That opening scene where Trinity freezes in the air while the camera pans around her was the first time that technology was used in a mainstream film. We'd never seen such a thing before and it blew everyone away, setting the tone for the rest of the movie.

you can also get that effect in many games, as it represents over loading your CPU or server location with to much going on. Normally this has no benefit to you, because the program is still moving faster while you are having the freeze on your end lol. I like to think what the movie is referring to as the slow down, is this overload happening . Though in the movie, it's in reverse to benefit the User vs the program. Remember them days you decided to bring 100000 ships, vs the Npc's 100000 ships. When the fire fight starts, on your end the game slows down to sometimes even locking up for a few seconds. When the dust clears the NPC has taken out a few of your ships right under your nose. = {That's the Matrix beating you with freeze combat lol} :)

@@ThisIsMyFullName That train is gone with the last disaster. You have to wait 10 years before they try to milk the franchise again. Anyway, as I said, the Matrix wasn't made by Wachowski, production changed a lot of their original ideas, it was made by a team, a culture, that doesn't exist anymore, we are living in a dark age now.
Yes, you could make small stories in that universe, even though Matrix 4 ruined it, but they will never feel like the Matrix.

This movie came out and people were like, "So sci-fi action movies can look cool and be smart and thought provoking?" It changed the game. Nah, people have known sci-fi could look cool and be thought provoking since Metropolis in the 1930s. The Matrix isn't even as intelligent as Terminator 2 from the early 90s, so didn't change the game in that sense, although it did make a lot of films adopt Kung Fu for fight scenes.

That wasn’t in the original prints of the film, it was added in the Blu Ray releases to match the grading of the other films, although the grading was corrected back to how it was in 1999 with the 4K UHD release in 2018.

@@andrewburgemeister6684 Incorrect. The green filtering was the original theatrical release it just wasn't as pronounced. They changed to the heavy green filter in the second movie to make it easier to follow what was happening in the matrix and the real world without needing all the scenes where they dial in and out and whatnot. They changed the original to fi that aesthetic but the green was always a thing. They just made the real world scenes extremely blue heavy to make them "pop" in comparison to the drab colors of the matrix scenes but the theme was always to lean toward green for the matrix and blue for the real world.

Yeah, I think the revolutionary effects work in this film kinda overshadowed just how generally-flawless it is all-round. It's up there with, like, "The Shawshank Redemption", "Aliens", and others in terms of movies that are essentially brilliant in nearly every single conceivable respect. It's certainly one of those films that you just don't get tired of watching.
I'm a little surprised that there aren't more revivals around it. Imagine a theatre hosting a re-showing, full of ardent fans, and tell me you wouldn't want to be in that room. Of course, I also think movie theatres in general are missing a big opportunity in using revivals to emphasize one of their major advantages over increasingly-sophisticated home-theatre set-ups; that sense of community and shared emotion only a mass live audience can bring. Movies are like concerts in that regard, and they really need to remind people of that, especially once Covid's over (if and when we ever get off our asses and make that happen).

An "Agent" on the other hand, that is something that has killed every single person that stood up against them. She might have never had to actually face an agent one on one, and that can be absolutely terrifying.

@@eklypse0 Yes, that's why I said fear was a psychological factor. She WAS afraid of getting caught by the Agent. BUT; this is NOTHING NEW to her. She's been in THIS situation before; with agents on her ass. That's how she KNEW to just GET UP and keep going. The agent won't wait for her to be ready. You are not wrong, bud. It's not that I'm arguing that point. I just think we are BOTH right.

Yes they can SEE neo and Morpheus while they're in the construct. there's a quick shot of them on a small monitor at Tank's station, but while in the matrix all they SEE is the green digital scrawl on a black background. But they can still somehow recognize what they're seeing. Well operators mostly, but you get the idea.

28:14 remember what morphe said in the agent training program. Anybody in The Matrix that's hooked up. Can potentially become an agent. The agent system controls the entire matrix. Squiddy The sentinel you saw earlier. That's where the agents come from. If anybody sees anyting strange or out of place, an agent of the system will hack they're constructs. Now going back to the scene. When cipher cough behind that wall and it alerted the guard. The system registered it hacked his construct program..... That's why the Matrix is so dangerous for those who are unplugged.

This is a deeply philosophical movie inspired by Simulacra and Simulation, Alice in Wonderland and the Allegory of the Cave. It also was the first action movie to look the way it does, it set the standard for the future because it was so much more captivating that anything else. Slow motion was pioneered heavily in this movie.

The idea of the Oracle comes from an ancient Greek story about a woman who lived thousands of years ago and could predict the future. She lived in a remote cave/rocky complex on an island in the Aegean sea. People would come from all over the world to see her and have her tell them the future. Every time she told the future it was preceded by a sweet smelling smoke that enveloped the area. It almost seemed as though the smoke was magical and was the thing that enabled the Oracle to see the future. In the movie "The Matrix", the Oracle always must "smoke", or light a cigarette. Whenever she has a lit cigarette in her hand, she can foretell the future.

The concept was very new as computers were not in every home quite yet. I was in my early 20's and had been around computers for a while. The internet was fairly new, so many people just didn't fully get this movie at the time, but it was insanely popular right away. It is old looking, but it aged well as far as the concept and just being an overall fun movie. Just saw you did Age of Ultron. Heading there now!

And today I don’t think it can ever be duplicated. No one who saw the film would dare say what it was about to those who hadn’t yet seen it. A truly spoiler free era, you had to see it for yourself. I’m honestly shocked you were able to go into it pretty much blind, over two decades later.

By kissing him, I think trinity was forcing his real body to breath. It's the body's natural survival mode. His mind was making him believe he was dead. When she cut off his air by kissing him, the body sent a survival mode signal to the brain to take a breath, which also sent the message that he's not really dead.
Once he took that breath, his matrix mind figured it out and his special coding kicked in. He got up and took control.
The Oracle knew that Trinity would be hesitant to act on her feelings until the appropriate time. So to most people it just seemed like a corny fairytale moment where he wakes from a kiss, but it was actually logical science.
Btw...Neo is an anagram for One, as in The One.

It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes.
