Walking style baits have been my favorite lure to fish for a long time. I fell in love with the original spook and super spook when I was a kid. Now I own walking baits from almost every brand. Recently one of my favorites to use is the Berkley Highjacker. I got on the plopper train late too but I enjoy the heck out of it. Every bait can be critiqued as a knockoff. I have several River2sea ploppers, several berkley choppos, and a revolver. The great thing about buying baits from different companies that are similar is typically I find small differences in how they retrieve and sit in the water. Ive fished a standard river2sea plopper and not gotten a sniff, then switched to a choppo that has a different profile and a lot more subtle "plop" and caught fish.

Great video! I agree with what you’re saying about the line choice it’s hard to pick but honestly I like a good quality mono for a popper better than braid. As long as you let them eat it and then lean into them good I don’t have any issues really. But at the same time I will throw it on braid as well if I have a rod with braid already on it that I need to throw it on. Kind of confusing I’m sure but really you just have to play with it to see what you prefer. A lot of new anglers use mono for everything to start and that will work fine for a popper.

I love your reaction to everyone’s “googan is knocking everyone off”, well every company knocks off every company. No rules against it unless you are Z-Man and have a patent on your chatterbait. But even then other companies make bladed jigs, some good some bad. But to be honest Berkeley knocked it off first with the choppo, and it is literally the same design, at least googan put their own twist to it making a someone original bait! Everyone knocked off the original rattle trap, everyone knocked off the original Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver, that’s what makes company keep going, everyone has their brands of choice, and that is how they compete! Always keeping it real B-Lat, much love from central Illinois.

I've been having a great time fishing "the hound" from your dawgs at Googan. Even caught a 40inch musky on it last week off the dock. 6'7" medium on 14lb mono, still managed to get it to shore and save my lure. Felt like I was fighting a tuna on that rig.

Hello Brian that Googan lure "The Revolver" I have never seen that brand or style of lure here in Australia...I would love to get my hands on one of them...Googan is not sold in my country...Also I watch your videos regularly as I like how you like to explain your style of boating and fishing...When I fish top waters I like to run braid with a monofilament leader attached..Generally I run braid for everything but change between flurocarbon and monofilament leader attached to the braid...Just recently I have started fishing flurocarbon lines straight through...Anyways as said by others I like your way of presentation with your videos and the fact you involve your family as inclusions...A local boating business located nearby me are looking at importing Falcon boats and while they won't be the top of the line models I will still get to see them in real time...You can buy most other brands in Australia but since Carl Jocumsen hopped into a Falcon it has stirred a bit of interest here in Australia. Personally I make bladed lures and jigs and my best mate makes timber crankbaits maybe you might want to do a lure swap one of ours for that Googan top water that you have in possession...best regards Brian Bochow Australia...

I have started using the Heddon's One Knocker Spook. It sounds different from the typical and the bass absolutely destroy it.
I have two setups that I use, one is a 6'6" Medium rod with 30lb braid that I like when I'm casting to specific targets or around boat docks. The other is a 7" MH with 15lb mono for open water.

I tie a loop knot on all my stick baits to give the bait more freedom to turn left to right on the pause. On my Poppers I take a dremel tool and trim about a 3/32 off the bottom lip them run a bead of super glue over the seam. This makes the bait a spitter more than a popper.
