  • 2017 Toyota GR 86 with knocking noise from the engine area. In this video, I go over what is making the noise and what has caused it to happen. This is a mistake that can be easily overlooked.

    I think you just saved me so much time looking for my issues. I'm about to pull my 2013 FA20 out and this has scared me the past couple of days. Fingers crossed, I'll try to report back here in a comment. Thanks for this video.

      Hope you find your issue. Another issue these have is a ticking noise from the vacuum pump on automatic transmission models. The vacuum pump is mounted to the passenger cylender head.

      If it is the vacuum pump, it is not too hard, but if it is a cracked flex plate, that is harder.

    Does this noise come and go?

    Hello, I see the starter was bad but must it be removed on a manual? The auto procedure does say to remove. Is it necessary?

    • @shoptimewithdrew
      @shoptimewithdrew  4 месяца назад

      The bolts go through starter and bell housing and thread into the block. So bolts will need to be removed. You could possibly leave the wiring attached and move it out of the way, but I would just give yourself more room and remove it.

    I have had similar problems. We replaced engine on car then a month later we discovered that the flex plate completely cracked on us. A local mechanic replaced the flex plate but not even two months later it has done it again. Slight crack on the flex plate again from what I can see. It is scheduled to go back to another shop next week. Anything else I should tell mechanic besides what you have explained on your video? Thanks for the info

    • @shoptimewithdrew

      No, most of the time, it is from missing dowel pins.

  • @aneshsingh870

    Can this possibly apply to a 2017 Accord v6 as well? I kind of have a similar issue, more like a deeper kind of steady clatter noise that comes from where the transmission and engine meet. Noise goes away when vehicle is put into gear and only is heard in park or neutral. No codes, drivability or power issues, fluids are good and have been changed in transmission’m, but I’ve used a mechanics stethoscope to narrow it down to that area. Does not get any louder if you rev up the engine or even hear it at all when driving. Nothing is hear from the timing belt area and I only have 41k miles on the car. I have the video on my account if you would like to check it out.

    Are these engines really prone to issues? Or is it the usual lack of maintenance? I just bought a GT 86
