Boss, you forgot to mention how to prime the oil pump before start up. New timing cover comes bone dry without a drop of oil in the pump gears.

Do you need to take out the engine to replace the timing comer or just the air intake?

would i need to change the oil pump gear to a stronger one when installing a large oil cooling system?

Hi any ideas for P0011 code when you already checked the solenoids and the sensors?

Are both the intake and exhaust cam shafts variable on the 2015 FA20 engine?

Are you having trouble maintaining oil pressure? Is that why the bearing spun or was it pounded. Also currently evaluating this motor.

How do you recommend cleaning the small metal particles from the oil pump and variable cam units if you have rod bearing failure ?
    Thank You

So you recommend replacing the OCVs when rebuilding motor? Especially after spun rod bearing? I had a ton of metal in my oil

if i want to change the oil pump, i have to change the all cover ? because i face this problem my engine have broken connecting rod and the technician told me you have to change the crank, bearings and the oil pump, the changing for oil pump to avoid the metal Remnants inside it ! so should i change it ? or i can keep it and clean it ?

Today I was replacing a stripped serpentine belt on a fa20 2.5 dohc engine that tore the crankshaft oil seal now not realizing I drove the dampener pulley oil pump sleeve key way into the crank gear cracking about 1 tooth or a 1/8 of the pass side gear off tomorrow tear down to see damage

Howsit bud what is your advice concerning the fa20 oil speaking would 10w40 be better

So is it worth upgrading the oil pump gear to a stronger one if and when you are in the engine rebuilding it anyways? I am planning on having my FA20 built and noticed Toda offers an upgraded stronger oil bump gear, is it worth the upgrade in a Turbo built motor application?

      this is debatable

Not sure, but after a lot of research it seems there are many tuners/builders that have different opinions or findings about this upgrade. From what I'm being told is that the oil pump gear is not worth upgrading and doesn't cause any change in pressure really and may actually cause more wear than necessary due to being a harder material in the gear itself. I am going to go with the advice of my tuner/builder and not do the pump upgrade, I trust his advice considering he has a pretty good track record with his work. My advice to you is go with advice from your engine builder. If you are doing the engine work yourself, then do as much research for yourself and talk to a few engine builders that have knowledge with the FA20DIT and get their advice or opinion. They will know a lot more than myself on this issue.

@@MRTPerformanceAustralia Although this video is 4 years old, companies here in the states have developed an upgraded Oil Pump Gear Kits from stock to oversized assemblies that must be machined into the front cover. There have been many cases (i.e. spun conrod bearings/thrown a rod) with turbocharged and supercharged BRZed's/Toyota 86's with catastrophic lubrication failure due to the low oil pressure that the OEM oil pump gear creates. I also wanted to know if you guys in Straya have been experiencing a high rate of failure as well.

This engine is shit. Spinning rod bearings every which way. Have had so many of these cars coming in with blown rods and engines. Never seen any other engines that have such a high ratio of failures. Garbage.

On the back side of the oil pump covers are they sealed with rtv or gasket?
