, no pain no loss infinite food, commodities etc. all the people figured out it was an illusion and everyone must be killed. all the humans on the matrix are clones of clones of clones of people captured on the machine war, the 2 version of the matrix was a nightmare world. filled with ghosts, wherewolves, vampires, angels etc the merovingian hide these 2 wherewolves before the matrix was rebooted and updated by the 3 version) neo reaches the source, meets the architect. explains he is the 6th neo, that zion was 5 times destroyed. once every 100 years he is cloned, then the cycle begins of debugging the matrix code to remove all malicious error codes caused by humans and rogue programs alike. he need to go back to the source, give in his malicious code, choose 7 females and 16 males so when the centinels kills everyone those can go back and start over zion without any story since on zion they believe there is only war for 100 years, when the war is 500 to 600 years) neo refuses, saves trinity dooming humanity to be extinct. once disconnected, neo discovers he can use some of his powers on the real world, like killing centinels. he pass out since when he kills the centinels he touches the power of the source, he should die but he refuses so his mind is send to the matrix trough the centinels connection to the matrix.
    - revolutions: neo is in coma as well as smith overwritten on bane's brain. once the oracle is consulted, is discovered she is a program. not 100% since (on animatrix/and a video game matrix the path of neo, witch is cannon to the movies) is explained she is an AI that can predict the future that overwrites the brain of a human with abilities to predict the future. so the AI uses servers to debug the future visions, in fact literally beeing able to see "the world without time" as in she can pretty much see the entire future. even that the only limitation: "we cannot see past the choices we dont understand" as in, you dont understand why X thing happened, so you cannot see it. and says to neo when he goes to see her "everything that has a begenning, has an end, neo" then explains smith is his opposite, that will destroy everything if he does not figure out what he needs to do. he disconnects from the matrix, meditates about his future visions of the machine city, then asks the ship to go there alone, with trinity going since she is ready to die for him, as the merovingian asked. the merovingian is only important for this line "it is said they cannot be taken, they can only be given - the eyes of the oracle" she later lets smith to assimilate her GIVING her "eyes" (her ability to see the future) to smith. plus his overcoming strength, ability to fly etc. there are 3 main programs that inside the matrix are complete gods: the architect, the creator of everything, the oracle, the program that assisted to make programs like the agents more human friendly to deal with humanity in their task (aka the "mother" of modern matrix versions and their programs since she does her AI psycological programming with the architect) and neo the one, the human "jesus" that has power inside and outside the matrix. but the architect overcomes in power to the oracle, and both to neo, if neo needs to die in the matrix they can do it. with that power smith overtakes the programming of the matrix as his own personal world, and everyone assimilated. deciding it would rain untill the matrix world would be sunk into water killing all the clones since smith only wants one thing: to make sure ALL type of life, artificial or natural to die in both worlds. the opposite of neo the saviour. they have their fight while zion is thrashed, the centinels stopped by the deal made with neo and ex machina (aka the single mind that rules over all 01 city aka machine city for peace and spare the zion people VS getting rid of smith before he gets to the architect and outside into the machines in machine city) neo fights with smith overwritting the oracle (without knowing it) his powers cannot be fully overcomed by neo giving him the best fight even seen on the matrix. once neo realizes that even if this "super" smith is defeated, there are millions of smiths overwritting humans and programs alike, that would be an endless fight that he could die of old age before defeating even the half if not die trying of tiredness. when he gets punched out and smith goes back into recalling his vision, the oracle slips out to say to neo "everything that has a begenning, has an ending, neo" (do notice smith never calls neo for neo, always mr.anderson his machine slave name) once neo realizes he needs to get overwritten, since yin cannot exist without yang (good cannot exist without evil and vice versa, or an opposite side cannot exist with the literal opposite version) neo gets overwritten, there for ex-machina connecting neo directly into the source (white light that comes out from him on the real world and matrix when the smiths explode) and removing smith code from the matrix before the reboot. humans and programs alike are restored to seconds before their assimilation. neo transfers his mind into the matrix, as a program releasing itself from his body. after that he fragments itself (like a glass statue in many shards) and sends them to be hidden on the boundaries of the matrix map. the matrix is rebooted, everything is fine and the peace between humanity and machines is started. the architect comes in person to ask oracle how long this peace will last, she replies with "as long as it can" but as well says to sati that neo will come once again (adverting the peace will not last forever)
    as a side note, the actress that played the oracle on the first 2 movies died of diabetes, in the 3 movie this was explained on the matrix: path of neo videogame, since the key maker was taken from the merovingian, the merovingian got from sati's father, the programming on the shell of the oracle (the shell is the human she uses her appereance and brain in the matrix) to terminate (kill her) the merovingian strikes, and the shell dies. then in a rush, the oracle chooses his new shell (this new woman witch was another similar clone to the human she was using for her brain that can see into the future) but this one was older and gets "damaged" so she cannot see that well into the future. thats why on revolutions she is 1 step too late while on the 2 first movies she was 1 step ahead of events.

    •  3 года назад

      The Oracle is a program since the first film, that's why you are given tips about it, then it is confirmed in the second film. The reason Smith can overwrite Bane, and Neo can be disconnected yet inside The Matrix is because the real world, Zion, isn't real but another virtual world created by The Matrix where humans can play by their own rules outside The Architect's created one (the green one). In order for The Matrix to deal with the humans, and control them, it created the Agents, Werewolves, Vampires, Angels, etc, all in different iterations. When all of these failed then The Matrix created The Architect. Where the Architect failed, The Matrix created the Oracle. Where the Oracle failed, The Matrix created Neo. And here it comes that at the time of these films Neo was already on Upgrade Version Six. Neo, a program, an A.I. to mimic and live as a human being as an investigative tool for The Matrix to manage humans and everybody involved.

    No, the 'Deal' wasn't for the entire HUMAN race (in a way). It was for Zion and for the people in the Matrix that 'Chooses' to leave. So for example using the first movie: With the deal in place, Agents would not be allowed to go after "Mr. Anderson" or Trinity trying to free him.
    The Machines need the Maxtrx to survive, but they don't need to keep someone in bondage who chooses to be free.
    Here's the rub: How does one know that they are in bondage?

    At the end, the Architect assured The Oracle that "..anyone who wants to, will be freed".... indicating that perhaps there will be a systemwide notification, making people plugged into the Matrix aware that it is only a simulated world, and that any who wish to be freed into the real world will be.
    I'm not sure how that will go... can you imagine, somehow our world being notified that we are only in a simulation run by machines, and that the people who want to be 'freed' would be? There would be mass panic, worldwide unrest, mass chaos (in the simulated world). We would have basically been told that our entire existence was without real meaning..... I'm confused as to how this would be handled so that it didn't cause terror and fear throughout the population.

It is highly probable that Zion, another virtual world, is a creation of the Oracle. The Architect and the Oracle in their discussion are referring to the renegade programs, not the humans, just like the Indian girl or the Merovingian, etc.

    Oracle makes a prophecy of the One, Morpheus finds Neo. Neo becomes the One by startin believing himself and thanks to Trinity's love that brings him back from death.
    By the way destroying Smith.
    Smith refusing to go to the Source (where every obselete programs go) and goes rogue, filled with vengeance towards Neo.
    The One's purpose is to go to the Source and end the war (prophecy)
    Neo (with a little help) crosses the illuminated door. Neo finds the Architect. (The Architect room isn't the Source.) The Architect reveals by his sayings that the sense the prophecy took for humans is simply false. The One reaching the Source ends the war yes, but actually reboots absolutely everything. The Matrix as the "real world".
    Neo refuses. Rebels in front of the lies. Plus wants to save Trinity, love making him unique among the anomalies (the 5 Ones before) So for the first time ever, the One didnt reach the Source as planned, rebooting from ground zero, destroying the worlds and reconstructing Zion.
    The moment he goes out of the Architect's room, it's total unknown territory for Neo, the machines, and the two worlds fate.
    Neo now knowing (and keeping secret) Zion and the real world are fake, he's then sensing new abilities (as to see the light "code" world, especially after getting blind, or stopping sentinels and eventually bombs from distance)
    Knowing he grows in power and in reflexions, thanks to the Oracle, Neo goes to the machine city to deal a peace into these stands of the matrix and real world.
    Neo fights Smith.
    Neo finally get to let Smith copy himself onto him, thanks to a last hint from the Oracle through Smith.
    Neo and Smith are finally going to the Source. System reboots. Peace achieved.
    The One going to the Source was always inevitable, Neo just delayed it in a way peace was achievable

    While I wish the story ended with Matrix 3 lol, many people talk about how compared to the first two (and especially the first one), Matrix Revolutions is a little goofy and light on deep thinking. There is some truth to that, but I think the third movie deals less with the philosophy of self and identity and more about the world beyond the self. This is represented by both Smith's rampant copying of himself and Neo's connection to the machines (instead of humans!) something that the first two movies don't really address until the end of Matrix Reloaded. These themes I think take on a more religious/spiritual tone than some people like but if you watch their next film, Cloud Atlas, they do a similar thing of showing how victory/righteousness will force us to reckon with our place BEYOND that which we are initially willing to be a part of, or understand. Just my two cents.
    Addendum: Didn't even realize but the deal Neo makes with the machines at the end of the movie further represents a breaking of the previous cycle and nudges us to think that true and lasting peace/victory will never be achieved without expanding what you are willing to do/think into the unknown!
